The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR General Discussion Thread - Part 127 (NO SPOILERS)

TDK and Prestige ahead of Inception for me, I find that the latter is hearder to watch over and over again.

I really like Inception, but I don't think I love it, like Nolan's other films. The ending is breathtaking though. With no words being spoken, and "Time" playing in the background. But at the end, the whole dream within and dream/limbo thing kind of dragged for me. It's weird cause I love TDK's third act, yet some people thought that was never ending. I'm also not big on how talky it was. I mean, I didn't expect Inception to have that much exposition, but it really did work in the film. So that's more of a personal gripe. Still a really solid piece of film making.

+ 2 more positive reviews :woot:

Rafer Guzman of Newsday - 3/4.
Joe Neumaier of New York Daily News - 4/4.

Insomnia is not an Indie film. But it's not a blockbuster either I guess.

Brad Wheeler of The Globe and Mail

Lol, I saw 'Roger Moore' and this instantly came to mind...

:hehe:

Just saw the daily news one. It's actually a 4/5. He gave TDK a 5/5. He doesn't go into enough detail for me either in terms of the shortcomings. He's a little more specific about the positives.

The Prestige is so amazing. And that fan trailer of TDKR with the three parts of a magic trick from the movie get me every time I see it.

1) Memento
2) Inception
3) TDK
4) BB
5) The Prestige
6) Following
7) Insomnia
8) Doodlebug

TDKR might end up in the top 3 somewhere.

Roger Ebert is giving The Dark Knight Rises 3/4 stars

"The Dark Knight Rises ultimately justifies its length (in fact, a good argument could be made for a longer cut) and the last 45 minutes is nothing short of spectacular."

Wow. Longer? That sounds good. I don't see it dragging for me personally anyways. I just love this world of Gotham that Nolan creates and the characters that inhabit it. After watching BB again last night, I really wish BB's third act was stretched out. Everything up until Ra's' reveal was perfection, IMO. and the subsequent reveal was pulled off with finesse. But everything after that felt rushed. Enjoyable, but not as evenly paced as TDK's finale would eventually be.

Wow, he gave the first two both 4/4. It's cool.

lol, the Daily News review mentions Ledger right in the first sentence. It's getting tiresome at this point.

I Would search myself, but I'm paranoid about spoilers.

So what's the quick rundown of positives/negatives?

There are a few tiny spoilers. He basically says Bane isn't the most compelling villain and that the first act is slightly confusing. Other than that, he enjoyed it.

If there's any positive to take away from this, it's that Ledger's Joker is still universally praised four years after-the-fact - which pretty much spits in the face of anyone who thought the critics got caught up in hyperbole when the film was initially released.

He gave us a villain for the ages, that's for sure.
