I'm devastated for the victims...

I mean it's just a movie, but I'm also saddened for Nolan and all the cast and crew.

The Dark Knight Rises will forever be associated with this. The movie deserved better.

Went to a midnight showing last night and it was such a wonderful, celebratory atmosphere- loud, enthusiastic applause at the end, a happy and satisfied crowd spilling out from the theaters. Those people in Aurora deserved the same simple, joyful experience.
The sadness overwhelms. It does now dominate my feelings about the film.

Great... now the guy is calling himself 'The Joker'.

Copycat killers are nothing new, and nothing new to my state either. When Columbine happened here both killers were highly influenced by the film "Natural Born Killers".

Does it mean the film make them kill those people? No, but it was the perfect combination of elements which is what I believe the case here.

People have been blaming music, video games, and movies/TV for year and years on why this stuff happens. Yet for every case like this one, how many people have went to see the Dark Knight multiple times and are perfect law abiding citizens?

It's just like alcohol. For most people they can have a few drinks and are fine. They can even have a few too many one time and get picked up for DUI, but they are not nessisarily alcoholics. It's the rare person with the right body chemistry that tries it, and it's a drink when they get up in the morning, the drink at work, the drink they take instead of going to work, the drink before they go to bed, etc., etc.

You know what? None of this matters, TDK could break the opening record, it could flop, it could make a trillion dollars, but 12 people have lost their lives, one of them a child of 6 who's whole life was ahead of them, no amount of money made this weekend is ever going to change that.

Yep. No offense to anybody else in this thread, but I can't bring myself to debate the film's box office at the moment. Hell, I can barely focus on talking about the film itself.

My belief is that people should not have to alter their lives and enjoyments due to one sick fvk.

My hope is that people who always intended to see this film and would get joy out of it should still go. Anything less and this bastard probably gets what he wanted.

Nolan's statement on the matter best encapsulates the view of movies and how they affect people in positive ways.

It's not important and it never will be, this tragedy could have stuck at any big midnight movie, Hunger Games, Avengers, Twilight, Harry Potter, whatever, as far as I'm concerned the box office debate is officially dead in light of this horrific event.

I agree box office debate is pretty insignificant right now but my last comment was more in response to some people out there who have actually advocated WB pulling the film out of respect.

Millions of people enjoy these films and give them a little happiness and distraction from the often troubling world why take that away? This is probably what that prick wanted.

The news about the shooting has been on the news every single hour all day long here.

I have to admit, when I went to the theater, I quickly glanced towards the doors whenever someone entered while the movie was playing.

Yeah, that I don't agree with, that's exactly the type of thing that should be avoided. If there was something in the film however that was similar to the incident in Colorado though I'd think differently.

That's how I feel too. Just too much sadness surrounding this film to discuss it right now.

Do you guys think he chose this nickname after he committed those killings to make himself look good, or he really picked TDKR as his target because he truly believes that he is Joker himself? Either way, he is a sick bastard and I hope he gets the maximum penalty.

If anything, I take it as a further insult to the audience.

The world doesn´t stop. Let´s talk about money:

1.5 billion worldwide?

A few years ago a 19 year old dressed as Ledger's Joker and burned down his former high school.

$1.5 billion worldwide was a pipe dream even before all this happened.

Humm...so this movie is doing better than the previous. What about the avengers?
