BvS The Superman Suit Thread - Part 2

I think it's overall pretty good, MOS suit and this are definitely two of the better renditions of musculature in a superhero costume. The muscle definition in the legs though is a little too intense. Overall I think it makes for an impressive look. Below is what I posted in another forum.

First thoughts

1. Wow, Snyder has cranked up the muscle definition all the way up to 11. Some people thought he would tone down on it after MOS and after looking at the official pick but no, this is Snyder we are talking about, this is definitely the most cut we have seen Superman in live action. The new look might be indicative of Cavill's new physique for BvS but its definitely different from MOS. The definition in the legs looks really intense and now finally Superman has a decent set of abs. The abs on the MOS suit were criticized for looking fake and they seem to have addressed that, these look more realistic. It also seems like they have upgraded him to an eight pack as compared to merely a six pack in MOS.

Some people will think its too much but I think it looks great, I have commented in other posts that I want Snyder to go all out and make BvS more comic-booky and this definitely looks like a step in that direction. Superman in the artwork basically looks like an anatomy chart and Snyder has brought that to life here with the help of Cavill.

2. I still don't like the new belt. I preferred the MOS version.

3. The blue is not only brighter but a new shade entirely, atleast that is how it looks to me. Looks like a more inky blue to me.

4. I think the Superman fans who were worried that Snyder, a lifelong Batman fan would undermine Superman in this movie should take heart - Snyder's actually given Superman a very intimidating and alpha look, making his musculature and physical strength very "in your face" and over-emphasized. This should serve him well while facing off with Batman who would be wary of Superman and maybe even a little scared!

5. I think this might be one of those "POSED" leaked shots like the infamous shirtless pics from MOS which were actually shot by official stills photographer Clay Enos to look like paparazzi shots and then "leaked" to the media. I think this is a very good shot, frontally shot and with good color and clarity. I think this might have been released because they are going to shoot out in the open soon and they don't want the first in action look at the suit to be ******.

The brighter colors on this tweaked MOS suit equal...

Liking it overall, my only criticisms/nitpicks -

Looking at these two photos, I prefer the MoS S shield. It's size, its placement. The new one is smaller, and has that line going through it. The colours here arn't important since the first has been over saturated.

I quite like the brighter colors, and some of the other spy pics (from different angles) tone down the jacked look... but overall, design wise, I prefer the MoS suit. I doubt I would have had much issue with the BvS suit had it been the original but none of the tweaks to BvS improve on the MoS suit. They're both good. And I understand it's a 'by a nose' sort of race here, but of the two the MoS suit is just that much better.

I kind of see Amber Heard as Kara - I know there are manips of this out there, but she has some acting chops (more Hollywood acting than Gal anyway) and the looks for it IMO. (sorry- I know this isn't the Supergirl thread, but just following the conversation...)

Amber-Heard.jpg
damn… I am seriously mesmerized by this girl. Please know that I am voting for her to be cast as Supergirl strictly because I want to stare at her… I know nothing else about her. Truth.

Shouldn't Kara be a teenager? Amber Heard couldn't exactly pull off passing for a teenager.

Haha she played one in Pineapple express and she was believable.

Though I still consider this new suit an improvement, I must say that now I'm starting to think that I liked the bigger "S" (yeah, feel free to laugh :woot:) from MOS suit better.

The ideal suit would be a combination of the too. The shield was bigger and bolder on the MOS suit and the belt/pipping was better, the muscle definition pops a lot more on the BvS suit and the colors are brighter.

As I said elsewhere, this is a very flatly lit image that is why the muscle definition seems so jarring, in a properly lit high resolution image, it will look much better.

The only thing that bugs me a bit is a smaller shield but it's still a decent size. I actually prefer this belt design as it seems like a part of the suit now rather than tacked on oval from MOS.

I don't think the musculature is really any more pronounced from MOS.
It's just the lighting. I think they "help" define the muscles more with shading so when its in motion it shows something. Prob washes out on film a bit.

Notice the legs in MOS..

looking forward to seeing more studio shots.

Why hasn't that full body Batman poster from ComiCon showed up anywhere?

I think you might be on to something there.

I might be in the minority but I prefer the darker colors, darker tone. Darker everything! Dark! Muted! Dark!

I'm with ya buddy, I loved the dark blue/almost greying colour of the suit. It gave it a very alien look to it instead of the usually blue. With that said, I'm fine with a bluer blue. I hope they keep the same red for the cape n S though!! The red was perfect!

I just don't get why i see so many members saying things like this about the new sups suit, the only reasoning i could come up with is that there are Batman fans merging with Sups fans in the same forum and not understanding what Superman is all about. Superman is a BRIGHT character, he stands for "Hope", he gets his energy from the brightest most powerful thing known to man, "the sun". Bright colors is what and who Superman is, i just don't get why some of you guys enjoy this darker side to such a Bright happy go lucky charismatic character? I 100% respect how you all feel, adds for good convos! Haha. I just feel the understanding of who Sups is and what he stands for is being misunderstood.

