The Superman Look: Shaping Superman

Indeed do I. Alex Ross' Superman looks strong and like he can truly throw down.

I hate the little Iconic loop, get rid of it and it will be fine.

Does your hair grow when youre in stasis?

Regardless his hair in Returns was the same length as Chris' in Superman II

Holy Christopher Reeve moment Batman!
He has a handful of shots where he looks like Chris Reeve but this just screams Superman II (powerless portion) for some reason.

As Superman, let his hair be loose and messy; as Clark, give him some contrived, overdone, fussy hairdo that NORMAL guys (read: humans) would take some time to achieve. That would give people a bit of room for disbelief. Make Clark a really fussy, fastidious dresser and Superman the laid-back, relaxed one.

Supermans new haircut.....

Honestly, I would prefer Clark to wear his hair down.

Since this thread is about the haircut - someone debate me on the logic I'm about to present:

When Supes flies around and does all his superdeeds ... he does not have time to comb his hair and look neat and presentable. The iconic 'curl' is merely a stubborn forelock of hair that falls when he's active. Again, he doesn't stop to fix his hair in the heat of battle or during a rescue.

As Clark he needs to comb his hair back and keep that stubborn forelock off his face simply to keep the resemblence to his other identity from being obvious. As Clark he has the time to do that kind of grooming.

Therefore - Superman - toussled hair with the stubborn forelock (it definitely does not have to resemble an 'S' and would probably be better if it didn't. It should not, however, be stringy and look deliberate)- and Clark - neatly combed hair with the forelock pushed back. In fact, this may be why he occassionallty wears the hat.

who here agrees and who here thinks i'm nuts and who here thinks this is a dumb thread?

Have to say I dont actually hate that look of his hair like that if its trimmed down alot..

I'd like to see something like a more combed back look, that way when hes flying then stops, his hair will nearly still be in the same shape as it was when flying & there would be none of the self fixing hair stuff we got in SR :oldrazz:

For starters, the haircut needs sorting.

But most important of all is the flying take offs and landing scenes.

Superman Returns with all its cgi and technology advancements was a disgrace in terms of the flying take offs and landing scenes of Superman.

Compare any of the landings and take offs to Superman 3, and the entire crew of Superman Returns should have been embarrased.

I rewatched Superman 3, and was simply astounded at the quality of the way Superman takes off and flys into the air, all done in real time, and using Chris Reeve himself in all the scenes.

I would particularly point you to the landing scenes in the Chemical fire scenes,
the amazing take off when Superman goes out of the bar drunk.

Without a doubt, that flying take off when superman comes out of the bar and is totally drunk, is simply a work of art, and whoever arranged that needs an award!

The new Superman movie has to have similar or better landings and take offs.
We will not accept cheap cgi attempts that are so crap and boring.

The take offs in superman 3 are nothing short of incredible and look amazingly realistic.
Not only are they so gracefully done, they are mind boggling how they achieved them using no cgi. quite remarkable.

I just wish whoever takes charge of the flying scenes sits down and watches Superman 3 and Superman The movie before even attempting any of them.

There wasn't even one iconic flying or landing scene in Superman Returns, which is unforgivable to be honest.

Especially after the hard work of Chris Reeve into making the flying look so perfect.
shame on those people who call themselves film makers and cannot even give us acceptable flying scenes.

I don't see a difference.

I think the difference is pretty apparent, personally.

Some length has been taken from the sides.

i know a lot of people are complaining about the suit, but one of my biggest complaints about Supes's appearance is actually his haircut/hairstyle. he looks perfect as Clark, but i think we all agree that he looks a bit like SuperBOY instead of SuperMAN and i don't necessarily think it's his face that gives his boyish looks but his hair. i seriously think they need to give him a trim for the sequel...look how much of a difference a haircut can make...

WOW.

I still say if it is a Re-Boot, they should re-cast anyhow, BUT if they do go with ROuth or another actor like Cavil, Cudmore, _______?, then the hair needs to be more conservative in length. Short on the back and sides, bleded to longer on top, wavy if possible. Messy as Superman, and slick as clark.

Now all they have to do is color it black, switch the part (if possible) and unf*** the rest of the costume.

Interestingly to note that the hair cut just made his neck look 6" bigger around, and he looks more masculine with the short hair for sure.

The high neck line still hurts, but even so the haircut helps BIG TIME.

Here you go, you can talk about Superman's body all you want in this thread...

Okay, so I read the Welling-vs-Routh bodies debate in the Reintroduce Superman thread and here's the thing I don't get: why is it so crucial for Superman to have a huge build? His powers don't come from his muscles but from the Sun, and a guy who's built like a bodybuilder is going to have a hard time just receding into the background. I honestly had no problem with Routh's body in SR.

Thank you for posting in this thread though, it is much appreciated.

Routh's body is very long...that's why he stood out to me as Clark. Which is strange, because Reeve is taller (okay, by an inch). Maybe it is the clothing?

The one on the left looks better to me.

Fair enough. Can you be more specific on what elements you find better & what makes those elements good to you?.

Steve

Well I like the shade of the blue eyes on the left better; Has a nice rich vibrant color to it. Plus, the one on the right widened his neck in an odd way, but I do like how it shortened his hair in the back, but for the top of the hair, the left looks better to me. I do like the redone colors on the right as well.
