For all those who say that Lang only plays the sinister villain, I liked him in the short-lived Terra Nova series. For those who haven't seen it, he played a tough, no-nonsense military man with plenty of secrets. Sounds like Cable to me...

Even though I think he'd be great as Cable, I think it'd be better to go with a slightly younger actor if they really are thinking franchise. Taking a few suggestions from kasjan, I'd go with his lineup (changing up the casting for the female characters though):

    Cable - Gerard Butler
    Deadpool - Ryan Reynolds
    Sunspot - Adan Canto
    Warpath - Booboo Stewart
    Domino - Michelle Rodriguez
    Psylocke - Janet Montgomery

Gerard Butler is more like Wolverine to me than Cable. I just don't see him as Cable.

It's a bit of a stretch, I understand that. But if X-Force is a real attempt at a franchise, I think Butler is a better choice than someone like Lang or Neeson. If it's a one-off movie, then I'd go with one of those two in a heartbeat.

Others have pointed it out, but if X-Force does become a franchise then casting Lang or Neeson as the lead action hero poses some problems. They both just turned 61... even if the film is fast-tracked for 2015, a potential trilogy of films might not finish until they are close to 70. I'm not sure either guy can maintain a level of fitness that it would take to portray Cable believably at that age.

I like Butler for Cable because he's very capable in action movies (300 is a great example of what he'd bring to the role) and he's young enough that a franchise works for him. Plus, with the team dynamic he wouldn't need to carry the movie either - especially if you fill around him with people like Ryan Reynolds & Michelle Rodriguez, as well as a high-profile actor for a lead villain. You need enough recognizable names to bring people to theaters, which seems to be part of the reason Pacific Rim is suffering (it's not the entire reason, but it's a factor).

If it was for one movie, my first choice would certainly be Stephen Lang. But I think we all would like to see this stretched out over several films & I'm not sure that I'd buy him in the role near age 70. Just my thoughts and I'm sure others will disagree.

Does Neeson show ANY signs of slowing down, cause if he is, I must of missed them? The man looks the same today as he did in BB (which was in 2005).

He's Liam Neeson, he does everything gracefully (and badass, there's that too).

If they are going for British Asian Psylocke then Gemma Chan is my pick (BBC Sherlock, Doctor Who, Fresh Meat, Submarine and Shanghai).

She looks good (don't know if she can act though). Chloe Grace Moretz as Boom Boom, Rooney Mara as Domino.

I think Kattee Sackhoff would make a pretty solid Domino. She's can play that type of bad ass near perfection. Basically plays her as Starbuck. Just needs the black hair...

I like the ideas in this thread. Lang would be awesome although he is quite old.

As far as the team goes, although Uncanny X-Force's team was badass and I would love to see Archangel, Psylocke and Fantomex, I want to see the original X-Force volume 2 roster of Cable, Cannonball, Domino, Boom-Boom, Shatterstar, Sunspot, Warpath.

Ideally I would replace Shatterstar with Deadpool but it will be interesting to see who they actually pick and who they cast.

On a side note, I know we're getting tired of Wolverine but he's proven to be a box office hit and I would rather see a long-term X-Force project with possible crossovers and sequels instead of one film. If Wolverine is the difference between them two then I would also include him.

if a Captain America movie was a decent hit, there is no point to think an X-Force with a pretty solid cast wont do the same or even more.

Wolverine isnt really needed. No X-Men movie with him has reached 500m, so it wont be different with X-Force with Wolverine as a guest.

He is storywise if it's Uncanny X-Force, which has been name dropped a few times from the writer now. He's been a leader of of X-Force for awhile.

But yeah, I don't think he needs to be in an X-Men film in order for it to be a success.

He doesn't, there are plenty of great characters that are being shafted in favor of Wolverine/Hugh, if Fox really wants to build its own universe they're gonna have to have faith and interest in developing characters that aren't Wolverine.

Yeah they need other characters developed bad. Uncanny X-Force is about Logans team though. If they want to adapt that story it's clearly branching from his role in the X-Men and he is an essential character to that story since he formed it. Nothing wrong with that imo.

There are two team leader candidates here. Logan or Cable. Both would be fine. Depends on what story they want to tell.

I'm not on the Wolverine hate side, but even if I was it would be very difficult to say Logan shouldn't have a role here if they go with a Remender or Yost/Kyle take. He's the leader. He is not required for every X-Men story or the success of other films, but there is def a role for him to play in X-Force. If not now then certainly down the line.

Well Iron Man used to be less popular than Superman and Spider-man so anything can happen.

Wolverine cane appear in the film (I have no problem with that). He just shouldn't be the focus.

Thor or Iron Man (or even Captain America to some degree) weren't particularly A-list until Marvel just took the leap and made their movie's either.

Plus, X-Force is one the more popular X-Men teams from the comics, especially the incarnation with Cable as the leader. Fox is going to have to take the leap at some point and start making more movies other than X-Men proper.

    X-Force is a good start.

Guardians of the Galaxy is even more obscure than X-Force, as is Ant-Man.

Captain America, Iron Man and Thor were at least used in the cartoons and videogames. And before Captain America came out in film, I've seen shows used his name as a reference just like with Hulk.

And X-Force is coming from FOX and not Disney, I'm pretty sure FOX will market this as another X-Men spin-off and I'm not afraid some people will just see this as "X-Men light" or another mutant team with a different name.

Marvel may market GOTG as Avengers in space, that doesn't mean that the actual film will be that way (same with X-Force). It's smart business strategy to capitalize on a hugely successful property in order to sell a more obscure property.
