Bently has been tapped to play villian Blackheart. I don't know a whole lot about GR, so I'm not familar with Blackheart. At any rate it's good to see bently getting some work, cause the guy''s a good actor. I do have reservations about GR, because of Johnson, but Bently's perfomance should be solid.

im not big on GR but i know BH is uh....not Wes Bentley..thats for sure.

unless hes just doing the voice, but if they make BH look just...human...then BOOOOOOO.

yup...we were just talking about it in the GR Official Hype thread...
Blackheart is the son of Mephisto and wants to kill his father so that he can take over Hell. Mephisto meanwhile "hires" Blaze to become GR in order to hunt down and kill his own son. not exactly as it was in the comics but to get a good idea read "Hearts of Darkness"...its a one shot comic w/ Wolverine, Punisher, and GR vs Blackheart.
BH is rather interesting....he is a bit nuts, uber powerfull, and feels that he will be doing mankind a great favor by killing his father.

Dude...i wouldnt worry.....as ive mentioned several times before both BH and Mephisto will probably be shown as having human forms in parts of the film. BH will change into his demon form when he has to fight GR or when he has to cause some heavy destruction.

thats what i figure too.

im just dreading the possibility of him being human for the whole thing. or anything less than his big black tendril-headed bad self.

im sure MSJ will do us right though.

I don't mind him being human for most of the film, not for a second... and I have faith that Wes can do a really great Job (I love American Beauty so much... and that being an ensemble movie, you can't take away his performance which was no less than perfect) BUT I do want to see the demon in him.

You cannot put Ghost Rider with all his supernatual powers on screen with some human and make us believe that they are equal power. He has to change... in what way, I do not know. I seem's his look was already taken by the LOTR people when they created the Uruk-Hai. Very similar in appearance.

about Wes joinin' the cast...

Bentley joins Cage in seeing 'Ghost'

Wes Bentley has signed on to play the bad guy in Columbia Pictures' upcoming Nicolas Cage starrer, "Ghost Rider." Bentley will play Black Heart in the Marvel Comics adaptation. The film stars Cage in the title role. He plays a former motorcycle stuntman who agrees to let his body become host to a vengeful spirit, Ghost Rider, a bike-riding demon, to secure the safety of his true love. Mark Steven Johnson is directing. Shane Salerno wrote the original draft of the Columbia project. Marvel Entertainment's Avi Arad and Crystal Sky's Steven Paul are producing the project with Johnson's producing partner Gary Foster and Michael De Luca. "Ghost" previously was set up at Dimension Films, with David S. Goyer attached to direct. Matt Tolmach, the studio's co-president of production, is overseeing the project. Bentley, who most recently appeared in "The Four Feathers," is repped by WMA. (Liza Foreman)

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Wes Bentley (news) has signed on to play the bad guy opposite Nicolas Cage (news) in the Marvel Comics adaptation "Ghost Rider."

Bentley will play Black Heart. Mark Steven Johnson ("Daredevil") is directing.

"Ghost" previously was set up at Dimension Films, with "Blade" veteran David S. Goyer attached to direct. Bentley most recently appeared in the 2002 release "The Four Feathers." His breakthrough role was as a disturbed neighbor in 1999's "American Beauty."

I agree with the general consensus on here that he is a good choice and it will be interesting to see him manipulating things in human form and then fighting GR in demon form, should make for a great combination of storytelling and action:up:

Say what you want about MSJ, he certainly brings together interesting casts.

They're wasting Bently on this movie for that part? WTF.

He should have either been Spider-Man or now he should play a young magneto in the Mags spinoff.

No offence but i doesn't sound like you know much about GR if you think the character is a waste of his time.He will spend a large portion of the movie playing mephisto in human form, which will be a sly manipulative part which will be great stuff for an actor to get his teeth into, the demon part will probably be either CGI or a big guy in prosthetics

I agree, especially on Spidey, and not taking away from tobey, but i would have liked Wes a lot more. I'm sure i'm right, but i remember reading that Bently didn't want to do a superhero film when the Spiderman casting was going on, and all that blah, blah, blah stuff that actors go on about when they think they are special cause critics and the media has made a big deal about them. Bently was supposed to be the next big thing, but the last thing he's been in was four Feathers, which was 2 years ago, and just an ok movie. I'm not saying that Bently was full of himself, cause i'm not sure, but I guess after a bulk of time with no work, it changes your mind.

I hope Blackheart is a costume ala the Predator (with small sets to make him look huge) rather than Wes Bentley occasionally turning into a CGI Blackheart. Although we all know what the likely outcome is....:(

I also hope Blackheart has an awesome voice similar to the one he had in Capcom's Marvel Superheroes. "Blackheart reigns!"

MSJ had metioned that for the film both cgi and prosthetics would be used. dont know if that applies to Blackheart but it may. it would only be logical that if they wanted to make GR as real as possible they would have to do the same for the villains if they wanted people to take the film seriously.

I'm really happy with Wes Bentley. :) I'm glad Mark Steven Johnson has given him the oppurtunity to shine in a big film again after such a long break. If you haven't seen American Beauty i suggest you go rent it asap!

I wonder whos doing the prosthetics/make-up etc?

Ha, I thought Bently was a 'serious actor' who was 'too good' for comic book films. :o

I guess that he might have changed his mind once the credibility in comic films went up

When did he say that? I can't picture anyone saying that they are 'too good' to do something. That seems like a career ender to me.

Can anyone post a pic of Blackheart? My memory is bad. :(
