Welcome to the World of Heroes DC RPG Season VII

In the wake of a devastating attack on the entire superhero community, headed by the menace of the second coming of The Dark Alliance, legends have fallen.

Cyborg, the mentor to the Teen Titans, destroyed in his prime. Bulletman and Ma Hunkel, two pivotal members and friends of The Justice Society, robbed of their place on Earth.

Supergirl, the last daughter of Krypton and leader of The Teen Titans, slain in combat just before her life could truly begin. Ted Kord, The Blue Beetle, and one of the pioneers for many to follow, sacrificing himself for the good of mankind.

And perhaps the most shocking of all... The Dark Knight Detective himself, Bruce Wayne, better known to the world he helped protect as The Batman.

Even with vengeance sought and battles won, the lives of some of the world's greatest superheroes have been changed forever. And now, one year later, they must put aside their grief and rejoin the neverending battle.

But with even deadlier retalliation and more brutal heroes spurn out of the woodwork, can truth and justice prevail again?

Even with many heroes in active duty, can those the most deeply affected by the tragedies ever truly cope?

Rest in peace, those who've fallen. The battle has just begun.

This RPG is based off of post-Crisis on Infinite Earths and pre-Identity/Infinite Crisis.

If you want to take part in this, just fill in the application at the bottom of this post and we'll put your name and character on the first post here. First come, first serve. Two characters are now allowed.

Are NOT deities, gods, or people such as Shazam the Wizard. People like Superman and Captain Marvel are okay, though...

Are true to the personality and abilities of the character, such as NO Pre-Crisis Superman, no moving planets, sneezing away the Milky Way, no amnesia kiss... EVERYTHING is set POST-Crisis, and Post-Zero Hour, in the current continuity of the character you are/wish to play/playing.
  • Don't do anything RANDOM like chopping off board user's heads or what not, unless your a villain chopping off inanimate victims heads, then whatever, go with it, as long as it's not technically RANDOM.
    Don't kill people without reason.
    Don't randomly kill NPC's.
  • You know your weaknesses and strengths, what you can do or can't. Black Canary will lose against Superman one on one, but may be able to use her allies to help her out or she can run away. (HA! Yeah ri-ght)
  • Don’t kill a PC unless you have a plan to bring them back.
Don’t kill your character when you quit the RPG, this rob's a person from playing that character.

DC RPG Season VI Application

Screen Name: Master Bruce

Character you would like to play (please include the color and font you plan on using to portray the character): Batman

Powers and Brief Origin (provide at least two sentences): Utilizing the best of both brain and brawn to make up for what he lacks in superhuman prowess, The Batman's skills are as legendary as they are feared. Proclaimed "The World's Greatest Detective", The Dark Knight is known for operating with intimidation and superstition to affect the minds of his enemies. Part of this is the use of specialized technology that gives him the fearful appearance of a demonic Bat, or to help him solve one of his various cases. Where brute force is required, Batman has mastered hundreds of martial art forms from around the world, harnessing them into a triple threat of skilla that has left Gotham City's criminals paralyzed with fear for years.

Batman's origins are as shrouded in myth as the man himself is. Some have said he was an angel sent from heaven to cast the wicked out of a crime plagued city. Others have said he's an agent of the devil, feeding off of the souls of the wicked. But the most common belief, among those who know him best, is that he is a man that grew to hate crime and corruption as it ravaged Gotham City, and chose to embark on a lifelong crusade that would save it's citizens from that very evil. Whatever origins anyone believes, Batman's war on crime has left it's impact for over a decade upon the city. But recently, that mission came to a staggering halt, as The Caped Crusader was seemingly slain in battle with his deadliest enemy, The Joker. It has been one year since, and Gotham's criminals have basked in their newfound freedom, thinking they've escaped from his unwavering vengeance.

They thought wrong.

Group your character is aligned with (if applicable): The Justice League Of Amerca; The Outsiders; The World's Finest Duo; The Dynamic Duo; The Bat-Family/Squad; Justice League International; Gotham City's Police Department Of Law Enforcement. (Unofficially, through ties to Comissioner James Gordon)

Write two complete sentences using proper English grammar. One to explain what you plan to do with the character you've chosen. The other to explain why you've chosen this character. (i.e. What are your goals? Will you be doing anything different with the character than is usually seen?): I think the arc I'm involved in is pretty obvious. Batman's been dead for a year, and Gotham's been left to the wild dogs that are it's criminals. Now that he's returned, it's just a matter of re-establishing the order he lost through death... even if he has to take it back by force.

As for why I chose him? You don't need to ask. No, seriously. No one short of the mentally handicapped (no offense, GL) would need to ask that question, unless they've never met me in their life. But I'll humor you; Batman is my absolute favorite character in fiction. He's always been my favorite character, and he's remained as much for more than twenty years. I know him inside and out, and he's the one character I can say that with the utmost confidence. This is a role I was born to play, regardless of any RPG.

Do you have an Instant Messenger? Which one, and what is your screen name?: [email protected] - YIM, [email protected] - MSN

If you know how to post pictures, please provide a picture of your character you wish to be used for the Character Roster (if you do not know how, or do not have a preference, please say so and a default picture shall be picked for you):

"Put the guns down."

The voice seemed to come from every direction. Oswald Cobblepot's men collectively darted their eyes back and forth, in a panic, but were unable to deciepher the location of the monstrous barritone that echoed above them. Glass crashed, in the distance, as one of the thugs turned, alarmed by what he had heard. He had known who the voice belonged to. Every criminal in Gotham City knew that voice, and was hearing it constantly, even when they thought it had been silenced forever. And the worst part was, even knowing who he was facing, it didn't make holding the gun steadily any easier. The guy was that scary.

"Come out and fight, freak!", The panicked thug yelled, as his comrades searched the darkness with unsuccessful results.

"Man, oh man, don't tell me it's..."

"Shut up! He's dead! He's been dead for months!"

"Says you, man, says you!"

"...Joe?"

Defeaned silence came over the men in the darkness, as their guns focused heavily on the spaces of light infront of them. But their silence was soon errupted by a shriek of terror. The men turned, simultaneously, to try and find the origin. But what startled them most was the fact that they could swear they heard it from, as startling as it seemed... above them.

"I won't ask twice."

Startled shots of gunfire arose, as some of the men darted and scattered through the darkness. Some of them were gone. Others were trying to find their way out... before whatever was hunting them got to them.

"Jesus Christ! Keep your eyes open!", The leader yelled, loading more ammo into his weapon, when he slowly realized something: There was a faint breath on his neck. Turning around, the thug stared out at pitch blackness, trying desperately to find his invisible stalker.

"Wha-... What th... W-What in..."

"You know the chill that runs down your spine, and renders you petrified beyond belief?", The voice called out from every direction.

The thug's eyes widened even wider, as he was enveloped into darkness.

"That's me."

Character you would like to play: Dinah Laural Lance AKA Black Canary II

Powers: Supersonic scream, one of the top ten martial artists in the DCU *woot*
RPG Skill's Gained: Marksmanship in Guns and Archery, basic knowledge in Medicine, poisons.

Group your character is aligned with (if applicable): Justice League of America, Birds of Prey, Green Arrow Family, Bat-Family, Justice Society of America

Write two complete sentences using proper English grammar explaining what you plan to do with the character you've chosen (i.e. What are your goals? Will you be doing anything different with the character than is usually seen?):
This season my goal for Dinah as an individual is to basically bring her back to her roots while she tries to deal with two very different sets of memories in her head. Dealing mostly with her time in the alternate dimensions. As a character I’d like flesh out Dinah’s role in the newly formed JLA and have her take an active part in that.

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: Right now, when ever I’m needed.

Color and font you plan on using for your characters speech (Might not be applicable but it makes the roster pretty): Indigo for Dinah’s speech.

Ollie held her till her crying stopped, and then kept her there.

"How is she?"

Dinah looked at Bruce who had wheeled down the Hallway, and sat there looking slightly uncomfortable.
She turned her head the other direction, not wanting to talk to anyone.

"She's okay."

Dinah watched Bruce nod and then wheel off. It wasn't like he hadn't lost someone.

Wiping her tears and moving away from Ollie, Dinah asked
“What’s going on?”

Ollie reached out to brush her tears away as he answered.

