This sounds pretty cool!
Also, I like the Police approach a bit more. If he's Japanese Police he must know Yoshinkan Aikido! :badass:

Capcom's Yakuza
New Japanese game shares a bit in common with Sega's gangster game.

November 15, 2006 - Sega's Yakuza may not have been the international success that many had been expecting, but it's already started to spawn some apparent clones. The latest issue of Famitsu contains first details on Capcom's Shinjuku no Ookami for the PS2. The name translates to English as "The Wolf of Shinjuku."

Wolf shares quite a bit in common with Yakuza, although it seems that for every similarity, there's an important difference. Yakuza takes place in a fictional recreation of Shinjuku's seedy Kabukicho district. Wolf of Shinjuku takes place in a replica of the real Shinjuku, which should be recognizable to anyone who's visited the region.

Cool main characters with suitably cool nicknames are selling points for both titles. Yakuza's Kazuma is known as the dragon of Tokyo. Wolf of Shinjuku's main character is Eiji Mikami, and he's known as the Lone Wolf. Mikami is a 35 year old detective who lost his son three years back and, due to complications resulting from that, is now separated from his wife.

Both games seem to offer a variety of gameplay options in a large, fully explorable world. Like Yakuza, Wolf has a real time fighting system, although specifics haven't been revealed yet. Both games also have mini games, with Wolf promising pachinko, batting practice, mahjong and others.

The structure of Wolf of Shinjuku appears to be mission based, which would separate it from the Sega title. You have access to the police's crime database, allowing you to learn what kind of crimes have taken place -- anything from drunks fighting it out to more serious homicides. From there, you're free to head out on the town to investigate.

The fact that Mikami is a police officer instead of a gangster adds some unique to the game. In addition to investigating crime out on the street, part of your work as a detective requires that you question suspects back at the precinct. As you speak with people using an interactive dialogue system that gives you a variety of question choices, you have access to a heart rate meter for your target, so you can determine when lies are being told.

Wolf also differs from Yakuza in that it's cell shaded rather than real shaded. The artwork was done by Ittoku of Magic the Gathering fame, and was designed to give an adult look, despite the toon-style.

The producer of Wolf of Shinjuku is Shinji Waseki, who previously worked on games you've probably never heard of like Full House Kiss 2 and Finder Love. Full House Kiss is a boys love simulation (that is, a game where you play as a girl and attempt to woo the men, instead of the more common reverse approach), and yes, Capcom made two of them. Finder Love is less a game than an excuse to look at hot models in bikinis on your PSP.

Obviously, Waseki is making a big jump with this title. PS2 owners in Japan will get a chance to see the result in Spring 2007.

Hopefully the story is better then Yakuza. Every single character in that story was underused and developed and then they all died. :o

This game will suck... YAKUZA had puppy saving so it wins :o

Capcom games generally don't suck. Yakuza had a decently fun set of mechanics to it, but after you reach the endgame of the story it all felt like a bit of a waste to me. Nothing ever really develops in the story and every character just sort of doesn't develop because they just don't and then some of them die just because. Yakuza 2 needs 3 times the character driven cutscenes of the original.

But this trailer is good... I'll probably still play the sequel

Still, it had puppy saving. Add more puppy saving in Y2 and I would buy it.
