What do people overseas really think of Americans?

I'm curious about how people feel about us,particularly on this board. Do we fit into the stereotype? Have your experiences on this board changed your opinion? Are you guys ever offended when American shows poke fun at you and your culture?

Let it be known.

Yes, this board has changed my opinion of Americans greatly. As a Canadian I thought Americans were evil, dumb, fat asses.

:D

Why is everybody so resentful of us?
Honestly, the politicians are the problem.

I think a lot of it is jealousy that we are such a prosperous nation

They think we're arrogant bullies.

The Canadian dollar is slowly becoming the equivalent of the American dollar. Canadians still think you're evil, though.

I agree.

Americans tend to be rather arrogant, and I don't think it's just our politicians (actually it's more confined to one particular office of Government run by a spoiled rich brat). It is also us, I mean look at our culture. Calling Baseball the "World Series", attaching the words "freedom and justice" to all our heroes and war veterans despite the fact that really they were just the other side of the coin in their respective wars....we tend to think we are very "right" in this country.

Because we're the center of the universe, and everyone is quick to say we're the greatest country in the world in response to anyone that has an issue with us.

I really can't think of a better country.
I can think of a bunch I like, but none better.

The guests at Jerry Springer are ugly. And they dress like it was 80's/early 90's. Last year I was watching JS for the first time and I thought the episode was from 80's 'cause of how what they wore, and one dude had a mullet and ugly moustache, but the credits said 2003 and I was like "Wtf?". But I guess they only pick ugly people to that show.

One thing I don't like about you Americans is that you seem to be too damn patriotic. I hate all kinda patriotics. But you guys are the worst (or should I say best) in it.

The Hype seems to have some down-to-earth types too. That's good.

I'd probably agree with that statement. I mean I probably enjoy living in and do just fine in Japan, the UK, Canada, Australia, and a few other places. But there is no place that I can say I'd much rather live. There are probably some equals to the good old USA but nobody's hands down better. I'm proud to be an American (even if I have problems with the government from time to time) and there is no place I'd rather be. And despite a few issues, some dents and scrapes this is definetly a great country to live in. I mean hey no place is perfect.

I agreed with you up until that last point. That applies to pretty much every country,or at least the wealthy ones.

I've been to Europe and it's not the same, they might hate us, but they are not so arrogant about their own country....although France was pretty bad at times

I feel that most of the people from the World don't hate the American people in general. It is the politicians they hate! Because, of their policy to the rest of the world. Due to this, American people are taken as stereotypes of American politicians most of the times :down

Take for example, My country India.. We've been suffering terrorism in Kashmir for the past 20 years.. Been asking America to use its political power and get Pakistan to stop supporting terrorist groups. But America never bothered.. After 9/11 happened, America wanted Pakistan to help out, because of its strategic positioning with Afghanistan. Immediately America decided to become friends with Pakistan.. So whenever India tried to use military might to fight terrorists, we were asked to show restrain and this and that! Why?

Because, every nation is bothered only about its own interests.. When help is needed, everyone likes to play suckup.. When help is not needed, Just forget everything and leave until help is needed again

What Im trying to get to is, American foreign policy towards a lot of the developing and third world countries is so hypocritical. Maybe that's one reason why every one hate the American govt.

As in star wars,

Fear leads to Anger, Anger leads to hate, Hate leads to suffering!

Couldn't be more true!

Well you can't make everybody happy, obviously.
Everybody thinks they're entitled to our help.

That's because America always acts like they are the World Police.

Well if not help diplomatically, Atleast allow us to use our Army to fight the terrorists.. Stop telling other countries what to do with their own policies..

I completely see your point, I was just thinking about other examples

Sometimes I wish the human race never existed.. Planet earth would have been so much better off and peaceful without us :( :down

There is no harm in that..

But it should be done, without hurting other's interests!

Sadly, we don't live in a world of Gandhi's and Martin Luther King's anymore:down

Canada needs to remember who keeps their asses from being a 3rd world nation.

Out of all the countries in the world your lucky enough to be right next to us for protection.
