Valkyrie can f*** whomever she wants, too. Although Bryan J. L. Glass, who wrote the recent Valkyrie one-shot, had an interesting idea about Valkyrie, since she's actually Brunnhilde, of Wagner's ring cycle operas:

Glass will use Brunnhilde's operatic back-story and her views on love to help shape how he approached her current personality and to better clarify her previous one. "This is a character who in her Wagnerian opera origins is such a passionate woman consumed with love that it had her banished from Asgard. And yet, she's been now portrayed in so many incarnations as cold, loveless, aloof. I wanted to explore that as well," he said. "What is it about her personality that has had so many comic creators and characters within the Marvel Universe react as though that's the way she is. What I've explored is that she's a character that love is so powerful to her that she dislikes love and sex being, to her, trivialized. As for Sif, being a "shieldmaiden" doesn't mean anything. It's basically just a way of saying that she's a warrior. It has nothing to do with her sexuality and it doesn't make her a chaste priestess or anything like that. It just means she can and will kick your ass.

Nope. It's basically Asgardian for "lady asskicker." The Valkyries are closer to what you're talking about, since they all basically foreswear all of their previous commitments to serve Odin by spiriting the heroic dead up to Valhalla, but even they don't have to be celibate. That's more an Abrahamic religion thing.

Another good example of a shieldmaiden would be Aowyn from the Lord of the Rings. Not only did her loins burn for Aragorn, but she killed the Witch King.