“Hal’s back, about damn time too. The Question and Some ‘Constantine’ guy are planning on challenging Mordru to a winner takes all, Mumbo Jumbo magic thing.”

Dinah nodded as Ollie walked down the hall with her.
“I heard that.”

“I think it’s a damn mistake. Making decisions like that without a vote.” He mumbled
“From what I heard over the comm. The Alliance attacked Keystone City, so Wally’s pretty worked up. And that hung up the plans for this ’magical dual.’ You’ve been slated to take the eastside of Keystone City, and you’re going with Nightwing. And apparently we’re joined by another little bird, though less attractive than you.”

“Robin.”
Dinah said brushing off his comment. Ollie nodded as they walked quickly through the Watchtower Halls.

Dinah turned her comm back on.

“Also their trying to get in touch with the Spectre.”
Dinah started, “The Spectre?” she hadn’t seen him since…..

"Parallax armor? Is that what this is? I just figured it was time for a change. I've discovered a new source of power for my ring, much like when Rayner became Ion. A darker suit for darker times, I say. Best be careful who has your back, Sage, or there won't be a back to watch."

Ollie talked over Hal’s voice.
“Apparently their looking for a JSA member..?”

“No, I’m not getting mixed up in this.”

“I hope not, I don’t like the idea of them sending ‘non-powered’ members down their against those guys. Especially without asking us about it.”

“Hurt about not being included on the roster?”
She chided

Ollie’s face went stern.
“You should be here for Mia.”

Dinah slowed her walk and looked at Ollie.
“I know, but if I’m not you should be.”

She sighed

“Why Keystone City? There isn’t anything there. At least nothing these guys want.
I don’t like this, I don’t like how it feel’s and I don’t like how it’s being handled.”

Ollie stepped aside for her to enter the Control Room and said softly “That make’s two of us….”

Dinah stepped into the room and surveyed Wally, Superman, Constantine, Dick, Robin, Bruce, Babs and a few others.

“….Against a dozen.” He finished.

Character you would like to play (please include the color and font you plan on using to portray the character): Sinestro

Powers and Brief Origin (provide at least two sentences):
Sinestro is a former member of the Green Lantern Corps. that now uses a yellow ring of Qward for his own purposes. Like a Lantern ring, it can create constructs based on the will of the wearer. Unlike Lantern rings, the constructs are yellow, and the ring is charged by Lantern energy.

Group your character is aligned with (if applicable): Justice League

Write two complete sentences using proper English grammar. One to explain what you plan to do with the character you've chosen. The other to explain why you've chosen this character. (i.e. What are your goals? Will you be doing anything different with the character than is usually seen?): When I first learned Sinestro was free, I took him in Season III to lead him into a new direction. I've brought him to Earth to relearn how to be a hero and restore Order rather than Chaos. In this season, Sinestro will continue to grow and learn, hopefully, finally realize his new goal, to become the hero that can bring order to the universe.

Do you have an Instant Messenger? Which one, and what is your screen name?: MSN, AIM, Yahoo. All under wiegeabo.

"Thanks...um...thanks?" I nod and the officer pushes on the criminals head, giving my an unsure look as he forces the thug into the car. I look around at the scene. Police cars filled with criminals, their cars smashed into other vehicles and even buildings. Money scattered on the street. And a city block riddles with fresh gunfire. I sigh.

"You're welcome." I step away and rise into the air. As I rise above the Gotham skyline I take another deep breath and let it out slowly, rubbing the bridge of my nose. Then I close my eyes and tilt my head side to side, hearing and feeling the satisfying pops in my neck. I look down at the streets and buildings and wonder how he did it. Two days of trying to keep with with the rampant crime in this city and I'm already exhausted. And I have a power ring.

But I know the current level of chaos in Gotham is mostly due to the lack of his presence. There are rumors running through the streets that Batman is still alive, but it's not keeping them from acting like he's gone. I also know that I can't stay and protect his city forever. This is a big world, and this city already has plenty of protectors. He made sure of that.

I stretch out my arms and stifle a yawn. It's been a long few days. I think I'll finish out the week, then lea-

A blinding explosion of green light erupts in front of me. I'm forced to shield my eyes for a few seconds before the brightness subsides. When it does, my eyes readjust to the darkness.

"Are you prepared?"

Great. Just what I needed. "You're timing is impeccable, Ganthet."

His face gives away no expression. "Good, then we shall go."

"No...that is called sarcasm. I am no where near ready to return to Oa."

There's a flare of anger mixed with...disappointment? in Ganthet's face. "The Guardians gave you ample time-"

"Ample, until the world almost went to hells. Again. Didn't Rayner report all this to you? When did I have time to gather those I needed?"

"Lantern 2814.4 did report the events that recently transpired on Earth. Are you saying you had a part in defending this world?"

"If Rayner told you what happened, then you know I did. What is this, a test?"

Ganthet floats there for a moment, his hands calmly crossed inside his sleeves as if thinking about his next steps. Or maybe silently conversing with the other Guardians. "Very well. You will be granted an extension. Gather those you need, and I will return for you."

"Fair enough."

"But," he says more forcefully as he points at me.
Ganthet.gif

"We will not make this exception again. Do not delay. For whether you are ready or not, we will make our judgment." And as quickly as he appeared, he's gone.

***

I stare at the empty air and notice that the sun has started rising. I float there for a short time, considering Ganthet's words, and pondering everything I still need to do. I glance down at my ring, a small grin forming on my face.

Character you would like to play (please include the color and font you plan on using to portray the character): Jay Garrick (The Flash)

Powers and Brief Origin (provide at least two sentences): Jay is a speedster and a classic hero. By tapping into the speed force, Jay can run faster than the eye can see, phase through solid matter, heal at superhuman speed, and a variety of other speedster abilities.

Group your character is aligned with (if applicable): Justice Society of America

I pour myself another glass of milk, emptying the carton. As I drain the glass, I walk over and throw the carton in the trash with the other one I emptied. If you haven't gotten by now that Flashes need to eat a lot...well, then I can't help you.

I put the glass in the sink and hear the front door close. "Hi, Joan," I say as I walk towards the front room.

"Jay? You're here?" she asks as she puts the bag of groceries on the table. "I thought you'd be running around with the JSA."

"Not today." I walk up to help Joan, eying the groceries. But I resist and just help her with putting them up. "Actually, I was at the Brownstone today talking with Alan and Mr. Terrific."

"Oh? What were you talking about?"

We put up the last of the groceries and walk into the living room. "We talked about...retirement."

Joan stops and looks at me, eyes wide. "Jay. You're kidding. You can't retire. It would drive you nuts."

"Well...I'm not kidding." Joan just keeps staring at me. "And it would be more of a...semi-retirement. I'd still run around Keystone and Central, help Wally out. And when the JSA really needs me, I'd still be there."

We sit on the couch and Joan takes my hand in hers. "Jay, I'd love for you to stay home, safe with me. I've secretly always wanted it."

"Not so secretly," I tease.

She smiles. "True. But I'm also very proud of what you do. And I know just how important you are to the Society. So I don't want you to retire just for me."

I squeeze her hand. "It's not just for you. It's for me too." I sigh and lean back against the cushions. "I've seen a lot of terrible things lately. So much has happened. And I've done so much that...that I'm afraid. Afraid that if I keep going like I have been...I'll burn out. Or worse."

Joan lays her head on my shoulder and I wrap my arm around her. "So when does this 'semi' retirement start?"

"Why do you think I'm home when it's my weekend for monitor duty?"

Joan smiles. "Well, I don't mind that part one bit."

I smile too as I rub her shoulder. "I will have to go back when the training starts."

Joan looks up at me. "Training? For what?"

I look back at her and smile. "For the new recruits..."

Green Lantern (Hal Jordan)

Powers and Brief Origin (provide at least two sentences) If you copy/paste this information from another website, link back to it, or it is considered plagiarism and is not allowed. :
When his spaceship crash-landed on Earth, Abin Sur – the Green Lantern of space sector 2814 – sent his ring to find the nearest suitable replacement, a sentient being with the ability to overcome great fear. The ring found Hal Jordan, a test pilot working for Ferris Air in Coast City. The ring brought Jordan to the dying alien. In his last moments of life, Abin Sur told Jordan about the role of the Green Lantern Corps in policing and protecting the universe, gave him his power ring and its battery, and passed on his mantle to the Earthman. And so Hal Jordan became a Green Lantern.

