Do you think we'll ever hear the Superman theme in Smallville? There's a fixation on all things visual - the suit, the cape, the 'S', etc - but let's not forget that the John Williams score for the 1978 movie (which was subsequently used in all sequels, and also reworked for the 2006 Superman Returns) is a hugely recognisable piece of music which is as symbolic to Superman as his suit is.

I'm not sure of the legalities of it all, but I for one would have hairs standing on my neck if the Smallville series finale even had the first 20-30 secs of the theme, perhaps as Welling is ripping the shirt open.

We live in hope................

To me William's Superman theme is iconic and is irreplaceable, like the Star Wars main theme, Indiana Jones, James Bond's, etc.

I totally agree, I guess my question is do you think we'll ever hear it in Smallville?

There were a few notes of the theme on Season 9's last episode intro. I wouldn't mind hearing it on the final scene(s) of the final episode of Season 10. To me, it would be the perfect way to end the series.

It would be neat, but they probably won't be able to do it because of WB's bullcrap restrictions.

yeah, I heard a few similar notes in the season 9 finale intro. They will probably do their own with some of the classic theme mixed in.

Didn't Gough & Millar get into trouble for using the Williams theme? I don't think they are able to use it again.

I seem to remember hearing something similar. I loved when they used that Superman Main Theme leitmotif, as well as the Planet Krypton one, but clearly they have been developing their own heroic theme (which I think made it's debut at the end of "Commencement," as Clark threw the crystal). I wasn't so sure about it for a while, but after Salvation I'm finding myself warmed up to it considerably. I hope the composer is able to show it off in grand style several times this coming season.

Yes for a time they used the Williams score, but ultimately pressed their luck and overused it (albeit in a hybrid form). This caused them to lose access to it I believe---or at least Al/Miles have said they got in trouble for it.

But if you notice in Season 8 (maybe a little in 7/end of 6) they have come up with their own Superman theme. This is what you hear most of the time for Clark's rescues and what not. I actually think they have done a very good job of capturing that Superman spirit in it.

I'd like them to try and use it again in the series finale. Maybe have Lois taking off in the helicopter from the top of the Daily Planet or something and have something go wrong and the helicopter would almost fall. Then Clark would walk out and hear the commotion then he'd find somewhere to change real quick then a Metropolis pimp can compliment the new threads and he can take off with the theme hitting it's crescendo just as he catches Lois then he'd catch the helicopter and carry it back to the top of the building.

Smallville's Main Theme/Hero Theme/Superman Theme as heard at the end of "Commencement" (the video cuts it off, sadly, but you can still hear a good statement of it) --

More recently heard in the opening of "Salvation," --

the full theme probably not, due to legal reasons with music copyright and all that. But mark snow, and even currently louis ferbe do sample some of williams superman scores in episodes here and there.

I guess this question will be answered soon and it's looking like a yes!

We Could Here It At The End Where He Is Flying Over The Earth And Smiles If They Do That. Just A Thought. But Have It Here And There Throughout The Finale.

Say Jim Thats A Bad Outfit. Woo.

ya we will see as per peterson/souders tomorrow night towards the end. though personally i dont really see the need for sv to use it. Yes its iconic and yes its a great theme. But really sv has carved itself as its own identity and snow/ferbe musical scores have been just as great.

disagree, think the SV score is pretty weak (actually, I think it sucks, but it does the job, but just barely), just my opinion.

I'm thinking we'll be hearing the theme... why would it be legally complicated to use it in the show proper, but not in the previews for that show? If they're using it in the promos, there should be no problem using it in the finale.

if the themes are integrated subtly, as they were in Rosetta, then all should be good.

sorry: I find this post incredibly difficult to read because of the capitalization... and also, hear

I'm glad they are using it. I like several songs from the Smallville soundtrack. Like the one in Salvation, from the rooftop, when Clark outsmarts Zod by making him admit to killing his child. Or Clark dying on the operating table in Hidden. But the "Hero theme" they have on the end credits to the show is weak.

I agree. The Superman fanfare they've been using is fine, but if the end credits theme is the fully fleshed out version of it, it's not too great. It sounds more like a theme to some Amazing Stories type show.

I agree, but like Peterson said in one of his interviews, tomorrows finale isn't just an ending, it's a beginning. IMO, using the Williams theme when he becomes Superman is a great way to end the show.
