Right it had nothing to do with immortality, which is why Ra's used that exact word upon his return.
That was just a nod to the comics, because it was explained perfectly that he's not immortal when Bruce said, "or cheap parlor tricks to conceal your true identity". He's just showing off to Bruce that he tricked him, and he did.

Do you truly believe that Ra's is immortal and possesses supernatural abilities in these movies?

Just watched the trailer for the thousand time and I must say I keep getting more and more stunned by Wally's photography. Fantastic in both it's sense of depth and it's sharpness, very clean and with great clarity but without feeling sugar-coated at all.

Nolan referred to Bruce's only super power being his money too, so I'd expect it to factor into the eventual resolution. I still think to sell (pardon the pun) the concept of Bane amassing so many followers things would have to be extremely bad in Gotham before he arrived anyway though.

Yeah probably narrows in BB bad, a real class divide, where you have tons of families with 6 kids starving, and wealthy socialites throwing away good lobster because they can. It can't certainly help if they realise the one guy that tried to help them that they placed their trust and admiration on ended up being bad news anyway.

That falafel guy might be more important than we think. :funny:

I do find it quite poetic that Bruce can't do this without being batman, yet he also can't do it without being Bruce. He will have to fully embrace both, not getting lost in any one side.

Don't confuse my initial statement with what others have argued.

I never said he was immortal.

You said that Nolan "IGNORED" Ra's immortality mystique in these films, to which I wholly agree.

He played with the idea of immortality in Batman Begins with Ra's being taken for dead and then returning.

It may not be literal immortality (and I don't think it is) but it certainly is not ignoring the immortality factor from Ra's character. It was a nice nod, as you call it, that acknowledges it.

The idea of immortality in a world of grounded 'realism'.

Agreed. Also, it's apparent that Pfister took full advantage of the phenomenal shooting locations chosen for "Rises" to capture some amazing cinematography. Some prominent examples that come to mind from the footage released thus far include the incredibly tall columns at City Hall, the elegant ball room where Bruce and Selina slow dance, and the deep well + architecturally stunning staircases in the "prison camp". I'm dying to see more!

I actually think that Bane exposing the coverup will help Batman in the eyes of the public but cause a lot of problems for Gordon and the city government.

I can only imagine what Deakins will come up with in Skyfall.

My favorite shots were the darkly lit rooms and stairways where they "abduct" the rich.

In response to how Bane would facilitate a rebellion. The fact of the matter is, while there is seeming peacetime in Gotham, what Batman/Bruce doesn't understand is Gotham is now a police state and is not run BY the people. The people of Gotham know this. They see the rich getting richer. They see the poor getting poorer. The crack downs are swift, frequent, and to no fault.

The police rule Gotham City. This is a big deal because Bane is going to use this fact to manipulate the crowd to his side. Whatever desperate side of them that wants to rebel, he will explore.

I still think it would be really cool if bane is trying to make Gotham a city-state

FINALLY! I believe this is exactly what Bane is doing.

On another not, since we are on a big L.O.S. discussion. I'm confused by the whole situation...

The L.O.S., albeit of questionable morals and their own form of vigilante justice, of "Batman Begins" would never do the things that Bane is doing in TDKR. The L.O.S. wanted to eliminate crime just like Batman, only they didn't have convictions about killing them. Bane is letting prisoners roam free and executing innocent people. So, if this really is the L.O.S., then they have changed a lot in those eight years.

Is this a result of new leadership?

The LOS freed all the inmates to Arkham, so it's not outside of their norm to free crazy criminals.

That is true...but L.O.S. freed Arkham inmates and basically said... "Whatever happens, happens". It seems Bane and his men release prisoners from Blackgate and hand them automatic weapons as they walk out the door and train them like terrorists.

Also... committing mass murder?

Ras also talked about attacking the economics in Thomas Wayne's time.

It's been hypothesized that Bane usurps control of the League and has an entirely different objective of his own.

maybe he's making Gotham a city state so he can finally create peace through a iron fist

and maybe he is using the earthquake machine to literally separate Gotham from the rest of the country

I just noticed this while watching the trailer on a larger screen and the pic in Entertainment Weekly that Bruce Wayne has bits of gray hair on his temples, nice touch.

you JUST noticed? :yay: its been known for about a year and shown just about everywhere but ya, its definately a nice touch. Really cool to compare this Bruce to how he was in Begins, it just really shows how many years this trilogy actually spans. I know there's a massive amount of jumping through the years but we're getting 3 movies of Bruce from age 9 to 39ish. 30 years of the mans life summed up the best they can. That's 30 years of anger, sadness, guilt..just a very dark and flawed guy. Before age 9 he was probably the happiest kid and hopefully by the time he turns 40, the character can move on and be happy like he was when he was a child. Whether he dies or lives for another forty years..im sure he'll find peace. It's EPIC :woot:

I love his hair in this movie. Gives him alot of character methinks. Also, that backslick in the pic where he's dancing with Selina - you cant beat that :awesome:

"What are we doing here, Batman or Bateman?"

:word:

I liked Bruce's hair in Batman Begins. Especially when he's at the burnt manor with Alfred and Rachel. So boss!

He looked awesome in that scene. Best Bruce Wayne hairdo in live action ever.

I didn't think they'd go any longer than his TDK hair but it looks like they did in TDKR. :funny:
