The Xbox One - Part 7

wow, the Ps4 costs over a grand in brazil, that IS insane. everything else must be super expensive as well. I guess that's one territory where the xbone would win lol

so, in reading up on how to upgrade my PS4 and PS3 hdds and researching various hdd options, I'm starting to realize what many of you have said here.

while upgrading the PS4/PS3 drives doesn't seem to be too complicated............it's much easier to plug in an external hdd. no taking things apart. no messing with the internal components or worrying you might damage your system. no fuss. just plug it in and use it. :o

so....iow........I probably should have just kept my X1 and free copy of Destiny. :csad: :waa:

oh me of such little faith...........:halo:

do external hard drives cost the same though?

they are usually cheaper than internal drives for the same amount of storage.

for example, I see portable 2tb external drives going for $120 at BB. the only internal 2tb drive at BB ( that I see ) is $170.

yeah. so then I guess the only disadvantages may be that it is not as aesthetic (having another brick next to your tv setup) and there may not be as much software support which complicates its use.

oh yeah. having another device dangling out ( more wires, too ) and taking up more space is the big disadvantage.

that's why I was leaning towards replacing an internal drive. but, it is much more convenient to just hook up an external drive to the back of the X1. plus, the X1 can support 2 external drives, so that gives you more flexibility in terms of storage space. much more than you'll ever get with an internal drive.

for example, you could hook up two 2tb externals, giving you 4.5tb of storage ( 4tb + 500gb ). of course, you'd have less than that for actual use ( probably a little under 4tb ). but still, that's way more than you could ever get currently with an internal drive. and you can add the 2nd 2tb drive later on if/when you need it.

and a drive like this is pretty slim and sleek:

Honestly, 500 GB should be enough for my needs. It's not like you can't put the games back on if you need to.

Though honestly, I do really miss plug and play. With every damn game now, you need to wait at least ten minutes. With some it's more like half an hour.

Granted, I don't really mind it that much in the long run, but some times, I really miss the days of carts.

Yep, carts were awesome. Although voice activated digital would be even better if it were affordable and you had space to have your entire collection permanently installed/downloaded

carts? what are these carts?

and yo raven x it can't be that bad, my cousin has a external hard drive in his living room he just keeps it behind the tv, likely where the power brick of the xbone is for most gamers too.

question: does the Ps4 support external HDs? if not, is it supposed to be a feature included in 2.0?

At present it does not. I have yet to hear anything about support for them.

yeah. the PS4 doesn't currently support external drives.

there hasn't been any official word from Sony about it. but, just like when people have asked for media playback and folders for content organization, they've said "pay attention to those features."

so, that implies they are working on it.......but who knows when it will actually come out.

If digital pricing comes down enough I'll be getting a hard drive like this. As big as possible. I want to be able to put films on there as well as a complete game collection, no redownloading/reinstalling ever again. Then I'll get rid of all physical except for cases of the best games to put on my shelf for decorative display, won't even need the discs.

with the X1, as it stands now, I believe you can't put media files on an external file that's formatted for use with the X1. only games and apps.

hope they change that in the future, because it would be nice to have all your files on one external drive.

and I can never go all digital. if nothing for the simple fact that you can't resell/trade in digital content ( though Gamestop has expressed interest in "used DLC" ).

Well, to put it in perspective, the PS3 came with a 40 and 60 GB HDD.

Now 500 is the bare minumum.

Come the PS5 and the... Xbox Two? we might see it come with like a 8 TB HDD.

Or maybe they'll finally make SSDs the standard.

I just hope MS can stay in the game long enough for the next Xbox.

and I hope they don't repeat the same mistakes they made when first unveiling the X1.

don't want to see the X1 become another Saturn or Dreamcast.

I wouldn't mind so much about not being able to trade in if this was reflected in the digital price. And if prices were much less then I could get films on X1 so that I could use the voice activation to watch them and switch between them on the fly (for e.g. to watch all the best scenes in the Marvel movies or the Star Wars films in one sitting.

I still think the Xbox One will do alright in the long run. It's recovered mostly from its botched launch.

Now it just needs some damn good games.

It's crazy how fast it has moved. The discussions people had at the beginning of last gen about how much space they'd need are laughable now. The lowest size 360 would probably not even be able to store all the content for 1 game like Battlefield 3 including all DLC & updates. And next gen games are so much bigger, who knows how large PS5 games will be. If they're in 4k then 8TB isn't going to be enough for me. :woot:

and more killer deals like the free game one.

hope they do that again before the Holidays.

or else have some really great BF/XMAS deals.

still holding out hope for some kind of standard 1tb Halo MCC bundle.

even if they offered that at $500, that would pretty much solidify me getting an X1 this year.

They have a lot of games this gen compared to last. Really looking forward to Quantum Break but the old favourites Halo & Gears I think will be better than ever and have a big influence on the gen. Games like Destiny disappointing are leaving the way open for old favourites to continue to rule on multiplayer.

it would be nice if digital versions of games were $10-$20 cheaper. even $5 cheaper would be a start.

we're not paying for the cost of the physical discs and packaging and shipping, so why should we pay the same price for the digital version?

guess we're paying for the "convenience" and immediacy of being able to download the games right to our consoles without going to a store or waiting for it to be shipped.
