The Wall Street Protests

There's a Wall Street protest?

I guess that answers your question.

It's amazing, really.

Phony grassroots Tea party protests sponsored by the Koch brothers and Fox News, almost endless coverage.

Asinine protests over a harmless community centre on Park 51, endless coverage.

An actual real grassroots protest outside Wall Street involving thousands and going on for over a week, you'd never know it was happening unless you check alternative news sources.

College students railing against "corporate greed". This is not news.

Entitled college students railing against "corporate greed". This is not news.

Entitled? How are they entitled?

The amount of debt the average college student has to live with has grown dramatically while the CEOs who ruined the economy continue to take home increasingly high bonuses while failing to create jobs.

I find the self-loathing that the middle and working class of America have to be very bizarre.

Fine, it's edited. I knew I should've went with "dumbass".

Still doesn't make it news.

I only heard something about it today after a lot of people were arrested. The media naturally are reluctant to report on it in any large way because it will affect their corporate masters.

Yes, I really do believe journalism and media reporting have fallen victim to corporate censorship.

really? it's mostly because the middle class have seen no real change from anyone in the past 15-20 years

and a protest by college students, whatever it may be, is not really news......

Well, look at how much the media have ignored Ron Paul. And how so far at every major GOP debate, the various media companies (MSNBC, CNN, Fox) all of them put Perry and Romney side by side, and put all of the focus on them.

It's very unsubtle manipulation.

it's because no one....not even his peers...take Ron Paul seriously

I still don't get your point. Why are they dumbasses?

My point is that if Godzilla attacks Tokyo every week, it stops being newsworthy.

And they're dumbasses because my words are expressions of my opinions and I feel that protesting is pretty dumb.

protesting with a purpose is fine and good and decent

but protesting because Wall Street is greedy? what's next.....protesting porn because it's dirty?

The CEOs didn't ruin the economy, the government did so these people are protesting the wrong people. I would say that I am surprised that the media hasn't covered it more (since I hadn't even heard of it), but I have no sympathy for the "average college student". THey aren't forced to go to school. Most choose college over working because they ARE entitled.

Hmmm. I'm sure Martin Luther King Jr and countless African Americans, women, and gays would disagree with you.

That's cool that they disagree. I still think it's pretty dumb most of the time, and rarely gets anything done. (Mostly because many protestors think that holding signs and chanting slogans are the furthest extent they should go to.)

I partially agree with Norm here...and now, more than ever there is this growing social divide between those who graduated college and those who did not

at least Im seeing it here in the northeast

Yes, THAT is dumb. But protesting in general is not. Expressing discontent and protesting those in power is how we as a country began, and through protesting, many things have changed and improved.

agreed....wanna protest....go DO SOMETHING....don't just stand there with a sign....

No. Fighting is how we began. Just expressing your discontent is meaningless unless you actually do something.

Expressing discontent and challenging the status quo are good things.

Protesting's biggest purpose is entertainment. It's more fun than drafting legislation and less frustrating than losing elections. But that's all it is - fun. Protesting doesn't change things. If a movement is successful, it makes for nice photos, but Civil Rights wasn't the product of marches and signs.

This whole post is just wrong. So wrong. Corporations and their CEOs actions caused the economy to tank, but that's not to say the government didn't help the matter.

And no, most college students choose to go to school TO work. Because the career they choose you must have a degree for, it's not something you can learn from a store manager in the morning. Do you really think most college students choose to be over 60,000 in debt so they can get out of working for a few years (never mind the fact that most work through college as well)? I'm sorry but that logic you have screams of resentment and ignorance.

who says you're going to end up in the field you CHOOSE.....nothing

My cousin has a degree from Vassar....and he's working in a Verizon call center doing tech support

I, on the other hand, did not go to college and am working for a heating oil company....and making about 30 percent more than him....and he's been there longer
