BvS The Wonder Woman Costume Thread - Part 7

I'd be fine with that pants outfit, but still have a soft spot for the skirt.

1) Nobody said anything about panties.
2) Was MoS particularly 'realistic'?
3) Designs looking interesting is not necessarily unrealistic.
4) Costumes in comic book movies don't necessarily need to be realistic.

1) Wonder Woman and her star spangled panties are iconic but not necessarily easy to pull off (down boys) on screen without looking ridiculous or camp (Hi Lynda. LOVE YOU)
2) Realistic in terms of translating comic book characters to screen. MoS had a similar "feel" to Nolan-verse. Like, I believed these characters could exist in our world unlike say... Fantastic Four.
3) Agreed, but I'm yet to really see one for WW that would fit in SnyderWorld. The Batman costume thread has come up with some goodies. I think the trio should compliment each other.
4) Again, a tone was set. Maybe "realistic" isn't the right word. More translatable and believable.

:-)

I definitely wouldn't mind it myself... I'm just worried other people will think a skirt looks silly in action scenes and whatnot.

Because you know, comic book movies can't just be comic book movies, lol.

I think that design is definitely in line with what they did with Superman for MOS. It seems to honor the classic look while being completely fresh and modern, AND simple. Honestly, I would go with that look. It also looks very practical for live action.

THIS is exactly what I was trying to say, only you said it way better.

I think the panties would look silly and a few other unfavorable things, but a skirt could work due to her origins. However...pants work for me too. So, as long as we don't get the stupid panties, I'm happy.

It's all good. Going by Superman's costume in Man of Steel, Snyder has zero tolerance on panties.

Actually, the more I think about it, Gal Gadot was such an anti-Hollywood choice, people don't give the casting enough credit. The immediate reaction was "She's a rail", with comments involving a flat chest, a flat bottom, not much of a physique involving curves. The odds were not in her favor that she would get a role like this. She's as far from a Megan Fox or a Jessica Biel as you can get. Combine this with the fact that she was actually in the Israeli military, she can handle action stunts herself, and she's been visibly bulking up in the gym... I think it's completely inspired and brilliant. I can't picture anyone more perfect for the role. I honestly can't.

I expect you're right about that, but the analogy isn't that close. Superman's trunks were entirely superfluous; Wonder Woman's can't be taken away without a replacement.

Totally agree. I've loved her since I first saw her in Fast Five. Though I wasn't expecting it, I didn't raise an eyebrow when she was cast. I think anyone who makes comments about T&A when it comes to WW is missing the point. God forbid a woman is intelligent, strong and equal to a man and - shock horror - DOESNT have a huge rack.

I have a similar frame to Gal. I work out, I train. I'm not weak.

I would prefer trousers to a skirt. No reason in particular. I think I just prefer the streamlined look.

I hope Snyder goes for a more heroic than warrior look for her. I hope he tries to make the mood a little more happier. Snyder/Goyer seem to think that realistic means gloom and negativity.
I'm torn about trunks vs skirt. The main problem with the Skirt is it tends to remove any heroic element from her. The nice thing about the trunks is that they immediately differentiate her from everyone else.
I really like this version too, though I might change the tiara a bit.

You'd be wrong on that, because Snyder actually fought for the underwear on the Superman costume, but realized it didn't really work.

Not a fan of the full body suit. I don't want her to have pants (I'd prefer a skirt) and I certainly don't want her to have long sleeves.

I wouldn't say zero tolerance. His greater career actually points to a preference to incorporate them, at least on the female heroic characters.

Also I really like this Hippolyta look for WW:
WonderWoman9July2007.jpg

Am I seeing WW being WW more than WW?

You said "Don't flatter yourself" so I had to flatter myself because I have oppositional defiance disorder. :o

Agreed on her having really cool costumes. She looks really cool in most all of her costumes.

Another reason that skirt is the best option as the first costume. Smth like Hypolita will be great.

You know if you're making an alien adopted on earth you can't adapt like he hasn't went throught anything. First you need to stablish him and knowing his story before seeing the hero that inspires people. He went trough many though times and he never was negative about it he never give up. some people think (WRONGLY) that they need to be laughing and smiling every time even if a hero is suffering or dealing with something dangerous.
btw YOU really need to see Superman's suit and tell me if that's not heroic, classic and realistic? :cwink:

I would be far more okay with WW being that covered up than the way she is in the comics. The on on the very right (edit: I meant left ) with a longer leotard would be fine by me silhouette wise.

I don't think Sucker Punch is the best example. He took a lot of heat for that movie. People wrote articles about it and called it sexist.

since Gadot is very thin then a full body suit might be a very good solotion to control and change the look of her body shape and make her look bigger.

He also took heat for Man of Steel ( which is amazing movie)and some people called it legacy destroyer. so yeah people say a lot of things

SP wasnt good but it wasnt sexist imho.

The costuming was but it was supposed to be sexist. There was an allegory for the way that women are thought to need to be sexual and superwomen and how people try to take their power and control it.

True but it does account for 20% of his live action filmography so it should be taken into account.

Personally I don't hate Suckerpunch, it's not a good story, but it's alright if you treat it like a ninety minute music video. The action scenes show great technical prowess on Zack's part.

Yes, but the complaints about sucker punch were specifically about it being sexist and "faux feminism." I doubt he'd want to repeat the exact same thing. I think some of the complaints about Mos bothered him too.

But anyways, there's a reason that skimpy outfits are becoming more rare in these big budget comic movies. It's because a decent number of people don't like that. They're trending away from that in order to target a wider audience. They aren't like comics that are going after a select group. They want to pull in everyone they can. You aren't going to see scantily clad ladies in the Avengers, you didn't see it in Mos or the Nolan trilogy and there's a good chance you won't see it here.

SP was a nice movie to look at. But it reeked of sexism and was absolutely ''faux feminism.'' It was pretty much exactly ''straight mans idea of feminism.''

But again, visually, it was very nice.

Once again... SUCKER PUNCH was Zack trying to unleash his inner Tarantino, but finding out his inner Quentin was actually Frank Miller.

Yep I agree he failed hard at trying to make a female bad as movie. He aspired for Tarantino but ended up more like a bad porn parody.

As bad as Sucker Punch was, in those fight scenes, they girls are never sexualised. In other parts of the movie, yes they are but not in the action scenes when they wear those costumes. I don't mind if Diana has the underwear, skirt or leggings as long as she isn't sexualised and I trust Zack more with Wonder Woman than any director, who isn't a woman.
