The Wrestling Thread Worked Its Butt Off To Get Where It Is Today. - - Part 74

I actually had a list of names that included Buddy Peacock and Lloyd Bonaire.

I think I can speak for the entire Wrestling Thread in saying those names are awesome, and they should have gone with them! :D

A couple head shots to lower the number of "kidney" shots won't do anything serious to anyone. It'll at least bring in something more than "kidney" shot after "kidney" shot.

And to say it only amuses the "easy fans" is quite a silly thing to say. Hell, you could say that about any weapon being used. It still grabs attention and not just the "easy fans".

Weapons are the easiest way to get heat in a match. Years ago head shots is something we saw less of but with the rise of gargage wrestling we saw it more. The fact that you want more proves my point. you want something that gets a immediate reaction when they should be limited.

And a head shot isn't going to do anything serious to anyone? Have you not been following the advancments in medical understanding o the issue? ONE concussion is enough. It was three shots to the head (not from a chair though) that ended Bret Harts career. Doing a chairshot properly means it IS going to connect and that does carry a risk of concussion even if the shot is pulled.

Look at what ONE chairshot to the head did to Ken Anderson a while back. You want these guys to risk their long term health...for more chairshots? Concussions are serious. Not sure why you think its worth the risk to increase the possibility of them. As fans we keep on asking these guys to push the limits even when it affects safety and we've seen the consequences. Its not 1999 anymore and sometimes the business has to make changes for long term concerns. A lot of people enjoyed WWF just fine before chairshots became more commonplace.

Some things need to be rethough with growing understanding. I'm sure people said one piledriver won't hurt anyone. Ask Steve Austin that question. We don't really see the move as much anymore. Head, neck, and lower back injuries have ended more wrestling careers than anything. Two of those can be avoided more. A chair shot to the head can affect two of those areas. If you want the shows to be more entertaining why don't you start asking WWE for better booking. Thats a bigger problem than if we see more chairshots to the head or not.

- WWE officials are reportedly pleased with the improvements that have been made to adjust Raw to a three-hour format. Officials reportedly recognize that the three-hour show is a "work in progress" and the company knows they need to find a way to perk up the third hour rating, but they are pleased with how things are going overall.

The company is unlikely to go back to the two-hour format, as USA pays a lot more for the show as a three-hour show.

Three hours is burnout considering they don't even use it all properly. I don't even watch the whole show. Even more of it is repetative now. If those three hours were all used to their fullest it would be different. No excuse not to give midcarders more meaningful material now.

Impact does more with 2 hours of tv a week with its overal roster than WWE does with almost 6 right now. SMS really could become Ryders show since its aimed at a demographic he seems to be popular with and his character can connect with.

According to several reports online, Beth Phoenix has given notice to the WWE that she will be leaving the company. Phoenix's contract is up at the end of the month.
Beth Phoenix was pushed to be a top dominant Diva in the WWE, until she has been relegated to putting other Divas over. Also, with the release of Kharma, WWE Creative had a hard time of finding competition for her. This was supposed to be the "Big Money Divas" feud that WWE were never able to cash in on.

Can we finally stick a fork in the Divas division (enough long hard tools are being stuck in them already)? Beth Phoenix is the best they have and they've marginalized her. She never got treated as badly as Victoria but she's been used so sparringly in such pointless matches that she's lost all momentum. They've embraressed Nattie to the point that she should be insulted.

Kaitlyn AJ and Eve have potential but they've royally dropped the ball with AJ by letting her face heat cool and Kaitlyn is still learning. The rest? Meh. Hopefully Naomi and Aksana get to do more soon. They're good in the valet/dancer role but the divsion needs more depth and those two are athletic at least.

TNA's KO division is at an all time low but with Beth gone from the E TNA's division clearly shines over WWE's even more. They have a real opportunity here. I still think it was a mistake to let Velvet go and not use Sarita enough but TNA has a chance to sign Beth and Kharma and they've instantly got a decent division again. Who here wouldn't want to see a proper Beth/Tara feud where neither is held back and TNA could do the biggest womens match in years in Beth/Kong that WWE failed at. It won't have the big stage/spotlight of WWE but the fans that are interested know we will probably get a better match in TNA.

I'm still waiting on proper big time throw downs between Sarita and Mickie and Sarita and Tara. Dixie, Hogan, etc. don't blow it with Sarita the way WWE has with Phoenix.

