Which underrated comic book character or characters do you like, and why??

One that I really like is Spawn,I thought he was cool ever since I heard of him which was back in 1994.

I like Spawn because he looks cool, because of his abilities, and because he is a bad you know what.
For the people who don't what Spawn looks like:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Spawn_Classic.jpg

Spawn's abilities:Superhuman strength,
Superhuman speed,
Superhuman durability,
Superhuman endurance,
Immortality,
Flight,
Magical abilities,
Teleportation,
Shape-Shifting,
Resurrection,
Empathy,
Wears living symbiotic costume capable of evolving

Spawn's origin:He was once a CIA agent and a Lieutenant Colnel in the United States Marine Corps until he was killed by his boss because he witnessed his corruption, then he got stuck in hell and made a deal with a demon called Malebolgia.

Spawn was a cool character, It's a shame they never really had a good writer on the title. McFarland is just another artist who thinks his art work is all that matters and his comics will sell no matter what he writes. I lost interest in the title shortly after it came out.

I like Jack Kirby's Demon. It's a shame that there's no current ongoing title that features him. The character has an insane amount of potential...I don't even know where to start. I think that if DC would support this character, then many fans of the more popular, mainstream characters would want to check it out.

Yeah, fans of popular, mainstream characters tend to be solely interested in the popular, mainstream characters.

I've always liked Abe Sapien. I'm glad he's getting more attention now.

ben reilly's genius was completely underrated....

He kicked venom's ass for **** sake and invented impact webbing...

heck dude used to throw webbing together made out of toothpaste.

Kaine is also incredibly underrated., I always thought he'd be an interesting character to get the venom symbiote because he hated peter parker/ben reilly for being the real deal and the symbiote would have stopped his degenerative powers while being a close enough match to replicate the feelings it had towards parker.

I also think Iceman is underrated and needs some proper time to shine and kick ass on a global scale, bobby is easily one of the most powerful and versatile character in the whole marvel universe, it's a shame he's overlooked.

same goes for scorpion, he should be written in a decent manner and become the threat he was made to be.

Yeah that was weak...

considering gargan is like a private eye, he should be a spy working for both sides, gathering and stealing information from shield.

I'd quite like it if he found out what the super soldier formula for captain america is and used it to his advantage. I believe he should know a large majority of the nation's secrets and that ultimately gives him some sort of diplomatic immunity and he uses his shield contacts to try and take down spidey.

At the very least, he should have the ability to find out who spiderman is and 'bribe' him to not tell his folks (rather than trying to hurt them individually).

He should be a master of the subtle mind **** over a long period of time while maintaining his superior physical prowess....

I HATE how they've completley misused him...Infact he's teh reason i Joined the hype because I was writing a draft of spidey 2 with him included as evidence he'd be better than the inclusion of ock.

I have long wanted to see D C make more use of "The Global Guardians", "The New Guardians" and "The Power Company", interesting groups that have been shamefully underutilised !

The problem with utilizing underused groups is that they usually end up as cannon fodder in the next big event. And I believe that the Global Guardians have been mentioned. :o Careful what you wish for.

The Global Guardians will be appearing in Checkmate soon, according to the August solicitations.

I know, but I figured maybe st barbara hadn't been exposed to Jones yet and might be able to appreciate it as simply a (probably final) Global Guardians appearance.

"Checkmate" is not a comic that I have looked at in the past so I might check it out. From the tenor of some of the posts here it sounds as if you think that the "Global Guardians" will be killed off. I hope that that is not the case ! My preference would be to give them a mini series (say 4 to 6 issues) and , if it is a success, do it again next year. I also think that they, and other "foreign" characters could be utilised in supporting roles or in "The Brave and The Bold" from time to time. D C did a whole series of annuals a few years back that introduced new, non U S characters and they don't seem to have done anything with them since. I see them as more potential characters to be used in a title such as "The Brave and The Bold".

No, I don't think the Global Guardians will necessarily be killed off. I think Bruce Jones has a long record of writing really bad comics, so Checkmate probably won't be around for long. :o

Definitely not enough love out there for the Shadowpact :(.

No "underrated characters" thread is complete without mentioning Spider-Girl. It has that old school Spidey feel to it without being a completely derivative rehash. Unlike... Y'know... Other stuff. :o

And I have to agree with bored. Shadowpact is grossly underrated. Detective Chimp specially.

Although I do think that you're overplaying Mac's intelligence, you're still right about the fact that he should use his investigative skills more often. Even without the symbiote, Gargan still pretty much had stronger versions of Spider-Man's powers, like wallcrawling, agility, and superstrength. Admittedly, I haven't been keeping up with the character recently, so maybe they haven't been playing up the Venom aspect of the character as much as I think they've been, based on my skimming through the books on the shelves. Still, Mac should've been played as "Spider-Man's evil twin" long before Brock came and claimed the title (disregarding the fact that Eddie eventually broke free from that mold altogether and just turned into a big whiney alien blob).

He's in MCP right now, undoing some of the damage Nextwave did to him.