As a member of the Green Lantern Corps, Jordan has access to one of the most powerful weapons in the known universe: his power ring. A power ring’s capabilities are limited only by the imagination and willpower of its wearer. Hal uses his to fly, to generate his Green Lantern Corps uniform, to form a protective forcefield around his body that also lets him travel safely through space, to translate alien languages, and to generate green solid-light constructs for use in battle, among other things.

In time, Hal Jordan became known as the greatest of all the Green Lanterns. But he was to suffer a terrible fall from grace. After being possessed by Parallax, the living embodiment of fear, the greatest Green Lantern became their greatest foe, nearly destroying the Corps, and the universe with it. But Hal Jordan called upon his great willpower one last time, taking control from Parallax long enough to sacrifice his life to save Earth from destruction. But that was not the end of Hal Jordan’s story. First, his spirit was host to the Spectre, and when the Spirit of Vengeance moved onto another host, Jordan found himself restored to life. Now free from the corrupting influence of Parallax, Hal Jordan has reclaimed his position as Green Lantern of Sector 2814 (though now he has a partner, Kyle Rayner), and he now fights to atone for his sins, and become the greatest Green Lantern of them all once more.

Write two complete sentences using proper English grammar. One to explain what you plan to do with the character you've chosen. The other to explain why you've chosen this character. (i.e. What are your goals? Will you be doing anything different with the character than is usually seen?):
Okay, there’s going to be more than two sentences, sorry. In my near 4 years of RPing on the Hype, I’ve never played a superhero. Sure, I’ve played good guys – Jim Gordon, Harvey Dent, Ultimate Nick Fury – but an all-out superhero? Nope. So this will be a new challenge for me, so I’m very excited about the change of pace. As for what I plan on doing with the character, well… I’ve seen quite a few people dismiss Hal as a flat, boring character. I want to challenge that assumption, and show that Hal Jordan can be an interesting, compelling hero.

Do you have an Instant Messenger? Which one, and what is your screen name?:

I have MSN. Drop me a PM if you want to add me.

Please provide a small sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contain at least one line of dialogue):

Sector 2814
Earth

Metropolis

Evil has escaped my sight.

I should have been here. My planet faced total destruction, my friends were being tortured and killed by monsters and psychopaths. Earth’s heroes needed to band together, to unify, one proud, fearless force to stand against the onslaught of the Dark Alliance, and where was I? Away.

We still won in the end, of course. The guys managed just fine without me, just like they’ve had to do… in the past. But not without some losses along the way. And our biggest defeat happened right here. With everyone converged at the Hall of Justice, in a battle with the Dark Alliance, that sick whackjob The Joker let loose his laughing gas on an unprotected Metropolis. Hundreds died. It could have been more. That’s what Ollie and Kyle and the others keep on telling me. It could have been more. But 900 deaths is still 900 deaths. People who died because those few who could fight for them were stretched too thin, because there just wasn’t enough of us.

Clark’s such a nice, unassuming guy – I’ve always said he’s more human than any of us. He smiles at me, puts that big hand on my shoulder and says that we need to do what Metropolis as a whole is doing: look forward. It’s a new beginning, and Metropolis is doing what it always does – coming together in a time of adversity. “That’s why it’s the greatest city in the world,” he laughs, before suggesting Carol and I should go out for dinner with him and Lois. But I see it in his eyes, the pain, the regret, the anger, the stuff he’d never dream of talking about, especially not to me of all people. I know what he’s going through, all to well.

And so now, I do what I’m sure Clark has done on many a quiet, restless night since this battle for our planet’s existence came to an end. I’m hovering high above the Metropolis skyline, looking down… thinking. I’ve thought about it a lot, just how easy it would have been for me to save all those people, if I’d been here. My ring could have had me at Metropolis in seconds, and dispersed the gas skywards, or collected it all inside an air-tight ball of solid-light energy. Or I could have lifted whole scores of people up into the air, taken them far away from central Metropolis, dropped them off out in a field in Smallville or wherever. But I couldn’t do any of that because I wasn’t here.

After my extended tenure on Oa, for all those months out in the edge of space, what kept me going was the thought of home. Earth. As I soared towards it, a little under a year ago, it seemed more beautiful than ever, from up in space. I’d been away, on a long journey, but I was home at last. I was looking to celebrate. But I soon found out exactly how much I’d missed.

My name is Hal Jordan. I’m an officer in the Green Lantern Corps. Space Sector 2814. And I have a lot to answer for.

…

Gotham City

My ring carries me across city borders at a speed far greater than even the most advanced of Earth’s jets (and believe me, I’ve piloted a few) could hope to match. In the blink of an eye, I’m touching down in Gotham Heights, just beyond the grounds of Wayne Manor. The mansion looms with a quietly commanding authority on the horizon. But the place feels empty now, lifeless. Dick and Tim still make sure the place is kept in good order, from what I understand, but with Alfred’s passing a few years ago, and now what happened last year, the building’s beating heart has been ripped out. Now it’s just bricks and mortar.

I decide to walk the rest of the way; it’s not far from here. Over the five minute walk, I take in the quiet, picturesque scenery around me, all green grass and rolling hills. A marked contrast from the inner city, to say the least. And then I arrive at my destination: Gotham Cemetery. Generations of Waynes call this their final resting place. I nod respectfully as I pass the headstones of Thomas and Martha Wayne, before stopping at a grave I never thought I’d live to see.

Here lies Bruce Wayne: Gotham’s White Knight

It’s no secret that Bruce and I never got along. Even at the best of times, he thought I was reckless and arrogant, and more recently, he refused to believe that I wasn’t responsible for my crimes as Parallax in the wake of my…resurrection, and made it quite clear that he was just waiting for me to snap again and reveal my true colors. As for me, I thought he was full of himself, that he was his own biggest fan. I hated that he never really put his full faith and trust in any of us, that we were always kept at arm’s length. But in truth, I think that the real reason for our mutual dislike was that we were so damn similar. A couple of normal men standing side-by-side with superhumans. We weren’t gifted with immense powers, like some of our JLA teammates, and had to rely on our own resourcefulness. And a few gadgets too, of course.

But more than that, something deeper. Bruce’s life was defined by seeing his parents die before his eyes, when he was just a child. I know how that feels, I know what it’s like to have your greatest fear come true. When that happens, it’s pretty easy to say you don’t fear anything. My father was my idol, the most important person in the world to me. And I watched him die. It’s what set me on the path to becoming the man I am today. Maybe that’s our greatest link of all: two men defined by our fathers.

And perhaps this has been playing in the back of my mind, now, the fact that Bruce and I could have been friends, should have been friends. Because I always hoped that I could prove him wrong, and earn his trust and respect. But that won’t happen now. I have The Joker to thank for that, too. I missed the funeral, the real one, for Batman. I hear they had a service for Bruce Wayne too, claiming that he was killed in Brainiac’s assault on Gotham, and that no body had been found. The life of Bruce Wayne, the philanthropist, was celebrated, and deservedly so. But Batman was mourned in private by the superhero community.

It is thanks to him that every single being on this planet is alive today. If it weren’t for him, The Joker would have destroyed the sun. But Batman gets no public service, no commemorative statue in Finger Memorial Park. Hell, a lot of people don’t even know for sure if he’s dead, with all these copycats running around. But maybe Bruce would have approved of that. He was never like the rest of us, soaring through the skies and the streets in our brightly colored outfits, cheered by the civilians below. He was something else, something of the shadows. A Dark Knight indeed.

“Goodbye, Bruce. You can rest now.”

…

Coast City
Home

The City Without Fear. That’s what they’re calling it now.

Coast City. The familiar skyline welcomes me as I slow my flight speed down. Superman calls Metropolis the greatest city in the world. He can have it. Coast City will always be number one in my books. I make a soft landing on my balcony, up on the top floor of the 22 Sea View apartment building. With a mere thought, the molecules of my form-fitting Green Lantern uniform shift into my decidedly roomier civilian attire, which as always includes my father’s beaten-down brown bomber jacket. The mask on my face fizzles into green energy and dissipates. And now I’m Hal Jordan, humble test pilot for Ferris Air.

