The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR General Discussion & Speculation Thread (NOT A LOUNGE) - - Part 57

Funny little paragraph:
"And US film giant Warner Bros has made it known that its latest Batman movie - The Dark Knight Rises by Christopher Nolan, starring Marion Cotillard - is finished, well ahead of its July 19 release date".

It says STARRING Marion Cotillard... True, she's in it, yes. But WHY are they naming her as the only one? Shouldn't it have said, Starring Christian Bale? lame.

Read a couple of paragraphs down.

i dont think they will screen it. you have to understand. TDKR is one of the 3 movies that will 100% make a big profit this year. they spend way to much time on NOT having leaks. spoiling the story 2 months before the movie comes out when you know that everyone wants to see it? if you screen the movie the story will come out. you can not prevent this

While I agree, you have to think about the potential Oscar push WB might want for this film, especially in the wake of the Knight Oscar controversy 4 years ago.

Deathly Hallows Part 2 didn't get anything and WB wanted that to get something badly. You don't think they might want the same and maybe even more so with Rises?

IF it is screened in May, could we expect early reviews???

They mention her to stress the possibility of TDKR showing up in Cannes (which I highly doubt) because it's a French film festival and Marion is French and a big star in France, that's why:whatever:

She's still ain't starring in it...

Depending on who went.

All this means is that WB's about to start the SERIOUS marketing push for Rises, whether it goes to Cannes or not...but I don't see why mentioning it in this article does them any favors at Cannes if it's definitely not going to be there.

for the oscar push you need the time from november 2012 to februar 2013 IMO. may 2012 will have no effect.

WB and Nolan spend a lot money on security on this production. and then the story is spoiler in the middle of may? if this will happen then i dont know what to say about Nolan.

There would be embargoes no doubt.

Knight's Oscar chances started on it's release day after everyone got a chance to look at it.

Traditionally, in the last 15 years, yes, the Oscar season starts in October. But, there are exceptions. The Sixth Sense is one of the them and that was released in July of '99.

With twitter, that almost means nothing now. Yeah, they couldn't do a full review abut 140 characters on twitter about Rises, if it actually was at Cannes, would do the work.

The only reason I see some validity in this is because of how early Nolan got started on the script of this film, in conjunction with the reports of him showing a cut to WB and the fact that it got it's rating so early.

I mean, they started thinking and shaping the outline of the story in October of '08. For argument's sake, they had been working on this script for nearly three years before they actually shot anything.

Nolan could've done all the hard work, which he normal does, in the script. That's where he really edits his films.

I too normally wouldn't put much weight into it but the fact the movie is nearly if not done already suggests it's not out of the realms of possibility of showing up in Cannes. It would be an absolutely massive show of confidence to premiere the film almost 2 months before hand.

fact is that TDKR is oen of the biggest movie of the last 3 years. everyone wants to see this movie. leaks would happen and you know it.

Cannes is known around the world. you dont go to cannes with TDKR and then ask them not to talk about the movie. Cannes is all about media attention and promotion for studios. if you go there and premiere the movie the story and reviews will leak.

we will not have a debate for 2 months if the story and reviews would leak right? again its TDKR.

if the studio wants to show the movie to known important people from hollywood they can have a private screening . thats how they do it. and then they will have 100% control .

but at Cannes?

Very cool news! I hope they take it there... to clean up the awards naturally :brucebat:

Yep and that's why I find it strange that the film is even mentioned in the article. You'd figured that WB would keep that film in the closet as long as possible...

you want TDKR to win awards even before you watched the movie. i understand being positive that a movie will be good before seeing it. but to win awards over movies that we also didnt watch?

interesting.

On the flip side, Cannes could catapult the film as the de-facto Oscar film to beat this year if it gets raves upon raves at Cannes.

It works both ways. That's the chance you take if you go to Cannes.

WB doesn't need Cannes at all but why even mention the film in the article?

It would kind of suck if story leaks started to happen because of this. I mean what's the point of being so secretive about almost everything in relation to this movies plot and then having all of that possibly spoiled because of an attempt to garner more accolades.

Then again TDKR being at Cannes would be pretty neat.

Are you kidding me? Cannes is one of if not the most prestigious movie festivals on the planet but is mostly for industry types who will more than likely be placed under and embargo. Or conversely, if it's well received they may let those reviews be published. Imagine how much bigger the hype will be if it's already scoring high 90's on RT 2 months before hand?

lol :whatever: I wasnt 100% serious.

Does not the individual have some responsibility in avoiding spoilers?

Of course but having them floating around usually means trouble more often than not.

Think how many trolls infest the internet. One might be reading an article that's completely irrelevant to TDKR to have some idiot troll spoil the entire movie in the comment section of said article.

if the story is reavelaed at cannes then fact is that no matter where you are you will find out about hte story. you will be in the misc movei section about twits, best endings, best comedy, mad max (Hardy is in this movie) and someoen will spoil it. ok lets make it more clear. if the story is spoiled at cannes FACT is that if you stay away from the batboards you will get spoiled in the celebrity, misc and community section. even if you stay away from SHH you will get spoiled on facebook, twitter.

If the ending somehow leaks, it will be all over the internet.

The only reason I'd like a Cannes screening is because I would like some early reviews.

Well, when is it ok then for the possibility of leaks to occur? A screening for press is going to take place at least 2-3 weeks before release date, we're just as likely to have leaks then as we are in late May. In fact chances are fewer people in Cannes would end up seeing the movie. So when is it ok to screen the movie?

Canne's doesn't have much of an effect on the Oscars though. In fact tons of people who win big awards in May are completely ignored in the winter. It's kind of crap.
