The Xbox One - Part 7

in the past I've been able to use 360 controllers on my Ps3 through adapters. I suppose now with the touchpad the controllers are too wildly different for such a thing to be possible anymore.

say.....do you think MS will run another "free game" deal closer to the holidays?

Yeah, they will. They're behind Sony right now, so they'll do all they can to try and catch up.

I still have zero issues with the bumpers. X1 controller is the best feeling out there right now, IMHO.

The issue some are having with the X1 is that its just designed to be used in a slightly different way than the 360s pad when it comes to those bumper buttons. They're designed to be pressed at the edge of the controller where the bumper meets the trigger and they're designed in a way that makes the distance from the trigger to the bumper shorter, which it absolutely is, in comparison to the 360's. But people are used to using the same motion they did with the 360, which is bringing their finger off the trigger to press the bumper in the middle of the button. In a game like Titanfall im able to throw a grenade by hitting RB without really having to take my finger off the trigger. I can get faster commands with the X1 over the 360. Thats the positives, the negatives are if you refuse to alter the way you use the pad or you have extremely long or thin fingers, that might be more difficult as you'd still want to press the bumper button in the same way you did with the 360's.

Depends on how the game uses the touch pad, if its just used to bring up a map or something, im sure the back button could be mapped to that. I think its moot now tho considering how well designed the DS4 is. Its a great pad, unlike its predecessor.

be nice if it were a monthly deal. like, the 1st or 2nd week of the month and do that until the end of the year. I'm sure that will give them a boost.

I wonder if the Sept deal boosted sales any...........hope so.

and the last go around, aside from Destiny and maybe Diablo 3, there wasn't much for me to choose from for the free game.

but, say they held the deal in Dec, then there'd be more games that interest me that I'd choose: Sunset, Dragon Age, WWE 2K15, Halo, AC, Forza

i like the placement of the joysticks on the xbone controller better. it's better for games like, say fifa.

and the Ds4's predecessor was quite literally the same pad since the original Ps1, minus the analog sticks. and yeah I don't think there'll be an adapter, not because the Ds4 is really popular coz there's a lot of people who think the xbone/general xbox controller is still better, but because they're just too wildly different and expensive to produce.

the touchpad, as of now, is kind of useless. or, it hasn't been used to it full potential yet.

most games that I've played just use it as another button. indeed, it's kind of replaced the standard Select button ( used to pull up maps, menus, etc. ).

but the actual swiping? I'm surprised you can't use it to navigate the UI or move the cursor in the Browser...........would seem like a natural thing to do.

I like both controllers this gen.

I can think of a useful practice for the touchpad.

If they remaster the ME trilogy (which I really hope they do, call me a hypocrite) if you put your finger on the touchpad, it can bring up your powers screen, and then you nagivate through it in a loop like you do in KzSH, then press the touchpad when you've hovered over the power/item that you want.

I don't see a problem with this. In fact I love it. Its four buttons in one which makes for simpler navigation. I hate that they replaced the select button with the share, but I like that the touchpad exists so that functionality is still present

Some games do use it as a cursor to navigate maps. AC did it quite well.

LittleBigPlanet 3 is supposed to utilize and Tearaway will fully embraced it. I think you may want to pay attention to those two titles for interesting and unique uses of it

I love the touchpad. To me, its one of the two best additions to the next gen controllers. The other being the speaker in the DS4

yeah, I'm sure future games will utilize it better.

but I also think it's a no brainer to use to navigate the PS4 UI or move the cursor in the Browser. those 2 things just seem like so logical.......lol.

that would be cool.

Well, I was planning to get an Xbone in the future, but my... experiences with Mumbai, I mean, the PS4 have only made me accelerate that plan.

Someone sell me this thing. I.e. please convince me it's a good idea to get one.

I already like the part about it working.

The X1 can play your media files off of a USB stick. an extremely difficult and high tech thing to do. :o

on a more serious note, here are the Pros and Cons as I see them.