Okay, maybe not so humble…

I lean on the ledge, and look out at the city I call home. Not too long ago, this city was one big ghost town. People were too scared to come back here after… what happened. The whole city, wiped out by the alien tyrant Mongul and the cyborg vermin known as Hank Henshaw. Friends, co-workers, life as I knew it, all gone in a murderous flash. It drove me to the edge of madness, and for the first time since I watched my father die, I allowed fear to consume me. And that’s how Parallax – fear incarnate – got its claws into me, and made me its puppet.

My actions disgraced the memory of the home I had lost. I became a bitter enemy to the people I had once called friends. And then something strange happened. I died. And then I came back to life, purged of Parallax and whole once more. And somehow, the infrastructure of Coast City was brought back too. I don’t know exactly how it happened, but what matters is that it did. Now I have a second chance, and want to give Coast City the same thing. I put a lot of effort into helping rebuild the city, with help of course. It’s useful having a friend who’s an architect. It took a while, at first it seemed like I was patrolling an empty city, but in time people started to overcome their great fear, and come back to Coast City.

There’s still a long way to go: a few thousand in a city that originally held north of 7 million. But the people who are here believe in this city. And they believe in me. It means a lot to me that, even after all I did, when I died, they put up a statue in honor of me. It’s still there today. I didn’t deserve it, after what I did I’m not worthy of that. But I want to make myself worthy of it, by showing these people that their faith is not misplaced. I’ve been away long enough. This is my sector, and Coast City is at its heart. It represents why what I do is so important.

I head inside, draping my bomber jacket up on the coat hook. I walk through into the bedroom, and quietly sit down on the edge of the bed. Don’t want to wake up Carol. Who’d ever have guessed it? Hal Jordan: married man. I don’t know what surprises me more, the fact that I’m married, or the fact that I’m absolutely, without-a-doubt, happily married. There were plenty of others, over the years, but Carol…she was always the one. Deep down, I always knew it, we both did. I was just too busy screwing around and running at the first sign of commitment to see it. But I see it now. Maybe I’ve grown up, at last. Maybe I’m getting old. I sometimes wonder what my life would have been like if the ring had never found its way to me. I’ve always been one to seek thrills – whether it’s with planes or with women – and having an atom bomb strapped to my ring finger surely served to feed the habit.

But it’s about more than that, always has been. People assume having the power to create just about anything your imagination and willpower can permit is a blessing. But that kind of power… it can change you. Look at what happened to Sinestro. Look at what happened to me. They think it takes willpower to control the ring. That’s the easy part. Try having all that power, and doing the right thing, putting what you want aside to be a part of something far greater than yourself, and your world. That takes willpower.

But damn…it’s worth it. Even after all the pain, all the loss. Even after dying. If I could go back all those years, and tell Abin Sur “no thanks”? No way. I’d take that ring, and do it all over again. This me. This is who I am, who I always will be.

Hal Jordan.
Green Lantern.

In brightest day, in blackest night.

"I figured you'd be out here."I turn around and look at Connor. The two of us are out on the terrace of the apartment as the sun sets. I'm in my full GA gear. Connor, being his night off, is in jeans and a t-shirt.

"Yep. I'm about to hit the town."

Connor smiles slightly at that.

"So, I heard Dinah leaving out early this morning."

"Yeah, she has some stuff to do. She left while I was still sleeping."

"Are you two like back together?"

"Only time will tell."

There's a long pause between the two of us as we stand across from each other.

"You don't want to go, do you?"

"Not really."

"Why?"

"Hell, son. They're scared of us, you saw them in Metropolis that day. They don't trust us, and with good reason. With Batman gone, there's nobody left to be a check against the metahumans. I mean, while we were up in the artic playing cowboys and indians, people died. People we could have saved died all because we were too busy protecting a goddamn hall."

"Quis custodiet ipsos custodes."

"What was that?"

"It's latin. It means 'Who watches the watchmen?'."

"Exactly."

Connor and I both look as we hear sirens ringing in the distance. Police sirens.

"That's me."

"Good luck out there."

I tip my start to run. I leap off the terrace and on to a nearby rooftop.

The future might be shaky, but all that matters is the here and now.

One thing this whole fiasco with the new Dark Alliance taught me is time is prescious. You have to do the best with the time you have on this earth.

I'd like to think I've done some stuff with my time here.

I'm Oliver Queen. Former billionaire, mayor of Star City, and presidential candidate. Father to Connor Hawke and adopted father to Roy Haper and Mia Dearden, as well as grandfather to Lian Harper.

I've been the lover to many women over the past years, but none so much as Dinah Lance, my pretty bird.

Best friend to Hal Jordan.

While I'm all these things, I'm one thing above all others.

My name is Oliver Queen, but when I'm running around as Robin Hood at night. I'm....

DC RPG Season VII Application

Screen Name: Byrd Man

Character you would like to play (please include the color and font you plan on using to portray the character): Richard John "Dick" Grayson/Nightwing

Powers and Brief Origin (provide at least two sentences):

Powers: From Wiki:
Dick Grayson possesses the peak athletic strength and endurance of a man in his early twenties who regularly engages in intensive physical exercise. His detective and martial arts skills rival that of Batman's, making him one of the greatest crime fighters alive. He is a master of a half dozen martial arts disciplines that include Judo, Jeet Kune Do, Taekwondo, Aikido, Wing Chun, and Escrima. He also possesses vast training in other martial arts such as Hapkido, Jiu-jitsu, Karate, Savate, Kendo, Ninjutsu, and Tai Chi. He was rigorously trained by the Dark Knight in everything from escapology to criminology, fencing, stealth, disguise, and numerous other combat/non-combat disciplines. Dick Grayson is 5'10 and 175 pounds.

Origin: Dick was an acrobat, along with his parent's, in the circus. After his parent's untimely death, Dick was adopted by Bruce Wayne. After learning that Bruce Wayne was The Batman, Dick became his sidekick. Robin, The Boy Wonder. After serving along side Batman for years. Dick struck out on his own. Becoming the hero known as Nightwing.

Group your character is aligned with (if applicable): The Teen Titans (former)

Write two complete sentences using proper English grammar. One to explain what you plan to do with the character you've chosen. The other to explain why you've chosen this character. (i.e. What are your goals? Will you be doing anything different with the character than is usually seen?): Dick is my favorite Robin, and he's been able to become his own man. Outside of the shadow of the bat. He's also one of the most important characters in the DCU. Don't believe me? This is what Phil Jimenez said...

"Dick has so many connections to other characters. In many ways, even more than Superman or Batman, Nightwing is the soul, the linch-pin, of the DCU. He's well respected by everyone, known to the JLA, the Titans, the Outsiders, Birds of Prey — everyone looks to him for advice, for friendship, for his skills. He's the natural leader of the DCU."

As far as my goals, I want to show him coming into prominence with the Bat-Family with the death of Bruce. As well as battle the forces of Gotham.

Nightwing-1.jpg

It's night time here in Gotham. A slow drizzle has set in for the night.

From the safety of a fire escape I listen to the sounds of the night.

While I'm used to the usual sounds of hearing lover's spats and dogs barking over wailing sirens and a hundred different other noises. I don't hear them.

Something I've rarely seen has griped this city.

Gotham is silent.

I'm not sure if it's the city recovering from Brainiac's rampage or if it's in mourning for it's lost hero. Whatever it is, I know one thing:

It's temporary.

With Batman gone, Gotham is going to find it self in a whirlwind of would be conquers along with the usual freaks and villians that plague this city.

"Doing some late night work there, Man Wonder?" Babs buzzes in my ear.

"I don't know, Babs. You doing some late night stalking?"

I chuckle as I dive off the fire escape and somersault into the alleyway below.

"So, are you moving back to Gotham now?"

"Yep. I'm going back to New York tomorrow and handing in my badge."

"That's a shame, you looked sexy in blue."

I run down the alley and fire a grapnel line into the air.

My body jerks forward as the grapnel catches and swings me into the air.

"It feels weird. Sitting here without seeing his commlink online."

"I know what you mean. I grew up on these streets, but it doesn't feel the same knowing he's not out there." I say as I land hard on the gravel of a rooftop.

"As you acrobats would say, you lost your safety net."

"Well, as you computer geeks would say, I've lost my backup drives."

"Touche, Twentysomething Wonder."

"Barbara...."

"Yeah, Dick?"

"I'm scared. For the first time in a long time, I'm afraid of what the future brings. I don't know if I can do it without Bruce. As much as I tried to be my own man, I always had Bruce to fall back on. I'm really up here now without a net."