I don't know if Buddy Peacock is a good name, but Lloyd Bonaire would be fantastic.

Saturday Morning Slam....Zack Ryder just beat William Regal.

I'm starting to think that maybe the only way to save the Divas division is to do the same thing TNA did when they launched the Knockouts division in bringing in a massive influx of talent. Pony up whatever they have to in order to keep Beth. Bring Kharma back. Get Del Ray up to the roster. Maybe one or two of the developmental girls that are actually good. Finally utilize Natalya and Tamina better. Try and get Lita back on the roster since she's practically there all the time with Punk anyway. Maybe bring in Sky and Love as well. They need to do something big to get interest back into it and probably the best way to do that is get ones who can actually put on matches because that's what actually did it back in the AE.

That is, if they actually care about the division at all, which is iffy at best.

While in Philadelphia, Daniel Bryan was interviewed on Preston & Steve. Here are some of the highlights from the interview.

On how he went from Bryan Danielson to Daniel Bryan: "For years, I wrestled on the independents as Bryan Danielson, which happens to be my real name. So, the creative geniuses at the WWE -- to own the intellectual property -- have switched my name around to Daniel Bryan.

"It could have been much worse because they left it up to me to come up with a list of names as far as what I could have been. I did not come up with Daniel Bryan, William Regal did. I actually had a list of names that included Buddy Peacock and Lloyd Bonaire. [Laughs.]

On being more injury-prone on the independents on the Jerry Lawler incident: "Oh, yeah, I did so much stupid stuff and on top of that, there are no doctors there. Or, not really good ones. For example: the whole issue that happened with Jerry Lawler where he had the heart attack -- Dr. Sampson is an amazing doctor. I think they gave us a statistic that maybe one out of 260 people that go through what Jerry Lawler did make it through it.

"... I'm not exactly sure on the details of it but Dr. Sampson was literally 5 feet away and there's all this emergency staff and all kinds of stuff. So, you have the best medical staff there. On top of that, we have trainers and masseuses at television.

"So, if you have injuries and stuff, they kind of take care of you. On the independents, you don't even have a shower. You're driving 200 miles all sweaty, still in your spandex. You're huddled next to two other dudes, also in spandex. [Laughs.]"

On being a smaller wrestler, wrestling much bigger men: "I actually detached my rhetina against this 350 pound Japanese man who was punching me in the face. But the first time I was in there with Big Show, I really had the feeling of being a helpless baby.

"Before I was ever signed with WWE, I was doing a tryout wih them in 2005 or something like that. My friend Brian Kendrick was just standing outside the ring. Big Show was in the ring, reaches over, grabs him by the wrists and lifts him up like it was a lateral raise over the top rope and sets him in the ring.

"Granted, Brian Kendrick was only 175 pounds. But, when you think of lat-raising that...I lat raise maybe 25 pounds and it's tough. I'm doing my sets at the gym like, 'Ahh, I'm so strong!' And then there's Big Show who is lifting a human with one arm over the top rope."

On being vegan and having to ditch veganism while on the road: "When I got signed by WWE in 2009, I had a litany of health issues. So, my doctor recommended that I go vegan. ... Oh, my gosh, it's so tough. The doctor who had me do it gave me a lot of books. 'Read this, read this, read this, because especially for your needs, you're going to need a lot of nutritional help.'

"Actually, I just recently stopped being vegan because I developed a severe soy intolerance. When I'm at home, I still eat vegan because it's easy to do stuff at home when you're making it yourself. But the only vegan stuff at a lot of places is tofu stuff, all soy-based products. I need protein. [Laughs.]

On his previous health problems when he first signed with WWE: "Because I grapple all the time and you're always against mats and stuff like that, I had three different staff infection in 2009. And that's not common. There are people who grapple every bit as much as I do or more and not getting those staff infections. I just have a really weak imune system.

"The idea was, 'OK, meat, cheeses, milks, all that kind of stuff, is every difficult for your body to digest. You're using energy to digest that.' By eliminating that and eating easier-to-digest food, you're using more of your energy to fight off bacteria. And it worked.

