Hey I am new to thor as well in paticular the comics , I am interested in reading them to get a better understanding of the characters however I dont know where to start , I did look at this recommendation Thor Visionaries: Walter Simonson vol. 1 or Thor by J. Michael Straczynski vol. 1. . I am leaning more towards stracynski for the reason is he wrote the babylon 5 series which is a fantastic show .. really good storytelling and character development I recomend it to anyone . I also plan watch thor and loki blood brothers it was recomended to me as well because I want to understand the hatred loki has for thor however the ages of thunder may be what I am looking for because it tells how thor was banished according to vartha and it seems like a good starting point ...

However I am also intrested in the storyline in loki's bio where he tricks sygin into marrying him and how she helps loki through out the story in paticular when he chained to a rock.

If anyone can point me in the right direction , I would be greatful . Thanks !! , i know I am a total noob lol

Was "Thor: The Mighty Avenger" series any good??

Yes, it was very good. But keep in mind that it's basically an alternate universe version of Thor and all of his associated characters, not the version who's been in Marvel's mainstream comics since the '60s.

I can't believe so many people liked JMS run. I thought it was terrible, just like his butchery of Superman for the last year. I loved JMS on Supreme Power, but it seems like everything he touches turns to garbage. Siege was horrible, along with its connected arc Dark Reign it was even stupider than Civil War.

On to positives, Thor v1 #411 has a great fight between Juggernaut and Thor; and Thor #337 (and perhaps the one after that?) has Beta Ray Bill and is a great story, too.

JMS didn't write Siege or Dark Reign or Civil War...
I know, but he wrote the leader into it and I thought it was all of a piece in quality.

JMS, Morrison, Moore and Miller are all 90% miss for me. Some of their good stuff is great, but mostly it's just blech.

That's probably my favorite volume.
Actually from about the death of Odin in 44 to the end of volume 2 were what I liked the most of the run. Tho there are some nice stories through the run. Darkgods was pretty cool too.
I mean the volume starts off by killing Thor off! hahaha

Well not the original story, they give Thor a new "mortal host" because Destroyer mortally wounds Thor and Jake, they basically end up being merged to heal each other.
Avengers are in the first few issues as I recall standing by helpless as they watch Thor getting trashed by Destroyer.
