The Xbox One - Part 7

That has a lot to do with it, but also because most of my buddies that I gamed on the 360 with now have X1's.
Most of mine now have too with the rest expected to by the beginning of 2015. Halo 5 is going to be huge! I also have a lot of guys on my friends list who I haven't talked to or played with in quite a while but when the next Gears game comes out everyone will likely be back (as they were mostly Gears players in the 1st place).

wonder if it opens up the possibility to play PC games on the X1.

like, say, Guild Wars 2 or something. so, if a PC game runs on Windows, it will run on the X1, since it shares a common OS.

maybe? perhaps?

that probably won't happen, but if it did, it would open up a whole new market of games that can be played on the X1.

If Windows 10 works the way it should, then it should be able to detect the type of input you have which if they give the Xbox One mouse and keyboard support it would open up all sorts of opportunities.

Arrrggghhhh I can't open the link. What does it say? This affects me a lot!

Microsoft Corp. could finally unleash Windows apps on the Xbox One. The company is bringing the core of Windows 10 to the Xbox One, allowing developers to bring apps and games from Windows Phone and PCs to Microsoft's latest console.

The update for the Xbox One will arrive sometime in 2015, the company said Tuesday. Microsoft said "Windows 10 will run across an incredibly broad set of devices,” some with 4-inch screens, others with 80-inch screens, as well as those without a screen that "primarily use [a] controller/gesture" interface.

Windows 10 on Xbox One could finally make good on Microsoft's promise to bring Windows apps to the console. Dell originally boasted that "every" Windows app would come to the console before its release, but Microsoft clarified that only "some" would make it. In reality, practically no Windows apps have made it to the console, so far, but Microsoft says that will change next year.

Not every Windows or Windows Phone app will be available for the Xbox One, developers will now be able to make apps that can work -- with a few caveats -- on any Microsoft device. Microsoft said it was “delivering one application platform for our developers. Whether you’re building a game or a line of business application, there will be one way to write a universal app that targets the entire family" with more details on Windows 10 coming “early in 2015.”

The way the apps will be able to work on different devices with several different hardware configurations is that Microsoft structured Windows 10 with a common core of services capable of running underneath any device, from Xbox One, Windows phones, tablets to PCs. On top of those services is a user-interface that will vary on the device’s form factor.

The apps that will be able to run on Xbox are made to run on multiple devices, said Steve Kleynhans, vice president and research analyst at Gartner. Those so-called "universal Windows" apps are the ones Microsoft previously called "metro," and while PCs will still be able to run "legacy," or traditional Windows programs like Adobe Photoshop and Excel, which won't come to the Xbox.

A number of new apps in the Windows Store are “universal” apps -- ones with a small icon indicating their cross-device support, that will eventually run on the Xbox One. Developers will still have to deal with the user interface issues that would come from porting an app made for a 5-inch touchscreen smartphone to the Xbox One, but the concept is that Microsoft will allow users to play any game on any platform: the company’s long-term goal. Microsoft is also reportedly working on allowing people to play full resolution Xbox One games on lower-powered PCs and tablets through Internet Explorer.

“Strategically, Windows 10 is the right move for Microsoft. It plays on their strengths. They’ve got a lot of talent when it comes to building operating systems, and this move allows them to focus that talent and build one product instead of several,” Kleynhans said. “This allows them to build an excellent operating system all the way through, that runs on any kind of device.”

On PCs and tablets, the new operating system will largely do what many had expected from the Redmond, Washington-based software company: The best features of Windows 8 are coming to a desktop more like Windows 7.

Wow that's exactly what I've wanted for years! Awesome news.

Thanks for posting.

That would be great. What I also really want is like what they had with GFWL but a system properly executed and popular with pc gamers so that you could play pc games and link everything to your Xbox profile. Cross platform play & chat with your friends on Xbox would be the ultimate (although even 360 & X1 don't have cross console party chat). If they could do that one day I'd get the biggest beast of a pc (already have a decent one) and using it a lot wouldn't mean having to give up on Xbox friends.

I think that we will eventually see cross-platform play between PC, Xbox, and PlayStation IMO.

Wow that would be like a dream. Would the console makers be concerned about losing 2nd console purchases? Might be good news for the wii U in a roundabout kind of way :woot:

It's already happened hasn't it? Didn't at least one of the Rock Band or Guitar Hero games do this?

I think Final Fantasy XI allows cross-play between the Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 2 versions. And Sony allows cross-play between some PlayStation 4 and PC titles, but Microsoft currently doesn't allow PC/Xbox One cross-play.

so, if they are going to offer holiday promos or new bundles ( other than the Sunset and CoD ones ), when do you think MS would announce that?

late Oct. or early Nov.?

Not before the Overdrive / Call of Duty bundle launches.

Though I am beginning to think that Microsoft may just stick to the "get a free game of your choice deal".

But then again, they might pull out all the stops for Christmas.

They're on the war path.

so, prob mid Nov, then.

and it would be nice if they did the free game deal once a week for the next 3 months going into Xmas.

I would laugh if they did a 12 Days of Christmas thing, with 12 free games.

Would anyone here not buy an Xbone?

what.....each day offer a different free game, for 12 days? or offer the free game deal during the 12 days leading up to Xmas?

I admit, I'd be very tempted to get one again. although I'm trying really hard to wait for a standard 1TB model.

ideally, I'd like to wait at least another year before getting an X1.

but, should an extremely good deal come around in the next few months, I might just bite again........

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-ones-d4-never-coming-to-ps4/1100-6422695/

this is the type of feeling I was getting back when the *timed* exclusivity of TR was announced. yes eventually it'll come out for PC, but are we certain that of the same for Ps4? we'll just have to wait and see.

The situation around D4 is totally different. What that article doesn't mention is that D4 was actively funded by Microsoft, I believe. I honestly don't see how you're connecting that to the Tomb Raider announcement. I don't see any similarities in the least. And yes, I am pretty much 100% certain that it will come to the PS4 and possibility the PS3.

Maybe, but I mean as a standard. I didn't think it through properly when I decided to get all consoles going forward last gen. Didn't account for the fact that I still wouldn't be able to play with everyone unless I bought the same game on every platform every time as well. :csad:

D4 is FULLY funded by MS. It won't ever see the light of day on PS4.

Yeah, plus it's a new IP, not a sequel to a multiplat game, and was always advertised as a Xbone game. Not sure what exactly the connection is suppose to be here.
