Superman COULD do that. He has the power and the intelligence to strategize.

He wouldn't do that. Not on his first encounter with the Hulk. He'd face it head on, like he does with superficially similar threats. The question is, how long until he realizes that the longer the fight goes, the harder Hulk will get to defeat, and what shape Superman will be in when that happens. If he doesn't get it soon enough, he may not be able to utilize any quick finish maneuvers like that.

yeah, maybe not right away, but that make the whole "will he have enough as the fight goes on?" convo pointless. at some point if the hulk gets the upper hand he's going to go "oh ****, i'm getting my ass kicked, it's time to get serious" and blitz the **** out of him.

That's if the Hulk hasn't already beaten him badly enough that he can't do that. That's what I was saying. Clark's not the type of guy to go for the throat without trying every other avenue first. Not saying he'd lose, but the Hulk isn't a pushover either.
