BvS The Superman Suit Thread - Part 2

I just had this thought about the black suit Superman wears during his dream/vision where Zod enters his mind and shows him the death and destruction that will occur. Since the vision was a nightmare scenario of death, could the fact that Superman's costume is black be a foreshadowing of his death? I mean the visual was him sinking into a pit of skulls, pretty obvious symbolism but I wonder if they chose the black suit as a nod to the suit Superman wore after resurrection in the Death of Superman. Taking that a step further, is there a possibility that they could use that black suit again in a future film if and when Superman dies during this new DC cinematic universe. Just a thought I had mostly because I love the black suit from that scene in Man of Steel.

You're definitely overthinking it.

I hope it's just the quality of the photo and the fact that it isn't an official shot from the movie but...It looks really...weird. Like, perhaps that's just one of the suits that are made for the action stuff like in MoS?

Maybe it'll be filtered out on-screen but the muscle shading on the suit just seems a little too obvious there.

I think it's overall pretty good, MOS suit and this are definitely two of the better renditions of musculature in a superhero costume. The muscle definition in the legs though is a little too intense. Overall I think it makes for an impressive look. Below is what I posted in another forum.

First thoughts

1. Wow, Snyder has cranked up the muscle definition all the way up to 11. Some people thought he would tone down on it after MOS and after looking at the official pick but no, this is Snyder we are talking about, this is definitely the most cut we have seen Superman in live action. The new look might be indicative of Cavill's new physique for BvS but its definitely different from MOS. The definition in the legs looks really intense and now finally Superman has a decent set of abs. The abs on the MOS suit were criticized for looking fake and they seem to have addressed that, these look more realistic. It also seems like they have upgraded him to an eight pack as compared to merely a six pack in MOS.

Some people will think its too much but I think it looks great, I have commented in other posts that I want Snyder to go all out and make BvS more comic-booky and this definitely looks like a step in that direction. Superman in the artwork basically looks like an anatomy chart and Snyder has brought that to life here with the help of Cavill.

2. I still don't like the new belt. I preferred the MOS version.

3. The blue is not only brighter but a new shade entirely, atleast that is how it looks to me. Looks like a more inky blue to me.

4. I think the Superman fans who were worried that Snyder, a lifelong Batman fan would undermine Superman in this movie should take heart - Snyder's actually given Superman a very intimidating and alpha look, making his musculature and physical strength very "in your face" and over-emphasized. This should serve him well while facing off with Batman who would be wary of Superman and maybe even a little scared!

5. I think this might be one of those "POSED" leaked shots like the infamous shirtless pics from MOS which were actually shot by official stills photographer Clay Enos to look like paparazzi shots and then "leaked" to the media. I think this is a very good shot, frontally shot and with good color and clarity. I think this might have been released because they are going to shoot out in the open soon and they don't want the first in action look at the suit to be ******.

You are really overthinking things. It was what it was, a simple nod to the black suit in the comics. Just like how the TDK trilogy Wayne Enterprises logo on the satellite was an easter egg nod to those films. The latter was not an indication that MoS was in the Nolanverse, nor is the blacksuit foreshadowing for some big secret death of Superman arc.

Yeah the abs are improved from last time although i'm still not a huge fan of very overt abs on the suit. There is always going to be an inherent falseness to them since abs never really show through fabric that closely.

I think at this point with the even more overt musculature on the MoS suit and with the released images of the batsuit that they're not trying to sell the suits like last time as "molds" of the actors real physiques. I know the last MoS suit was described by some as being exact replicas of cavill's physique which was debatable.

I'm sure Cavill and Afleck got in great shape for the film but it's obvious the costumes are not going to reflect their actual physique.

I'm not at all a trunks guy, but I made this super insanely quick pic just because the wrinkles in that area on that above picture lends itself to it. I'm totally happy without trunks, but this doesn't look terrible to me:

lov'in it. it looks good

I think the decal muscles on the legs are a bit too much myself. They gave him just the right amount of complimentary shading in MOS. In this candid photo its looking a little like The 90's Flash TV show.
Maybe it will look cooler in the finished shots. I was kind of hoping the sculpt shading was a thing of the past.

ya. me agree the legs are a bit too much. but we won't see the legs very much in the movie. so it won't be a problem.

That's why I said the definition in the legs is a bit too intense because I doubt Cavill's legs look that jacked. But the upper body I still think might be mostly him or a replica of his torso. He's been looking massive throughout the summer leading up to the shoot - much bigger in the chest which is what the suit looks like and even the abs this time seem correctly molded to replicate his own abs, last time it was like a random washboard stuck under his costume.

But "in movie" I do think that these costumes are supposed to be skin tight, specially for Superman for whom Snyder might be offering a nano-tech explanation.

wat do you mean?

EVERYONE! Don't forget we have this!
You know, what it will actually look like in film..

^^ Still more color than the MOS suit.

And it's not like the entire movie will be shot in rainy, cloudy weather at twilight. Also that's Gotham. Metro will be brighter and sunnier and will show us the true colors of the suit. :)

Yes but I was more so talking about the material/quality of the suit, not the colours. :yay:

Liking it overall, my only criticisms/nitpicks -

Looking at these two photos, I prefer the MoS S shield. It's size, its placement. The new one is smaller, and has that line going through it. The colours here arn't important since the first has been over saturated.

Secondly I hope on film the muscle highlights don't look too over the top. Cavill has such a great physique, I honestly think the suit would look better if the shape and contours of his muscles and body defined the large areas of blue, rather then spray painted muscle. Instead it kind of looks like a fan made job.

Again hopefully it doesn't pop out too much on film. Colour wise the suit is great, I wonder what Synders filters will do to it, since it was so hard to actually pin down what colour the original suit was :oldrazz:

Of course it will look fine on film. They must have tested it with whatever processes they ultimately intend to use. I can't imagine that the approach to this kind of thing is just to shoot the entire movie while hoping for the best.

I'm saying I hope it will look fine on film considering I'm not a fan of the 'added on' muscles. Maybe Synder loves that effect and it'll be really noticeable, which to him is fine.

Everybody worrying about the extra color definition for the muscles seems to be forgetting that nobody even noticed it in the promo pic of Cavill on the Gotham rooftop. Given the inclusion of Batman, the extra toning was likely necessary to bring out the muscles' contours in the night setting anyway.

The added on muscles is a bit distracting! But then I think Snyder is going for a specific look with a big muscular Batman in one corner and Superman in the other.

THANK yOU! That's why I posted the pic earlier.
