I think if tdkr had a 99 on RT some of u would still complain

I think people are just struggling due to the first wave of reviews being so overwhelmingly positive. There was little to no sign of any criticism.

Am I the only one here who thinks Bane looks better and more interesting than The Joker??????????

From what we know about Bane so far, he doesn't have that appeal that the average movie goer will gravitate towards.

I think Bane is more methodical and is the perfect match for Batman.

Whereas the Joker was more chaotic and his insanity really made him the ideal villian.

Yeah I think his biggest complains were Bane ("Bane is the least charismatic of the Batman villains") and the shortage of Batman time.
Less than Scarecrow? I find that incredibly hard to believe.

Ebert seems to really enjoy the action and performances, but misses the humor and more interesting villains of the first two films. He also felt that there was a little bit less Batman than he bargained for. He found the movie to remarkably grim and have a stellar second half. Overall, he thinks it serves as a successful conclusion. :woot:

Nolan's going completely the other way in this film. This is 100%, without a doubt, Bruce Wayne's film. That's stunning that he had the balls to go that route in this climatic finale.

A finale to Batman, with less Batman and more Bruce Wayne? I'm sorry but that's balls.

@Nick_Newman: The Dark Knight Rises: A film about heroism, resurrection, identity, and co-dependence. The one superhero film that works better

@Nick_Newman: thematically than narratively. (I have about eight million things to say right now.)

Ebert: The result, in Christopher Nolan's conclusion to his Batman trilogy, is an ambitious superhero movie with two surprises: It isn't very much fun, and it doesn't have very much Batman.

Damn :down

He did say it has a lot of Bruce though, which honestly is more important to me. The best hour of the first two movies is the beginning of BB before he ever puts on the Batsuit.
Yeah, but that was an origin movie. We already got passed that. I like my Batman movies to have as much Batman as possible.

Bane shouldn't be charasmatic and Batman shouldn't be "fun". Enjoyable yes but not really "fun".

Which is kind of weird, because there wasn't a whole lot of Batman in The Dark Knight either.

And the thing I like about Bane is that the filmmakers seem to understand that he's both a mental and physical threat to Batman. Even if they don't match wits at any point, Bane still has an intricate plan that he works out. Yes, the Joker is Batman's ultimate foil, but it's nice to go from the almost purely psychological threat to a physical threat.

Right now I just care about how the film works on its own. I'll think about how it compares to the first two a little while after. Honestly there's been a little bit too much commentary in terms of comparing it to TDK which is completely understandable and expected, but How it works as The Dark Knight Rises is what I really care about. I wonder how it'd do for some people on a re-watch.

And these are the weirdest "polarizing" reviews ever, because to me polarizing usually means love or hate. This is love or like. I mean the negative reviews aren't even that bad.

Am I the only one here who thinks Bane looks better and more interesting than The Joker??????????

Not better or worse, but perhaps more interesting in some ways. I look at it like this, the danger was upped for the people around Bruce with the Joker, but with Bane the danger is not only upped for the people in Gotham but Bruce himself. Bane doesn't look at Batman as his Ying to his yang, at least not like the Joker did. Joker had a man crush on Batman by the middle of the TDK, Bane is simply out for Batman's blood.

Yeah, but that was an origin movie. We already got passed that. I like my Batman movies to have as much Batman as possible.

Even with the growling voice? :oldrazz:

Apparently this is like a second origin story for Bruce because of two plot elements.

So all this masterpiece talk and standing ovations was blowing smoke.
The critics arent digging it. I will judge it myself.

But if the critics dont like it, do you still think it stands a chance to win oscars a la The Return of the King?

Ok the last string of feviews were positive, should RT raise TDKR to atleast %92 or something?

He did say it has a lot of Bruce though, which honestly is more important to me. The best hour of the first two movies is the beginning of BB before he ever puts on the Batsuit.

I think he felt something else could've been lessened for it to have more Batman. He mentioned the part about Bane being the least charismatic in connection to a sentence that Bane has the same screentime as Bruce and Batman.

This was always going to be Bruce dominated film, I personally have no problem with the lack of Batman. In fact, I'm pretty sure that I read one review that said this works brilliantly.

The lack of Batman is a punch in the gut, to say the least.

And honestly once I saw Bane was the villain of the film, I wasn't expecting as much Batman as TDK.
