Well unless you really know what ur doing(and don't mind having ur warranty voided) it won't be.

that's why I think I'll either wait till they come out with a bigger HDD version.

or else take the chance and just use external storage.

I probably won't be making a decision until closer to the holidays, so who knows.....they may announce something by then ( or at least drop hints ).

Damn the new games with gold on One still aren't up. C'moooon MS!

Yea its entirely possible, but do you personally really need a large HDD? You've stated you won't go digital, so why do you really need much more than 500 gigs?

I won't be getting an external HDD until I start running out of space, but with the 10 plus games i plan on getting from now, until November, ill have that internal HDD maxed. I think ill snag like a 2 TB external or something. Id assume theyre not too pricey.

hmmm......that is true. I don't plan on going all digital. though there will be some digital games I'd want to dl ( like Killer Instinct ).

it's just that.......you have to install the game data. And those are often 40-50g per game.

So, after about 4 or 5 games, you'd be using up a lot of the HDD space. And I heard the X1 OS takes up quite a bit of space, so you only have around 300g or so available.

I supposed I can always uninstall the game data for games I'm not currently playing and just keep it at maybe 2-3 games max at a time.

idk........I'm still going to wait till closer to the holidays cuz I'm sure there will be some Black Friday or XMAS deals.

Well, the most recent games iv purchased aren't that big. In fact, the majority of them are around 20 gigs, even large open world games like Watch Dogs aren't very big, file size wise. Not saying that will be the norm, but I only have a few games that are around 50 gigs, both for my X1 and PS4.

Yea Id absolutely wait if there is nothing you need right now. There is almost zero doubt that there won't be some sort of BF deals or bundles or something come the holidays.

ah, thanks. Most games on the PS4 aren't that big file wise either.

it's just that with the PS4, I know I can upgrade my HDD later if I need it.

but then, perhaps just hooking up an external storage would be easier than unscrewing stuff and swapping out a HDD.

There are 5 games in fall that I'm definitely getting (4 them digital) and probably another 5 if they have good WOM. Only using 13% of my storage as is but will definitely need it after this holiday. Just waiting for a 4 TB External HD to hit the price point I want before nabbing it.

Yea I can see the benefit of both and if I had my way, the X1 would allow both options, but going the external route is deff 'easier'. Ya just plug it up and go rather than have to open up your console. Im just glad storage won't be an issue this gen. Last gen, even though I didnt do much downloading, storage was an issue for my 360. This go round tho, not so.

And unless an internal HDD is significantly faster, I don't see the advantage. It's a lot easier to plug in an external than unscrew your console to access your older content.

To follow up with my last post and again im not saying these sizes will continue to be the norm but the current games I have downloaded and their install sizes are such

Assassins Creed IV(with all DLC) - 26 gigs
Killer Instinct( w/ DLC) - 6.8 gigs
Max - 2.9 gigs
Sniper Elite 3 - 19.6 gigs
Amazing Spider-Man 2 - 9.9 gigs
Titanfall - 19.2 gigs
Battlefield 4 (w/ DLC) - 47.4 gigs
MGS: GZ - 4.7 gigs
Ryse(w/DLC) - 36.9 gigs
Strider - 3 gigs
Thief - 21 gigs
Watch_Dogs - 20.4 gigs

That takes up 60.8% of my total storage leaving me 143.9 gigs left. And all of those save for ACIV, Ryse and WD are digital titles. I do expect games like the Witcher or Batman to be much larger than a lot of these though.

The advantage is obvious as its something less cluttered around. Its never been difficult to replace a HDD on a Sony console. They've made it fairly simple. If one is going to upgrade their HDD then they need to do it close to when they get the console bc it becomes more of a pain down the line once you've had a lot of stuff installed bc you will have to download/install all that again. Id imagine its faster on the PS4 but I remember it taking hours/days on the PS3 depending on how large your drive was. External is much easier to manage in that regard as you can just backup stuff you aren't actively using and plug it in when you do

those sizes don't seem too bad and seem comparable to PS4 sizes.

yeah. there are definitely advantages to either situation.

right now, I don't have much on my PS4, so I'm actually considering upgrading to a 1tb HDD and then putting the 500gb into my PS3.

y'know.....before all the big games hit starting in the fall......lol.

Wait can the One support two external HDD's? Here i thought it only had one (extremely poorly placed) USB port.

I thought it had 3 USB ports.

and yes it can support 2 externals from what I've read.

I only ever saw one... Huh.. And I HATE that they are on the back of the system.

I think its great that it has back USB ports. Thats perfect for accessories such as the camera and USB drives.

wish the PS4 had more USB ports or the ports in the back or side instead.

one thing I don't like about the PS4 design when it come to the 2 front USB ports is that the casing sticks out, so that narrows the "width" of the opening. as a result, the casing on some USB sticks may be a bit too thick to fit.

I would have preferred if it had at least two on the front.. More so for the controller. My One is in an entertainment stand and it's a PITA to constantly reach back there and guess.

I hate that it only has two myself. The original PS3 had 4 and I loved it. They've since scaled back and I cant imagining it adding that much to cost.

I can get that. Why not just keep your USB cable plugged in all times? Is there really a reason why you need to detach it? If my PS4 had back ports, I wouldnt remove it. I only remove it bc I hate things sticking out of the front. Without seeing your setup, I imagine you could just leave the cable in, set it aside and only extend it out when you want to connect it to your controller

That's actually the first thing I noticed about it, was there was no USB in the front. There's one on the left side, but it's in an awkward place. Either way, kinda lame that they didn't put at least one in the front.

Mostly because I use the One charge cable to also charge my ds4.. Since that stupid cord that came with the PS4 is so tiny..If that damn thing actually held a charge for more than a day it wouldn't be so much of a problem. I even have it "dimmed."

Agreed. No front port does seem odd. To have one on the side instead seems odder.

yeah the DS4...lol. I have a mini to micro usb adaptor that I have that I just use on normal USB cord. I also have one from my tablet keyboard

Theres a USB port on the left hand side of the console, right near the corner of the machine.

Whenver I get a larger HDD, ill use one of those ports on the back, that way I can keep the HDD out of sight, less clutter.
