Im feeling sour on this now. I dont like his writing and i dont think it's smart to have a comic book writer there to write a movie script.

Happy about Affleck, not so much about Johns.

Still, Affleck is an Oscar-winning writer and this Batman's characterization was constructed pre-Johns.

This is one of the biggest problems in Hollywood. People who haven´t done anything worth mentioning being responsible for very important projects. I mean, at least write a great movie before touching Batman.

To his credit: Johns was involved with the seminal masterpiece Green Lantern.

I mean, I do think it's good to have a comic book guy (thankfully not Goyer) on board to at least assist with story-building and world-building. It's not as if Johns is the sole screenwriter, but I'm glad someone with a deeper knowledge of the DC mythos than Affleck is involved in some capacity.

Since they'll be building on ideas, story concepts, and characterizations following BvS and JL 1/2, it's not as if Johns will be going into this with the freedom to "start from scratch" and create his very own version of Batman. If anything, he'll hopefully be able to help Affleck with creating and establishing more of Batman's supporting characters, villains, history, Gotham, etc.

If he's a consultant then fine, but writing the story/characters?

Well, yeah. Co-writing. Aside from being DC's Chief Creative Officer, he's done some great work on The Flash and Green Lantern, among other characters and on TV shows like The Flash (which has been solid). Do people believe he isn't a talented writer, period? Or do they not like the work he did on Batman Earth One?

It's fine if you didn't like his work on Batman when he was handling that specific comic run of the character (which was on out-of-continuity story anyway), but this isn't that, and that doesn't mean he doesn't possess the ability to assist in the writing of a good Batman story.

Is Johns really that bad? I don't think I've read one of his Batman stories.

I think it is because the only one he has is the Earth One graphic novels. I don't recall any other noteworthy Batman story.

The Flash: Rebirth series is one of my favorite Flash runs, which Johns wrote. He doesn't have much experience writing Batman, which is why it seems a lot of people are against him as a choice for this project. But then again, Jonathan Nolan didn't have experience writing Batman stories either. I'm willing to give Johns a chance here to see what he can bring to the table. Even if he hasn't been a prominent Batman writer for DC, we know he still has extensive knowledge of the character which can prove to be a valuable asset no matter which way you swing it.

And also, this Batman solo movie is literally like several years away. There's always the chance they might bring on another screenwriter to help out or even rewrite Affleck and Johns' screenplay if need, like how Terrio was brought on for BvS somewhat late in the game.

Apparently the solo Batman is only 3 years away. 4 max. Elmayimbe said November 2018, between the two Justice League movies. Which makes sense since Deadline or whoever it was said the movie would follow the events of Batman vs Superman and Justice League.

Ah I see. Well they never interested me so I've heard no feedback about them. He helped write Arkham Origins and Arkham Knight. Which is a bit of a puzzlement because Origins had by far the best story and characterizations of the the games. But AK's story was a mixed bag.

Johns is OK, I really do like his Batman Earth One though. I will say he is a writer that if tomorrow were to be erased I wouldn't care that much. There's plenty more out there I appreciate much more.

I just remembered Johns was on the special features for the Batman 1966 movie on DVD/Blu-Ray. He was on the 'Gotham's most wanted' featurette being one of several notable people talking about each of the four villains.

I love Johns. His modern work on Green Lantern and The Flash is fantastic, and I even liked Earth One. Anyway, since he will be a co/writer on The Batman, I think he is simply going to fill the void left by David Goyer. That means simply provide comic book knowledge to the director, help with the story and character backgrounds. I am fine with that.

Remember when Geoff Johns was the creative consultant for the Green Lantern movie? nuff said. :csad:

To be fair though, there were a LOT more problems with GL than Johns... basically every level of that movie was off.

I must say I am impressed with the new trailer. Snyder has clearly matured as a filmmaker. Gone is the overly CGI look that characterized all of his previous output, and the desaturation is healthily toned down. It actually resembles the epic scope and texture of the last two Nolan movies but with more comic book-ness.

Good for you Snyder.

Terrio's dialogue is a step beyond Goyer. The acting seems smooth. None of the stilted awkwardness I see from Snyder films.

The only thing I took exception to is the plasticky cgi shot of Batman evading Supes' laser. Which is a shame because it was the most comic booky scene of Batman on film yet.

That trailer was pure sex. Pure amazing. Great to see a Batman that seems to fight quickly and effortlessly, and Affleck's Batglare and voice is perfection beyond which I had hoped

I've only seen the Suicide Squad trailer. Which looked pretty good. The camcorder footage wasn't the greatest. Leto is channeling Ledger's Joker voice. Makes sense he'd take some inspiration from the best.

I'm surprised. I really thought he would have gone for a more Hamill-ish quality.

Just with a bit more bite.

The laugh sounds.....interesting.

Leto does sound a lot like Ledger at the end of the Suicide Squad trailer. Great delivery on the "really, really....bad" part. God, why does he have to have those grills and tattoos? lol.

BVS comic-con trailer looks amazing, but I still have this nagging feeling that I'm not going to be emotionally engaged in the film. Still epic as hell, though.

Heh, yeah, I would be beyond thrilled if those weren't there. His smile and eyes are great, and of course, it's Leto. He's a phenomenal actor, so he'll probably kill it, but I still can't get behind the look.

But I liked the trailer. I thought it was great. I'm totally excited for it.