"I felt great until probably four or five months ago and, all of a sudden, I just kept getting sick all the time. So, I went into my doctor. ... Apparently, soy is -- even organic soy -- it's so processed and so a lot of people develop soy intolerance especially from over-consumption. I was having a lot of soy."

On his "preparation for the apocolypse": "Some of the guys have been giving me a little bit of crap because I just bought 300 pounds of freeze-dried meat. I've been preparing for this dooms day scenerio. [Laughs.] It last for like 25 years. I see everybody here is just shaking their heads at me. [Laughs.] ... Actually, I'm not doing it because I think the apoloclypse is coming or anything like that but just with the hurricanes and stuff like that.

"They say you should have a month's worth of food set aside and five days of water. The 300 pounds is a little excessive but the justification is that I own a home in Washington State. Which is not realistic to live at when I'm on the road because traveling out of Seattle is a nightmare. So, I live in San Diego, so I have 180 pounds of freeze-dried food in one place and 120 pounds of freeze-dried food in another.

"So, you know, I'm... just ready. [Laughs.] Nothing weird about that, I'm just ready."

On whether or not he is single: "I am in a relationship with a former diva, yeah. One of the Bella Twins, Brie Bella. Yeah, much better than I should have done."
That was a hilarious read.

What. The. ****.

Saturday Morning Slam. Does more need to be said?

Chair shots to the head need to occur more. Chair shots to the "kidney" or stomach area is overplayed.

They stopped doing it for a good reason though. Now if they want to bring back blood I'm all for it.

I think I can speak for the entire Wrestling Thread in saying those names are awesome, and they should have gone with them! :D

I second this

Considering the risks its not worth it. I don't want these guys having long term issues just because of crap like that so I can get off on it. There are better ways to entertain than garbage wrestling. Doesn't take nearly as much skill to swing a chair compared to a truly great wrestler and what he can do. Besides chairshots were used to amuse the easily amused when guys didn't feel like putting in the effort any other way. A rare chairshot to the head is more effective. When you see them more the whole action is watered down.

People gasped when HHH cracked Takers head with that chair at Mania a few years ago. It was far more potent because we didn't see it much. Thats how it should be and thats when it works best.

So I take it your not a fan of Hardcore wrestling. I'll admit I wasn't a fan of barbwire matches and the really extreme stuff but WWF toned it down enough for me to enjoy it.

It's a weird thing. I like to see wrestlers do crazy stunts but not if it's going to cause them serious injuries. I'm glad Foley retired when he did or else he could have deteriorated. There's only so much a person can take and the last thing anybody wants is another casualty.
So banning the chairshot to the head was done for the right reasons. I know people were used to seeing it but as you said , It's not worth the risk. Also I agree that doing something every once in a while is much better than pulling it out of the hat every night. A chairshot to the head didn't mean that much when it was done all the time. That's why Rock had to lay several into Foley's head at the (99?) Rumble.

I'm the same way about blood matches. I want to see it back but not for every PPV.

Curious, has anyone here been to a live WWE match? I got two floor tickets to Hell In A Cell, that's how I plan on kicking off my vacation haha. :D

Not sure what to really expect.

Well, if we get Punk vs Cena in the Cell it could be pretty sweet. That rivalry is this era's Austin vs Rock or Hart vs Micheals.

Awesome man, I think I'm going to Hell In A Cell also.

I would pay good money to watch a Scobey Trumpet match!

I've never been to a PPV but, I've been to 2 episodes of Raw, one SmackDown, and a couple house shows. Word of warning, though. Depending on where your floor seats are, you may not be able to see anything. I have 4th row ringside behind JR and Lawler once when they were in D.C.. 1st row ringside was the Washington Redskins. When they stood up, I couldn't see s***! I'd still love to be there, though! You have to post some live pics from the show!

Most definitely will :D I am a little worried about not being able to see anything. I'll try and get some good pics. Anyone know which superstars will be at HIAC? (Besides Punk, Cena, Daniel Bryan, & Sheamus.)

Any idea what part of the arena you're in? I know when I had the close seats, I was able to hold my camera over my head and let the auto-focus do the work. I have some nice pictures, too.

I'm just guessing but Kane, Del Rio, Miz, Ryback, Orton, and Ziggler should be there considering the way the storylines are going.

Yes, and it's a very different experience than watching it on tv. I always have a good time when I go, even if the matches and segments aren't that great.

Have a good time man! :)