Barbara's silent for a long time, she's unsure of what to say.

"Dick, you can do this. I know you're scared of doing it by yourself, but you're more than ready. Superman wouldn't have offered you membership into the Leauge unless he was positive you've made it."

"Wait. How did you know that? I hadn't told anyone."

"I'm psychic...oh, and he told me so I can switch over Batman's voice authorization codes to your voice."

"That explains the call. And here I was thinking you only wanted me for my body."

"No. I'm just after your money, Mister Moneybags."

"Ahh, the plot thins."

Barbara and I are silent as I continue to move from rooftop to rooftop.

"Still there?"

"Yep."

"If you're not doing anything tomorrow, how about you and I go out?"

"Be still my beating heart."

"I take that as a yes?"

"It's a maybe. Don't push your luck, shortpants."

"Hey! Only Roy gets to call me shortpants."

I hear the click of the commlink as Barbara disconnects.

I stand on the edge of a rooftop and watch as the sun starts to slowly come over the horizon.

I'm not sure what tomorrow will bring. But I know one thing:

I'll be ready.

Here we go!

DC RPG Season VII Application

Screen Name: Andy C.

Character you would like to play (please include the color and font you plan on using to portray the character): Superman

Powers and Brief Origin (provide at least two sentences)

Rocketed from the doomed planet of Krypton, Kal-El was raised by the kindly Jonathan and Martha Kent on the plains of Smallville, Kansas. Taught to uphold virtue and help those who needed it, young 'Clark' did his best to do right by everyone he knew...a trait which only compounded itself when he learned of his incredible powers. From that point on, he struck out to make his own destiny...and in doing so, became the stuff of legend.

Superman has spent the last year attempting to undo as much of the damage done by the Dark Alliance as he can, helping rebuild the devastated cities, and console the families and friends of their many victims. While the return of the long-missing Lois Lane was an incredible relief, he is still haunted by the loss of his cousin Kara, the murdered Supergirl. When he was rescued by the New God Metron, however, he learned that a Kryptonian was calling for him, by name, from the other side of the Source Wall. Now torn between his duty to protect the Earth and his longing to revive his cousin, Superman will soon embark on the greatest and most dangerous journey of his life.

Group your character is aligned with (if applicable):

Justice League of America, World's Finest Team, the 'Trinity,' The Superman Family, Legion of Super-Heroes (in the 31st Century), honorary deputy of the Metropolis Police Department

Write two complete sentences using proper English grammar. One to explain what you plan to do with the character you've chosen. The other to explain why you've chosen this character. (i.e. What are your goals? Will you be doing anything different with the character than is usually seen?):

I've picked Superman again mostly because I absolutely love the character and his mythos, but also because I feel I can tell stories with him on a scale that I couldn't with other chracters. I plan on taking him on some of the craziest, biggest scale, most mind-blowing adventures I can think of this season, and hopefully helping to bring some more solidarity to the Justice League. Supes is going to be all over the place in Season VII, and he's bringing pure unleaded Silver Age mayhem with him.

"It's a long story, Jim. Really long. She was exaggerating a little bit, though--she didn't actually die this time. It was--"

"What's everybody standing around for?!"
Perry White's voice booms as he charges out of his office. "Are we a newsroom here, or a knitting...circle...Great Caesar's Ghost..."

Upon seeing Lois, Perry turns tail and marches right back into his office, going for the bottle of stress-relievers in his desk.

"Good to see you too, Perry!"
Lois says before putting the phone back to her ear to keep talking to Lucy.

"*ahem*...err, long story short, Jim, what happened was, well...Superman happened."

And judging from the screams I hear over in Suicide Slum, he's about to happen again.

"Eeuuurrrgh,"
I moan, feigning nausea, "unfortunately, Lois' cooking hasn't gotten any better while she was gone. I think her eggs Benedict just turned traitor on me..."

With that, I stumble towards the bathroom, trying to keep the imaginary breakfast from coming up. I hate to do that to Jimmy, but I can finish playing catch-up in a minute.

As I round the corner, I duck into the janitor's closet. A quick X_ray glance across town shows me everything I need. Bouncing balls that hit like wrecking balls. Plastic army-men with working flamethrowers and grenades. And a 50-foot rubber ducky rolling down the street like a tank.

Toyman's on the loose again.

No matter what happens, no matter how bad things might get, there's always the job to be done. There are always those who need help, and those who go to help them. It's what made me put on the costume. It's what made Bruce do the same. In the end, it's not about if you have powers, or what you did beforehand, or even if you messed up the last time.

It's about the job.

Screen Name: Question, when is a screen name Master Bruce? When it's mine.

Character you would like to play (please include the color and font you plan on using to portray the character): The Riddler/Edward 'Eddie Nashton' Nygma

Powers and Brief Origin (provide at least two sentences): The Riddler has no superhuman powers, but has an intellect higher than most normal human beings. An obsession with math and quizical conundrums has gifted him with a mind capable of memorizing any face, code, or sound that his brain has archived over a number of years. Edward is also an accomplished craftsman, designing custom electronic and practical puzzles, traps, and games that have nearly killed many of Gotham's finest... even many of it's vigilantes.

To say that Edward Nygma was a born prodigy would be quite the understatement. In truth, the boy known as 'Little Eddie' was a genius from the very beginning. Solving his first rubik's cube at four. Completing a booklet of crossword puzzles at six. Beating calculatory machines at chess during his freshmen years of High School. If there was a puzzle invented, Edward could solve it. But like all great minds, his craving for the attention and recognition of his keen intellect managed to attract a number of jealous bullies. Even his own father despised Edward for choosing math and puzzles over the sports of his peers.

Whether it was out of that torment, or simply the thrill, Edward eventually turned to a life of crime during adulthood. Originally just a thief, Edward soon developed his own unique style, leaving impossible riddles and clues to solve for the authorities. Eventually, these games resulted into the formation of a villainous alter-ego: The Riddler. When plaguing Gotham City with his attention seeking crimes, Edward eventually met his match in the vigilante known as The Batman. Ever since, Edward's obsession with puzzles has culminated into a battle of wits against The Dark Knight, as the criminal became determined to stump his one worthy foe.

Group your character is aligned with (if applicable): Gotham City's rogues gallery; The Society Of Super-Villains; the Arkham Asylum institutional patient roster

Write two complete sentences using proper English grammar. One to explain what you plan to do with the character you've chosen. The other to explain why you've chosen this character. (i.e. What are your goals? Will you be doing anything different with the character than is usually seen?):

Basically, what I want to accomplish with my arc is defragmenting The Riddler. Often, he's seen as a joke of a character, and in many ways rightfully so. But recently, in the comics, he's been developed into a well rounded character of interest. I want to do that with this RPG's Riddler, while exploring both what made him turn to crime, and why he can't leave some of those mannerisms behind, even when he's gone straight.

The reason I chose him was because of several reasons. One, I've always wanted to play him, but the prospect of coming up with riddles turned me off of it. Two, the current arc in the RPG is that Batman has been dead for a year and, well, I want a character that examines how that affects some of the villains that literally depended on him to exist. Three, I know that if I'm going to stick with any character, it'll need to be a Batman character. Four... well **** you, I'm playing him. :cmad:

The clock strikes midnight, just as I finish the last box of the crossword. I can still hear the church bell over my showtunes, minutes after I've put the book down and closed my eyes. Crosswords. Hah. Never thought I'd still be doing those, with all that's happened. Then again, why deny my true nature? It's only one part of me that's changed, this past year. And if there's anything I can say that's always been apart of me, even from the beginning, it was that the curiosity fueled my mind to test itself to the absolute limit. Even if it is just a five dollar booklet.

But, hey. With no buisness, lately, I need something pass the time. After all, I think it was Arthur Wynn, the crossword's inventor, that said it best... "A man's mind untested is a mind put to waste".

Hmm. You know, something about today seems... peculiar. Like a cloud hanging over me, everywhere I've gone. But that's just the skeptic in mind, I'm sure. I mean, today couldn't possibly be...

I pause. Suddenly, it dawns on me. Today. The day's date. That's why I took such an interest in the time... I was looking at the clock this very minute, one year ago. Today's the anniversary of the day that my life changed forever. Today... he'll have been gone a year.

