An intersting thought. Just an observation. Deaths did result when Bruce set that fire. Just sayin'.

Someone must've gotten F'd up pretty badly and still lived. We could see some flashback of a younger, healthier Bane and Ducard/Al Ghul...and it'll all come down to daddy issues and revenge, Bane trying to prove once and for all that he's better than the rich and handsome Wayne, etc. :D

WHOA. Bane's mask breaks?? Just got on this thread. Where did the mask thing come from??

Right, I looked at the picture and didn't see a break in the mask. I also couln't find the pic of Bane possibly laying on the floor of city hall

I can dig it.

It was just a bit odd that Bruce adamantly refuses to execute the murderer, yet there are unconscious bodies strewn about when the "League" blows.

And they hug and make up at the end, calling eachother brother.

....Forgive me if this has been guessed elsewhere. I haven't seen it. I've watched the trailer many times, and really thought about the scope of this movie and the saga as a whole. I've also thought about Nolan and his whole philosophy with the saga and his films. It looks like this film is bringing things full circle, and is a direct sequel and bookend to Begins. I also thought of what the true meaning of the title could be, and the casting reports we've heard regarding Josh Pence and others. I also thought of Nolan's dialogue from the Prestige, regarding the Pledge, the Turn, and the Prestige. What if he tried that on a grand scale with probably his only trilogy ever?

All of these things could be neatly brought together and summed up, by answering : What if Bane is really R'as Al Ghul? Not the next dread pirate Roberts R'as Al Ghul, but really him, Ducard, Liam Neeson, the one we thought died? Is he not immortal? Aren't his methods supernatural? Why is Bruce back in a League of Shadows looking place? Why are they chanting "Rise?" is it from a Lazarus pit? Is the title referring to Batman or R'as? Why is Bane in so much pain, and his face and voice obscured? Is it because it's really R'as, in pain and deformed by his near death "resurrection" from the Lazarus pit?

Haha... In a way I think Bane would be more hate-able and scary if he in no way acknowledges Bruce's abilities. If he's just sort of disrespectful until he's defeated. Which leads to the "now I understand why you were chosen" moment.

If Bane is Ra's al Ghul, I'll never watch a Nolan film again

Why do you say that? Dont you think it would bring everything full circle and to a fitting conclusion?

What are your thoughts on the points/questions raised above?

In the Prestige, when Borden turned out to have a twin and Angier was electrically cloning himself in a very scifi way, that didn't turn you off to him forever did it?

Ra's being Bane is totally unnecessary. That's why I would ditch Nolan.

It might have if we saw them two movie chapters before already. :D

No thanks.

It undercuts Bane and its an unnecessary step to conclude the story. Things should always be moving forward. Bringing back Ra's al Ghul is taking a step back. The stakes have been raised and we as an audience expect something fresh and new.

Also most people probably still don't know who Ra's Al Ghul is, this wouldn't have the full effect of coming back. Bringing him back is fine to some degree but bringing him back as Bane is absolutely insulting to the audience.

For that he could have chose an original villain and revealed to be Ra's al Ghul reborn.

Rise doesn't equate to come back to life. It could literally me "get out of this hell hole" you also don't know if Bruce is referring to the chanting, there's no real indication that the chant is in the film's lore.

What are your thoughts on the points/questions raised above?

At the very best its simple. It's not looking at the whole picture, it fails to acknowledge Bruce/Batman or any of the lessons from BB and TDK, it comes off as rehash and uninspired shock value.

In the Prestige, when Borden turned out to have a twin and Angier was electrically cloning himself in a very scifi way, that didn't turn you off to him forever did it?

This isn't the Prestige. People aren't being cloned or coming back to life as younger versions of themselves.

Wait, someone thinks or suggested that Bane is Ras Al Guhl reincarnated? That's might be the dumbest things I've ever heard. Zero chance that happens.

If Bane turns out to be Ra's, then I will spin my totem and hope that I wake up.

For the record, I'm not convinced it WILL happen, I just thought it was an interesting idea given all the points above, as I'm trying to piece this movie together.

But I am curious why everyone reacts so strongly emotionally negative toward the idea.

Because, no offense to you, it is a terrible idea in terms of storytelling and narrative

It just runs contrary to the rules of the world that Batman has existed in since BB.

A multi billion dollar franchise does not an amateur hour make.

Well, it seems clear that R'as is brought up again (with the appearance of Josh Pence & Neeson) - it seems that everyone accepts the League of Shadows is present. Many also believe Cotillard is Talia, Liam's daughter.
So it seems clear that the themes and story will at least revisit Batman Begins and continue it in a major way.
I think everyone is rejecting it as a "back from the dead" thing, but I wasn't suggesting something magical.
As an alternative way of tying all this together, perhaps as suggested previously, Bane was someone burned when Bruce escaped the LOS, someone who resented Bruce being chosen?
That would still be a way to bring all if this full circle.

I still don't like that idea but its more plausible.

What irks me is that people don't seem to be able to acknowledge that Ra's Al Ghul is a character deeply related to Bruce in these films, whenever people bring him up it seems to only be about Bane. Ra's al Ghul trained Bruce Wayne and I think his place in the film will also be a lot about Wayne

So...realistic reincarnation then? :O

Wait is this actually Nolan? I thought it was Bale? It is Nolan isn't it? hahahahaha

Yes. And Ra's to a certain extent is another character in these films that allowed pain to define his life and the choices he made. He took a different route to Bruce, and he claimed to have dealt with that pain when talking to Bruce in BB but the fact of the matter is he is another example of a man driven to extremes as a result of a tragedy. If TDKR addresses the problem of how one allows pain to define themselves then this may be where the relation to the narrative lies.