I typed this is another thread, but feel i should have put it here, so here are my thoughts on the new suit and Superman as a whole...

There are honestly no words that can explain how happy i am with the new suit!

My main issue with the MOS suit was the dim/dull colors, dim and dull is and never will be Superman. I had a hunch Snyder was going to brighten up the colors on this new suit due to an interview he did around a year or so ago. He said something to the effect of (now im paraphrasing here to the best of my memory) "The Superman i am making is not set on his true traditions yet, he is an Alien trying to find himself, he is in a dark place in his head, he is scared and you will see this in his character", Then Snyder went on to say "If im lucky enough to be able to continue on additional films in this franchise, my next Superman will be a much more traditional Superman, he will be a happier, a more charismatic Superman and will be much more grounded to the way of the people of Earth".

That interview was the first thing that popped in my head when seeing this gorgeous set pic, you can totally see from what Snyder was saying in that interview in this new suit! The brighter colors (happier, less depressing, you can feel the word "HOPE" in these colors), the less prominent Alien strips that line his ribs and waist, this suit gives a much less Alien feel and a much more traditional Superman feel to it! The wrist cuffs no longer look like snap on plastic, and the MUCH brighter gold square belt design looks like something that came from this planet and not from outterspace.

I showed my wife this set pic compared to a set pic from MOS, and her exact words were "Finally they got it right, NOW thats the Superman i know! Them colors in the last movie depressed me".

Extremely THRILLED with this new suit, massive props to Snyder, i can honestly say i like this suit better then the Reeves suit, which was my fav up until today.

I don't think the musculature is any different either other then it being a different design to Cavills evolved body, they look pretty much identical to me taking the lighting into account.

Also, comic con is so darn secretive, don't ever expect anything from that show to show up on the internet in its full glory. The second i heard the reports and details of the Sups v Bats trailer, i knew 100% us internet minions were never getting it. WB did the same thing with the Comic Con trailer that was shown of MOS in July 2012, they love playing these games with our heads, it keeps us talking, and it keeps us searching for fan Vids that were actually there! And when we do finally find the bootleg version of the Trailer, we can't help but wonder what it actually looked like in person, which then keeps us talking and wanting more!

Its all strategy on WB's part, and they play the game well.

When I watch MOS, I still don't think that the suit is darker than it should be. Although technically what's on screen is a dark color or even black at times, it just feels like the style of the cinematography. There are a lot of shots with the sun lighting Superman from behind like an eclipse for example. Other than one shot in Smallville where he's walking down the street, to me it always looks right.

My view of Sups has always been bright, happy, hopeful, charismatic, and charming! :D Maybe im just too traditional and do not care for "Too Much" change, but IMO the MOS suit was darker then what i would have liked, then on top of it Snyder goes and makes it even darker with a filter.

Yet again, i understand were Snyder was going with the first movie, it was/is meant to be a movie about an unwelcomed, somewhat depressed, confussed, some what feeling rejected, scared Alien who is trying to find himself on a Planet where he has to keep this huge secret from everyone and has to deal with all these demons in his head on "what is the right thing to do", he is immature and does not know yet.

Fact is, in that Snyder interview i spoke of a couple post up, Snyder let it be known why he did what he did and what he wants to do with the franchise in his next film. Totally obvious, he made a darker film because Sups was dark in his own mind.

But back to your quote... Im just happy with what i have been seeing lately on set, casting is a different story, but my mind is opened, none of us no the story yet, the story creates the characters, and the characters make the story, and thats where casting comes in.

I had never read this interview - that should make ANY superman fan feel much better about this next movie! I for one loved MoS, but would love to see Cav-El with the demeanor that Snyder described in that quote! I'm so excited for this film. I just hope I don't have too high of expectations :csad:

This.

That said, I think they may have changed the undersuit:

man-steel-fabric-update-warner-bros-studio-museum-visit-1395228_670825342927678_512348822_n.jpg-262052d1386376944

Doesn't seem the same as this, nor does the suit seem to have as much shine as the previous. Which, was all thanks to the undersuit and the quasi-perforation the top layer previously had.

It might just be the brighter, bolder colors balancing things out. Or, they may have altered it a bit to make the musculatre less sheeny, and focus a bit more on the shading factor.

Thank you for posting this. I've been wanting to but couldn't find the energy. The legs look exactly the same. This suit is darker and turned away from the sun and you can still see it. Besides that in the movie it wasn't noticeable at all. He looked great! I think the new one will look even better. And yeah! Where's the Comic-Con poster of bats??