My mind reels, as I sit back in my chair, contemplating this. I feel as if I've lost a life long friend, though in truth, we never really did like eachother. But I... I respected the man. It only feels nessecary that I pay a fitting tribute. After all, one year later...

I've been the lover to many women over the past years, but none so much as Dinah Lance, my pretty bird.

Best friend to Hal Jordan.

While I'm all these things, I'm one thing above all others.

My name is Oliver Queen, but when I'm running around as Robin Hood at night. I'm....

Approved.

Character you would like to play (please include the color and font you plan on using to portray the character):
The Joker

Powers and Brief Origin (provide at least two sentences):
His origins are shrouded in mystery. Some say he was an ordinary man, driven insane by great tragedy. Others say he was always a monster. But what is known is that a fall into a vat of chemicals bleached the skin of this nameless man white, and dyed his hair green. In that moment, the ultimate emobdiment of evil as madness was created. On that night, The Joker was born.

The Joker has no superpowers. But he has a collection of comedically-themed weapons, from high-voltage joy-buzzers to acid-squirting trick-flowers. And then there is his most deadly weapon: Joker Venom, often taking the form of a lethal laughing gas, that leaves its victims with a permanent rictus grin. But what makes The Joker truly dangerous is his pure insanity. It makes his actions impossible to predict, and means he has no conscience, no restraint, no remorse. He could very well be the most dangerous man on the planet.

Please provide a small sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contain at least one line of dialogue):

Funny story. There’s this clown, right? And for years and years and years, his mortal enemy is a bat. Ha! A clown fighting a bat, that’s a gag and a half right there! But it gets better. See, all this time they’re fighting, and the clown is trying to kill the bat. He needs to prove he’s better than the bat, you see, once and for all. And so this clown spends every waking hour thinking up new ways to try and kill this bat. None of them work, and every time a plan fails the clown gets sent to the nuthouse. Then he breaks out, kills a few people who don’t really matter in the grand scheme of things, then tries and fails to kill the bat again. And this is how it goes on, endlessly, for all these years. All things considered, it’s a good life for the clown. But then something terrible happens, something the clown does that ruins that good life of his forever.

He succeeds.

Finally, he wins. The clown kills the bat! And here’s the kicker, folks, the big punchline. Once the bat is gone, the clown mourns him. The clown misses him… more than anyone! You see, he realises that this wasn’t a fight he ever needed to win. It was the fight itself that gave his life meaning, that gave the clown his smile. I guess the old saying’s right, it’s not the winning, but the taking part that counts, huh? But it’s a lesson learned too late, because now the bat is dead and buried, and the clown can say he’s won. He won, and there’s no one worth gloating to, no one left who’ll get the joke other than him. Now he’s all alone in the world: unmatched, unparalleled, missing his other half, forever incomplete.

In short, he’s a sad, sad clown.

Cloudy outside. Dull. Been raining all morning, and all night before it. But I can see it now, the beams of light fighting their way through the gathered black clouds. The sun is emerging at last, finding its way back to us at the end of the storm, telling us that things are going to get better, eventually. I hate it. We’d come so close to extinguishing that sun in the sky, and with it this planet’s hope, then its life. But now Brainiac’s dead, tossed into a supermassive black hole, from what I understand. Lex Luthor, Prometheus, Deathstroke, Solomon Grundy and Cyborg Hank, they’re all dead too. Dr. Light, Captain Nazi, Croc, they got locked up. Who the hell knows where Hazard is. And from what I’ve heard through the grapevine, Zoom and Two-Face let their balls drop off, and are now boldly fighting the good fight to atone for their sins. So much for the Dark Alliance.

I hear they had a funeral for Batman. Obviously, I wasn’t invited. Makes me kinda sick to think about all these caped imbeciles standing around in their tights, blubbing over his cold, bloated corpse. As if they knew him, as if they mattered. They called themselves his allies, his friends. But I know the truth. He was never like them, never one of them. He sometimes pretended to be, he might have even wanted to be, but he wasn’t. Never. He had one friend, one truly kindred spirit. Me. The Joker. The two of us were always two sides of the same bad penny; an enigma to everyone else, but able to see right through each other, right into the rotten souls at our respective cores. Two of a kind, a league of our own. There was the rest of existence, and then there was us. And now there’s only me.

They’re going to be looking for me now, Batman’s…so-called friends. Not that I care. Oh don’t get me wrong, I won’t make it easy for them. I’m going to do what I always could, when the inclination took me. Vanish, disappear into thin air. That’s not difficult when you have no connections, nothing you value, nothing holding you to the dull, everyday world above. And if they do find me, I’ll fight them. But it won’t be the same. Where’s the thrill of the chase when you don’t have a worthy adversary pursuing you? What’s the point?

That’s a question I’ve been asking myself quite a bit lately. What’s the point? Of running, of fighting, of existing? Alas, no need to worry, Gentle Reader, your old friend The Joker has no intentions of suicide. I’ll go on, I suppose, keep on killing and maiming and spreading fear like a virus. What else am I going to do? It’s all I know, really. “But why?”, I hear you ask. Why keep on performing without the only audience that ever mattered? Well, here’s the thing…

That question I’ve been asking myself? What’s the point? I found the answer. In fact, I knew it all along. There is no point! Isn’t that what I’ve been saying, all this time? I wanted to expose the futile hypocrisy of all these mindless little insects who strive to find meaning in their lives, all the while blind to the fact that I too was a hypocrite. Hell of a joke, huh? I had a meaning in my life. I had Batman. But I killed Batman. I took my best friend, my only friend, and I stabbed a knife right through his heart. And now all that’s left for me to do is practise what I preach. Kill for no reason. Strive for no purpose. Endlessly act out the cruel, twisted joke that is life itself.

Even if I don’t find it funny anymore.

But… well… I guess I’ll laugh anyway.

Please provide a small sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contain at least one line of dialogue):

The dichotomy of nature and humanity is often in harsh contrast. The daisy that manages to grow from a crack in the sidewalk, only to be crushed by a trash can placed upon it. The grass peeking from a dark corner of a street before the leaking of car oil kills it. Mushrooms growing in a dark and dank alley until the pollution smoothers them. But sometimes, sometimes nature survives, not as the forced growing of grass on a public street in front of apartment buildings, but naturally, on its own, and it thrives.

The petal of the flower quivered a moment, as if hesitant to open before it unfolded, the vines around it started to twitch themselves as if sensing that the flower was beginning to open. It had been too long in the dankness of the sewer, despite a dry spot with surprisingly rich soil it had grown weary of the filtered sunlight from the sewer grates. The noisy streets above caused a din, and the water flowing from the grates was dirty and unseemly. Unfolding, the large red petals revealed more green within, it slowly stirred, two long arms reaching out to stretch before a head turned, the vibrant red giving way as it did revealing the last petal to be a mass of hair. The full, deep green lips smiled as she spun and slipped over the side of the flower, landing lightly on a vine as the rest of them moved and shifted to curl around her. Her smile intensified even more as she stroked the vines lovingly, inspecting them for wounds in their smooth green epidermis for scars.

Seeing they were in perfect health she walked down the sewer, stopping a bit away from a large sewer grate that lead to the river front. reaching her hand down she waited as vines inched up it, putting pressure on the vital areas metal before it popped off with a loud clang and fell into the river below. Leaning over Ivy smiled as she took in the sun, her hair fiery red in it's heat. Sliding into the river she made her way to the bank and walked up it, stopping near a small patch of dandelions, and leaning over. Her delicate green fingers caressed them delicately urging them to grow.

"What news my little darlings?" She whispered softly, barely louder than the wind.

They wobbled delicately, their reply making her smile broadly.
"I see." She stood up and surveyed the derelict warehouses and overflowing trash bins along the river. Stifling nature, killing it for no reason, other than it's there. She frowned, her hands creating fists at her side. He was gone, how dare anyone kill him, bring him under their control, but herself?

"Still...with him out of the way, the fruit of Gotham is ripe for the picking...One thing at a time dear."

She smiled and reached her hands out, calling to the plants, the ground began to shake and splinter, roots and vines twisting and coiling from the concrete up and around the buildings slowly pulling them down. She laughed blissfully, happily, the long days of living under the filth and hypocrisy of humanity was over. The chains that had bound Gotham for so long, were gone. He was gone. The stark realization hit her, the only man who had ever been able to defy her was gone. Her laugh grew louder and harsher, bitterness running through it. She was free, truly and wonderfully free.