Pros:
1. The X1 is more multi functional than the PS4. TV integration, media playback, Internet Explorer, and other media apps

2. The X1 can multi task with the Snap feature, so you can play games while watching a TV show or browsing IE.

3. MS is way more proactive, consistent, frequent, and open in communicating and releasing updates to the X1 compared to Sony with the PS4.

4. The X1 supports USB 3.0 external drives for storing games and apps.

Cons:
1. The X1 is larger than the PS4 and also has a huge external Power Supply Unit. IOW, its shelf space footprint is larger.

2. The X1 is slightly less powerful, hardware wise, than the PS4 and that has translated to multi plat games underperforming slightly compared to the PS4.

3. The 500GB hdd is not replaceable ( although that's countered somewhat by external hdd support ).

4. Game installs from the disc take longer than the PS4, and take longer before letting you start playing the game.

5. Game saves files are stored on the hdd and automatically to the Cloud. However, as of yet, it doesn't seem like you can back the game save files to an external drive or to a USB stick ( which you can with a PS4 ).

6. Some have said the X1 UI is laggy and freezes. games crash back to the dashboard. games don't start. and other stability issues.

On that last point, though, it's hard to judge and hard to tell how widespread those problems are. after all, you experienced 2 faulty White PS4s, whereas my PS4 largely runs smoothly. so, everyone can have a different experience with these consoles.

so, I know that you can use external drives to increase storage capacity. but, I've also been reading ( and watching ) that transferring and playing your games and apps off of an external drive actually boosts the overall performance of the X1. not just game loading times, but improvements to the UI performance itself.

Here's a vid talking about it:

[YT]PIrvfTfeCp4[/YT]

Is this true? does it really boost the speed and overall performance of the UI itself?

Is it because with all the games and apps running off of an external drive, it frees up more system resources to run the OS/UI from the internal drive?

Yea, if the HDD you get is a good one. Apparently games load faster off of them and like you said, the UI performs better, but theres no issue without an external HDD so really its just gravy for one going to an External.

Haha whats wrong with your PS4 man? There aren't wide spread issues with that console, so whatever issues you are having are just with you, not the majority of PS4 users.

Not the majority, but they're hardly rare. Google auto search, and spending hours on forums full of technical issues made me discover that.

I really don't feel like going into it.

Let's just say putting a penny under it – I was actually told to try this – didn't fix the problems.

Hah lame. I haven't had a single issue with my PS4, but I did have to send my X1 back due to a faulty disc drive like 2 weeks after the thing launched. haven't had an issue since they fixed mine. Altho, the damn thing has started chirping lately. Wonder if i qualify for a new one?

I did read that Microsoft is giving replacements for loud Bones. Probably because they want to keep the notion of their system being less problem prone a thing.

I don't know, maybe I am giving up too easily with the PS4.

What do you mean by chirping exactly?

I think ya are man, these first runs of consoles always have their growing pains.

I don't know how to describe it really, but after the console has been running for an hour or two, theres this faint, 'chirping' sort of noise that i think, is coming from the disc drive. I primarily hear it when im playing a disc based game, which lately has been madden, but last night I was watching TV and i heard it. Madden was in the system, but wasn't running. But it only starts after the console has been running for a long period of time and it doesnt last all that long. I really have no idea what it could be, but if i qualify for a new system, i might take em up on the offer.

Interesting, I did a google search, and the chirping is apparently a common enough issue to be a google suggestion.

Well, I guess I'm just ****ed this generation.

hey thanks!

so, to get that performance boost, is there a certain type or speed of external hdd to get?

would I need to get a 7200 RPM one or would the standard 5400 RPM work?

from what I've read, it sounds like a USB 3.0 drive will be faster anyways than the internal SATA II drive, and that's because the USB 3.0 drive can have a data transfer rate up to 5 Gbps, whereas the internal drive only goes up to 3 Gbps.

so something like this should work?
