If you have seen both cuts, which one do you prefer more?
The Rogue cut. Not just because of Rogue, but the start of the movie with the future ( although just 2, 3 minutes longer) shows a bit more of how desperate and sad this future is and I noticed some extended scenes (maybe just for a few seconds) where we would get more reactions from the characters for what was happening on the screen.
I admit, I am all for Rogue, but there were a lot of other things that added more emotion to the Rogue Cut. I was sad that they did not include the dialogue of the future team in the beginning. It added more emotion and context of the whole situation!
I love how the Rogue Cut is more nostalgic for me. It just is.
Rogue Cut all the way.
After giving it a second watch, I'd say the Rogue Cut.
But I also think Singer made the right choice by cutting those scenes for the theatrical release. The Rogue Cut is really just for the fans.
Still love the theatrical, but I'm going to go with the Rogue Cut.
I thought the airport and the "all 3 networks, plus PBS" scenes wouldn't be in the Rogue Cut, but I was happy they were there.
I actually really liked the scene with Raven and Hank. I felt that something between the two of them was needed, and to me it didn't slow down the film, it even gave it a bit more momentum and motivation.
Of course, I'd wish for more out of the mansion escape, like Rogue having some altered powers due to experimenting. But it was alright.
The Quicksilver and Paris scenes were not touched AT ALL which made me very happy because they were perfect the way they were.
Of course I love the added future bits.
Wow 10 votes for the Rogue cut and still 0 vote for the theatherical cut!
The Rogue Cut, without a doubt.
I have seen the Rogue Cut also!!!
And i think i prefer it for multiple reasons.
1- It feels like a more complete film with little details. Even how the Sentinels located them in China!
2- Dialogue. Sunspot gets to talk!!! Blink also gets another line which was great! Bishop and Storm get more lines which is perfect. I love Storms line.
3- Rogue. Rogue's role, although short, makes this film complete. She is one of the most important XMen characters in the original trilogy. Glad she is back, her hair is perfect and the way she took Kitty's powers are awesome. Like a boss.
4- Scene between Beast and Mystique which i felt was needed in the theatrical cut.
5- Bobby!!! I feel like he gets soo much of a bigger part in the Rogue Cut. He gets many more lines and screentime! His death scene is also way more badass.
Seriously, I don't why they had to cut the dialogue of the future team just before they were gonna bring Wolverine back to the past. Storm's line was wonderful and wonderfully executed.
All the more reason to like the Rogue Cut!
And for some reason, they managed to limit Storm's screentime when it was already limited in the first place.... her death scene would have more impact to the audience (not that it didn't have any impact, it did) if they kept her long line.
I guess they just wanted to move forward to 1973 that quickly.
There was truth to that story that Storm's scenes were cut down. Sucks. They really didn't need to take out the extra lines of those characters. I haven't seen it but I already know I'll prefer the Rogue cut more. It's a shame because the extra time is devoted to more future scenes, which is what they movie really needed. But the focus was too much on the past. Which is fine it was their sequel after all. But they really could've kept those extra scenes in.
Right so I voted Rogue Cut, but after watching it again I think that the theatrical release is much tighter and flows a lot better. The Rogue Cut just has those extra things that fans really wanted to see.
I think for me, what it comes down to is that while the theatrical film is tighter, there is an incredible symmetry to the way Young Magneto and Old Magnetos scenes are cut together. I don't feel that the Rogue rescue slowed the film down and I liked the desperation of it all.
I personally think they only aspect that slowed the movie down is the scene between Mystique and Beast. I think even in the Rogue cut that scene should have been cut out. Everything else was great. I don't understand why they cut the rescue scene or the beginning of the movie.
I actually feel like the theatre cut is quite long and quiet in the middle and could really have been a little action. I always get bored before the showdown. so they the new cut really elevates this in my eyes.
And honestly I am here for the future scenes mostly. These are the X-Men. what happened in the past was never of so much interest for me personally because it barely had X-Men in it. And I am very disappointed that we never got a real Sentinel vs. mutant fight in the past. (besides Beast snorrrrrrrrrrr)...yes, I am a fanboy!
How come you lot have all seen it already? Are you all downloading from torrent sites?
It isn't released until July 13 in the UK (July 14 in the USA). My Blu-ray has only just been shipped by Amazon, presumably to arrive by the release date.
While not the physical copy, some digital services release early.
I love the theatrical cut but I have to say the Rogue cut wins out for me. The only slight negative is Iceman's death. I think it had a more emotional impact with its placing in the theatrical cut - during Mystique's fateful decision.
The Rogue rescue scene and the Beast & Mystique scene in the Rogue cut were both fantastic additions.
It already leaked.
I agree with what others have said as well - the extra few minutes of dialogue in the future scenes really helps, especially Storm's lines. It helps establish Storm and Bishop as the leaders of each of the teams.
based on reactions i am seeing most prefer rogue cut over theatical.
I'm gonna vote when I watch the film but based on the fact there is more future and obviously rogue I suspect I'll go with rogue
Yeah me too!
I watched it last night. I prefer the Rogue Cut.
I also think that, despite the extra footage:
1) Some of the dialogue in the extended future scene didn't quite work for me (but at least Bishop got more to say).
2) The pacing/flow still doesn't work for me at times earlier in the movie
3) The mission to free Rogue once again makes her the damsel in distress (also, Iceman would know those tunnels and doors without Xavier having to guide them, since they escaped down those tunnels in X2).
4) They really missed a trick in not making Rogue take the powers of the fallen mutants at the end; it would have been a perfect opportunity to make her more like what the fans want, and more like the comics
I don't know how could she have done that, when she was still holding Logan's consciousness.
In the existing story structure, there was no way she could have done that.
But I mean the film generally missed that perfect idea. To use that idea would mean reworking the film a lot.
It's weird that we are supposed to believe that Kitty held on to Logan (and that the others stayed outside) for the many, many days that the mission took in the past. Maybe it would be better to show that Kitty and Rogue swapped places from time to time?