Character you would like to play (please include the color and font you plan on using to portray the character): Batwoman
(Katherine Kane)

Powers and Brief Origin (provide at least two sentences):
Kate possesses no powers. Instead, she relies on peak levels of athleticism, a higher intellect, and a wide array of gadgetry. While she may seem outmatched in a world where men are faster than speeding bullets, these three combined attributes make her a formidable foe.

Okay, stop me if you've heard this one: wealthy socialite dresses up as a bat to fight crime. Yes, at their core, Batman and Batwoman are vastly similar - as they should be. However, they are just as different as they are the same. Kate feels she's been called to duty by the tragedy resulting from "No Man's Land." Her parents, as compassionate as Two-Face is pretty, highly disapprove of Kate's desire to help the needy. So Kate tries a different approach. Drawing from the famed Caped Crusader, Kate takes the fight for justice in Gotham to the streets as the aptly-named Batwoman.

Group your character is aligned with (if applicable):
None.

Write two complete sentences using proper English grammar. One to explain what you plan to do with the character you've chosen. The other to explain why you've chosen this character. (i.e. What are your goals? Will you be doing anything different with the character than is usually seen?):
What I plan to do and why I've chosen this character stem from the same thing: the death of Batman. With Batman gone, someone needs to step up and defend Gotham in his absence. I imagine Kate won't be the only contender to this throne, but it certainly makes explaining her motives a little easier.

It's been one year since Batman died, and thus Kate has been on the scene for that long. She's still a fledgling crimefighter, but she's begun to hone her skills. Now, it's time to start making a significant difference in the Gotham underworld.

Please provide a small sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contain at least one line of dialogue):

The cool, crisp air of another Gotham night belies a more sinister undertone. For this night, as with all Gotham nights, carries with it a possibility for malice. When the sun sets on Gotham City, the wicked and cruel take over. Innocence has no place in Gotham City - especially not at night. And everyone - regardless of race, creed, sex, or age - is a potential target for the sadistic, the cold-hearted. Even something as innocent as an emptying movie theater can become twisted and demoralized.

"I'll hail a cab," the woman offers as she steps to the edge of the street. The clonking of her heels stands out among the white noise of the assembled crowd. People laugh and converse about the movie - seemingly unaware of the impending danger of this night.

The man reaches out and takes her hand, leading her away from the street. His jet-black hair is slicked back, giving him a more 'polished' look. It was a simple hairstyle choice, made moments after stepping out of the shower. Nothing in Gotham is simple. In the rotten city, even a hairstyle can betray. "Nonsense," he insists to his wife. "We'll walk."

"Walk?"
the woman repeats, as if the concept is foreign to her. She looks at her husband, then down at her son. The boy is too busy twiddling his thumbs to pay any attention.

The man laughs and smiles. His carefree attitude is about to lead him directly into danger. Only then will he learn the true meaning of caution. "Sure!" he replies enthusiastically. He takes a deep breath and explains, "It's a beautiful night. Let's not waste it."

The woman eyes her husband wearily. Her conscience screams out for refusal, but this is the man she married. Why should she not trust him? After all, perhaps she's simply being paranoid. She's lived in the city for years. How was she to know that tonight would be the one night where things took a turn for the worse? "Okay," she relents defeatedly. She looks up at the street ahead anxiously. "It's only a few blocks, anyway," she remarks, more to herself than anyone else.

The man's smile grows as he takes his wife's hand. "Exactly."

After a few minutes of walking, the dull roar of the crowd outside the theater begins to dim. The man and woman discuss the movie while their son hums an upbeat tune. They reach a corner and turn down the deserted street - a place no right-minded citizen would go at this hour. But the couple is too engrossed in their conversation to notice the ominous silence, and the boy is too young to comprehend the gravity of the situation.

He hears the humming first. Rising from his resting place behind a dumpster, he stands up to investigate. Keeping to the shadows, he quietly watches his prey. The woman wears fancy heels, and the man is dressed sharply. These observations leave the impression of moderate wealth - more than he could ever say for himself, anyway. These were the telltale signs of a fresh target, ripe for the picking. His pace increases with excited fervor now, as he closes the distance between himself and the family.

"Give me all your money now!" the mugger demands insistently, angrily. He draws his handgun and points it carelessly. He worries not about his volume. At this hour, the city sleeps. And even those who are awake are too detached to care for their neighbors. Kitty Genovese learned that lesson a long time ago. It's the simple principle under which the criminal element - like this mugger - operates comfortably. In a city as lost as Gotham, good Samaritans simply didn't exist. "NOW!" he shouts, wishing to make his point painstakingly clear.

The woman cowers over her son as the man throws up his hands. Clearing his throat, the man responds, "We don't want any trouble." His bravado is laced with cowardice and fear. He understands that it is his responsibility to protect his family, but he does not know how to do so at gunpoint.

"Well, you found it," the mugger snarls, extending his free hand impatiently. The gun rattles as his hand shakes.

"Really, we don't have much!" the man insists as he reaches slowly for his wallet. The mugger's feverish eyes stare at the man's hand cautiously. If the mugger suspected foul play, he wouldn't hesitate to shoot. He had done it before, and he was prepared to do it again. Too often had he taken mace to the eyes.

The mugger relaxes when he sees a wallet. "Hand it over!" he barks. As the man slowly extends his arm, the mugger looks around. This had taken too long, and it was occurring in the exposed street. In the off-chance that someone felt like being heroic...

"Here," the man croaks, holding his wallet like it's going to explode. He closes his eyes and looks away from the mugger. He hopes that the gesture will encourage the mugger to take the wallet and leave. However, he underestimates the jittery logic of a criminal. His next sharp intake of air is almost his last.

They've seen too much! the mugger muses fearfully. He quickly snatches the wallet from the man's hand and examines his prey. They can identify my face! He aims the gun at the boy.

The woman sees the madness in his eyes. She sees the metal barrel aimed at her son. And it all causes her to release a high-pitched gasp. The sudden noise agitates the mugger, and he swings his gun around to point it at her. His finger twitches on the trigger...

WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWHHHP!

The sharp whistle of metal through the air is accompanied by the sudden, juicy spurt of fresh blood and the dull clamor of the mugger's handgun hitting the ground. The mugger bites down hard as he suppresses a childlike squeal. He cradles his hand - examining the fresh, bloody slice along his fingers. Moments after registering what has happened, a sturdy boot smashes against the side of his face.

The attacks come quickly, masked by the flapping sound of a leather cape. Crawling on the ground, the mugger receives a sharp kick to the nose. His head jerks back as the blood flies. Blinded by pain, he doesn't see his attacker. He simply feels someone grab his scalp and lift him up, toes still dragging on the ground. Out of nowhere, a sharp cross to the chin nearly knocks him out. He is thrust backwards, slamming into a light-post. The next thing he feels is someone tying his hands together behind the post.

A small object is dropped onto his lap as he can feel his attacker's breath on his neck. "Something to remember me by." Moments later, the mugger regains enough clarity to open his eyes. Sitting in his lap is a flat, metallic bat. Looking around, he is unable to locate his attacker. He groans in pain as he spits out a tooth.

***

In the midst of all the excitement, the family fled. Good. Nobody should ever have to go through such a traumatizing experience. Especially not a child. I'm just glad that boy will be able to grow up into a home with two loving parents. At times, it's more than I think I can say for myself. I don't even want to think about my parents right now. They truly perplex me anymore.

Sighing, I look up at the full moon looming over Gotham. I've done a good thing, but it's only a start. The night is still young. There are many hours before the reluctant sun rises over this city again. And until that time comes, it's up to me to keep Gotham safe - as daunting a task as that is. I wonder if he would think I'm worthy. I wonder if he were still around, and I could ask him, what would he have to say for my new 'hobby?'

Would he approve? I guess I can never know. It's a shame. The man is my inspiration, and he's gone. I suppose we all live to see the end of our idols. It's the cruelty of time that those who came before us shall one day be gone. And that is why we are so important. Because as frightening as the thought is, without us, no one would carry on the legacy.

I don't consider myself 'special' or worthy to take his place. By no means. But without a silent guardian, Gotham would descend into chaos. It's important to remind criminals that just because he's gone...doesn't mean they're done living in the shadow of the Bat.

