The Xbox One - Part 7

Yea I haven't had any wireless issues either, but iv switched to ethernet just because I felt it'd give me a boost(it doesnt seem to tho) and my router is right next to my console, so why not?

so, are Avatars still used on the X1?

can you customize your Avatar's look and go to the store to buy "premium" styles like you could on the 360?

It looks like they've abandoned all that stuff. Meaning I don't see an option to customize your avatar nor do i see the avatar store on the X1. Its still there for the 360, but i don't see it for the X1. The avatar isn't displayed anywhere on the console, save for the fact you can use it as your gamer pic.

If I was right next to my router I'd use my ethernet but wireless is usually fine.

yeah......if you're router is right next to the console, going wired makes sense.

but for me, that's simply not an option.

it's funny. on the 360, I didn't care much for the Avatars. but now that I see they're practically nonexistent on the X1, I feel like I'll miss mine......lol.

at least it seems you can edit and buy stuff for your Avatar on the PC. so, if you don't have a 360, you still have that option.

I liked the avatars. I never bought anything, but I liked getting rewards within games. I also liked seeing what goofy things my friends would do with theirs.

there's no way you can use custom pics for your gamerpic, is there?

Nope. The only thing you can customize about your gamer pic is with your avatar. Meaning you can make them do little poses, then snap a picture and use that as your pic.

I hope MS brings back the gamer pics from tv shows, movies, games etc. Either ones we can buy, of which I had a few and then the free ones. I really want a Witcher gamer pic or other based on a franchise im fond of.

ah. I see.

yeah.....I hope they add more gamerpics and the option to buy premium ones.

after all, that would = more $$ for MS.

I've seen the available gamerpics in videos, and they all look a bit too "quirky." although I did spy a cool looking Knight one and a Red, White, Blue Lion one.

My wif-fi works fine with all my other game systems, plus my iPod and phone. It's only with the Xbox One that I've ever had any issue with that. It could be a hardware issue, but since plugging it in fixed most of the issues I had, I feel like it almost has to be the connection. I may get in contact with MS support or something and see if they can help me.

So I just bought a Xbox 360 PC controller and now I hear they're releasing a Xbox One PC controller. I just need to know how does the Xbone controller feel when compared to the 360. I've heard conflicting opinions.

I like it as much if not more. About the only thing that I'm not super fond of is how they did RB/LB. Haven't had to actually use them yet, but they feel really weird

Man controllers are so subjective, you can ask 5 people here and get 5 completely different answers. Try finding an X1 kiosk somewhere and trying out the pad. But really, ur fine with the 360s controller, the Ones just makes some subtle tweaks rather than the drastic changes found in the dual shock 3 to the dual shock 4

I actually had something similar with my Elite 360 model ( the one where you have to buy a separate wireless network adapter ).

about a year or so ago, I changed routers. all my other devices worked fine ( including the PS3 ). but the 360 had trouble consistently connecting to Live.

didn't really affect the performance of the console, just couldn't connect to Live consistently ( it's supposed to sign in automatically ).

although, when I used the console recently, it seemed to work fine.

yeah....the bumpers are a bit weird. I've tried the controller out at store demo stations. The bumper buttons are "sloped" or "angled." so it feels different when you press them. like you have to push them from the side instead of directly on top of the button.

hard to describe.

Don't know if you saw my earlier response to you (a few days ago) spelling out the exact process but MS support are really good nowadays (were terrible in the 1st few years). Best way I've found is to open an internet chat after logging into xbox.com with your gamertag and password.

The Xbox One controller is already compatible with the PC. The recent announcement that they are releasing it for PC seems rather redundant and makes no sense to me bc its not like its including a wireless dongle either. Its exactly the same thing as before but in a new box

Yup, I was trying to explain that in detail in here, and it didn't register with some. You can only press down on the outer parts of the button. If you want to engage the action on the inner parts of the button, you have to push/slide it to the right or left, which isn't nearly the same as a regular button press. It almost always throws off my aim when I'm trying to push/slide the button.

The entire controller is designed around a smaller hand. I find it to be pretty uncomfortable to use after a few hours of use. I never had that problem with the 360. I think the main problem with the design is in the main handles where you grip the controller. It's MUCH smaller of an area to handle, and you can't grip it the same way you could with the 360. I have to almost hold my X1 controller on the lower ends of the handles, in order for my fingers to be able to hit all the buttons correctly. If I try to grip it naturally, my fingers will overshoot every single button. And it doesn't help that the bumpers are pretty much garbage.

I think I understand their design thoughts in making the bumpers like that.

when you grasp the controller, your index fingers curve around the top.

so, I think they wanted the bumpers to be sloped/angled to fit that natural curve of the index fingers.

of course, I haven't spent any significant time using the X1 controller, so I can't tell you which way I prefer.

I just know that it felt weird upon initially trying it and it's definitely something I'd have to get used to.

They did it, because the rumbles in the triggers block the bumpers from having the entire thing act like a button. If you take the controller apart, you'll see. The bumpers work on a hinged system, and a hinged system for a button is a bad design, IMO. Hinged systems should only be reserved for triggers.

what do the rumbles on the triggers do? vibrate and give you feedback?

Yeah, it rumbles in the triggers. The X1 has rumbles in the triggers and the handles. The 360 only had it in the handle area. I mean, if you're into rumbles, I guess it's cool, but I rather have more fluid action in my buttons, instead of my controller rumbling in more spots.

I still have zero issues with the bumpers. X1 controller is the best feeling out there right now, IMHO.

ah. thanks.
