The top 11 memes of 2016

I've never heard/seen of "daaam Daniel" or "dat boi" (the frog on the tricycle)

nice to see Business Insider is posting about the things that really matter today

The Meme Stock Market is experiencing quite a boom these days

I recognized four of them.

Recognized 10/11 and had a few more pop into my head in anticipation.

I spend way too much damn time on Twitter.

A lot of these things are created by teenagers, I'm out of that category.

This is pretty damn hilarious. We have a major news outlet trying to cash in on and quantify memes which by their very nature rise and fall super fast. As another user pointed out most good memes hit oversaturation very quickly. By the time principals at a high school or other people that have no business in the meme game start doing them they are officially dead. That tends to be about 30-60 days into the life of a meme. They have things on this list that feel like years ago.

Such is the nature of the dank memes.

Damn Daniel came and went quite swiftly. Good thing too, because it annoyed the s*** out of me from minute one.

I recognize ALL of these. I hate myself.

I'm also offended by the lack of dank.

Imagine ever actually thinking the Harambe jokes were funny. *shudders*

Someday, someone is going to have to explain to that kid what it was all about...

I think Harambe jokes have reached the point that they're viewed as so old/unfunny that they've become all the funnier again. Never underestimate ironic humor.