Character you would like to play (please include the color and font you plan on using to portray the character): Superboy
(Bold blue Tahoma)

Powers and Brief Origin (provide at least two sentences) If you copy/paste this information from another website, link back to it, or it is considered plagiarism and is not allowed.:
Superboy has most of the abilities of Superman: strength, speed, flight, heat-vision, x-ray vision, invulnerability. But Superboy has an added bonus of tactile telekinesis.

Superboy is a clone of Superman mixed with Lex Luthor. Superboy started as a replacement for Superman when he died. Superman embraced his clone, giving him the Kryptonian name Kon-El. Superboy then lived with the Kents under the name of Connor Kent. He fought alongside the Teen Titans - while simultaneously courting Cassie Sandsmark. Connor's life was put on hold when he went into a coma. One year later, he returned to the life he once knew. The new Dark Alliance ruined everything, however, as Connor was able to be manipulated by the Luthor DNA in his blood. During his short tenure as a villain, Connor paralyzed his teammate and long-time girlfriend, Cassie.

Frankly, the Teen Titans are being played by some of the most talented writers I know, and working with them is a privilege. I have much planned for Connor this year, and I intend to see it through. It should be another fun ride.

It's one of my favorite pictures. As I playfully roll my eyes, Cassie plants a soft kiss on my cheek. In the background, the bright lights of the boardwalk add a finishing touch to a magical evening. Suit unbuttoned and tie loosened, I sit quietly on the edge of my bed, holding the picture in my hands. It came from one of our first dates after 'officially' becoming a couple. Life was simpler back then.

Okay, maybe it wasn't simpler, but we were all so optimistic - maybe even naive - that it didn't matter. There were still wars, people still died, and hearts were still broken. But the Titans, all of us, used to think that everything was going to be okay. We were all sure that we could change the world. Maybe we have, but it's not what we had hoped for. We see now that it was childish to think that we could solve all of the world's problems, but we had certainly hoped for better results.

Now, as we grow older, it's getting progressively harder to keep that mentality. We're reaching a very turbulent time in our lives. Our days as Teen Titans are numbered. Adulthood - and all its subsequent problems - breathes down our neck terrifyingly. We've even begun to outlive our mentors, albeit prematurely. The world we grew up in has turned a cold shoulder to us. Gone are the days of Superman and Batman patting us on the back, assuring us that everything would work out.

We're beginning to see that everything won't work out - not always. Maybe that's a lesson that we're meant to learn, but that doesn't make it any easier. The world is testing us, and it feels increasingly more difficult to succeed. Sure, we have each other, but we really don't. Kara is gone. Bart has withdrawn into himself. Tim is dealing with yet another hardship in his life. Rose is fighting feelings of isolation. Cassie, though she insists otherwise, is burying a pain deep inside her. In fact, Zach seems to be the only one of us left that isn't emotionally scarred beyond all salvation.

Me? I wish I knew where to start. Actually, I know exactly where to start. Cassie. It all begins and ends there. I always promised her that I would never hurt her, and I did just that. If I can't even stop myself from hurting the one person who means the world to me, who's safe? I'm so afraid of spiraling downward into a world where I hurt everyone around me until I'm utterly alone. Then again, solitude seems to be my lot in life. I'm going to outlive them all. That's my greatest fear. I don't deal with it often, but - with all the death - surrounding us, that sad reality rears its head again.

No matter what, I will outlive them all. Tim, Zach, Rose, Cassie, the whole world. They're only human. I don't know how Kal deals with this ever-present threat of being utterly alone. He already knows what that feels like. He's lost one home. What will happen when he loses another? How can he just put on a happy face and kiss Lois goodbye every morning when he knows that one day he'll stand at her funeral? That's why I can never be Superman.

More and more, as life's adversities pound upon me, I remain standing somehow. This prompts everyone to assure me that I'm following in his footsteps. But I know that can't be true. Kal handles everything so well. He carries the weight of the world on his shoulders, and he never complains. Obviously, I can't know what he's thinking, but he doesn't appear to be so wracked with fear and uncertainty as I am. I'm not Superman. I never will be. I have his genes. I bear his symbol. But those alone do not make the man.

I don't know how I got here. I don't know how I became the person, sitting on the edge of his bed, that I am today. What happened to the guy on the boardwalk, his girlfriend's arms around him and a smile on his face? Was that ever me? He seems so faraway now.

"Knock, knock?"

Still holding the picture, I look over my shoulder to see Cassie in the doorway. Like me, she hasn't gotten out of her funeral clothes yet. Somehow, through the mourning colors and the wheelchair, her beauty continues to shine through. It astounds me.

"Whatcha doin'?" Cassie asks casually, looking at my hands.

I place the picture back on my dresser and shrug. "Just thinking," I answer simply. It's so much more than thinking, but I don't want to burden her with my inner feelings. That's my cross to bear.

"I know today was a rough day," Cassie admits. She rolls down to the foot of my bed and sits in her chair next to me. Looking me in the eyes, she continues, "But they're not all going to be like this."

"I know."

"This is just something that we all have to deal with in our own way, y'know?" she asks rhetorically. "And I know 'strong and silent' has always been your style, but I'm here to listen to you."

I close my eyes for a moment. "Thank you," I respond sincerely.

Smiling, Cassie reaches out and takes my hand in hers. We don't need to say anything more. The comfort of our interlaced fingers tells us all we need to know. And just for a fleeting moment, I suddenly feel much better about the future. I realize, looking at Cassie and seeing the genuine concern in her eyes, that I'm not really alone. And for a moment, I think I gain some insight into Kal's head. Sure, Cassie won't be here forever. But she's here now.

And, for what it's worth, that's all I need.

Character you would like to play:
[BLACKOUT]Black Manta[/BLACKOUT]

Powers and Brief Origin (provide at least two sentences):
As a child, the boy who would grow up to become the villain known to the world only as Black Manta suffered from severe autism and was grossly mistreated for years at Arkham Asylum, where his condition allowed for his only source of comfort to come from freezing ice water, to the astonishment of the experimenting doctors. The boy was eventually cured of his autism, only to have violent psychoses take its place. Following his escape from Arkham, the boy would take his fascination with the water and the sea to new heights as he set out to rule it, and anything under its waves, for himself.

Not technically possessing any superpowers, Black Manta relies on technology to fight his battles. A skilled combatant and scientist, he wears a suit sporting advanced weaponry, such as lasers, rockets, poisons, and enhanced strength. Manta gets around by way of his flying/submersible "Manta Ship," a jetpack, and advanced scuba gear built into his suit.

Group your character is aligned with (if applicable):
Manta Men, usually.

Write two complete sentences using proper English grammar. One to explain what you plan to do with the character you've chosen. The other to explain why you've chosen this character. (i.e. What are your goals? Will you be doing anything different with the character than is usually seen?):
I'm planning to show why Black Manta is the badass of the seven seas by looking at some Clint Eastwood performances for inspiration on how Manta will behave... albeit Manta will be more evil. I chose the character because I'm looking to play a new type of villain, and Black Manta is an evil scuba diver; what's not to like about that?

[BLACKOUT]Well this is just f**king dandy.[/BLACKOUT]

After his last battle with Aquaman, having to come back to those whom he owed large sums of money with his tail between his legs... let's just say that the scourge of the seven seas was not greeted very warmly. He could feel that several of his ribs had been cracked in the beating that he had been subjected to, and his shoulder had been dislocated before his captors' medics had popped it back into position. "These are just the warmups. He needs to be in one piece when he sees what's really coming to him," is what they had said to each other. "This is certainly a step down for you, isn't it?" they asked their unresponsive captive.

It was another session of closed fists and hard boots before the prisoner finally spoke. Grimacing through a third cracked rib and a broken nose, he spit out a wad of blood and laughed.

[BLACKOUT]"I gambled and I lost. Whoops. My actual mistake was coming back to ask for more funding from you guys. Sure, my face won't be so pretty after this is done, but the only real price I'm paying for this screwup is that I'm going to have to slaughter every last one of you, depriving me of one more corporate backer.[/BLACKOUT] Despite his not-so subtle warning, he was still subjected to more torture for days on end. No other warning was given.

[BLACKOUT]I'm Black Manta and I'm not putting up with this s**t for much longer.[/BLACKOUT]
