In the Homecoming movie, I have no idea.
To semi betray him and create a plot twist? In the comics she was hydra.

In the long run, to take Hawkeye place since there's been this running theme in the MCU about him wanting to take his retreat. He could be a mentor at first (Clint seems bonds often with kids in the mcu, like he did with Pietro) and then she would 100% replace him.
The actor isn't a fan favorite so that could be a way to replace him and maybe, Marvel new phase will try to bring new avengers, some will probably match Peter's age.

Maybe Zendaya is Jean DeWolffe, who is not on the police force but instead is a high school mate of Peter's who goes through a "She's all that" transformation and utters the immortal jackpot line at the end. Later on, she gets thrown off the Throgs Neck Bridge by Hobgoblin (who is Ned "Ganke" Leeds) and breaks her neck after being caught by Spider-Man (but not via his webbing but after he swoops down to catch her with his web wings).

I think it comes with the territory and is a bi-product of marvel trying to keep peter younger than he should be.. (most) of his supporting cast moves on.. while peter does not. Every era of spider-man has basically a different supporting cast...

he had his High School Supporting Cast, College, bugle, post supposed MJ death when he lived in an apartment cast.... to modern (michelle, carlie, etc..) then miles has his... there's alot of re-tread in character archetypes.

They still kept things from the source material like...Peter's name is 'Parker'...uh he has aunt may I guess? Peter's crush on Liz. Liz being the popular girl. That's actually canon and MJ wasn't in the same high school as Peter.

It still feels wholly unnecessary. It's sad that they have to keep stealing from Miles' stories when Peter has 10x more characters than he does, many of which have NEVER even been explored in the movies. So the mix an' match crap is annoying. It's like two sides are battling, one wants to make a more faithful adaption of the comics (with classic characters) and the other wants to make a Miles Morales movie.

I think bringing Ganke instead of Harry or MJ makes the movie looks more original and new since they already did MJ and Harry. I mean, remember Sony marketing with tasm? "THE UNTOLD STORY WE NEVER TOLD".
Seems like each time, they aim to have a Spider-man story as new and fresh as possible. So why not taking Miles I wonder.

Btw, I don't think we can have an other Harry so soon and while I don't like it, I think Peter needs a confident in a movie because how is the general audience gonna understand Peter's personal conflicts? In the comics (or the animated series) we have those monologues , in the movie we have a confident as replacement.

Peter had Gwen very early on in tasm. She kinda helped him with personal conflicts and Raimi did the monolgues, which was good but maybe monologues are just too dated to do in 2017. I like the idea of the video diary (not the blog because Peter could never put online all those unmasked videos) but since Ganke is here, I don't see Marvel used that idea anymore :/.

• Those that want a good movie will be pleased.
• That that want a good Spider-Man movie will be pleased.
• Those wanting a good Spider-Man movie that uses/respects/stays-true-to the source will be disappointed.

That's just how I see it going.

• Average moviegoers that attend superhero showings won't care.
• Casual Spider-Man fans that only know stuff from the past films may care but not-a-lot in the long run.
• Hardcore comic-reading and/or following Spider-Man fans will be split over all the deviations/liberties taken, as evident already these past few months.

But Ned is an unknown character to the GA while MJ is one of the most popular character from Spidey so Marvel treatment will be different from Ned who is like...no one.

That's probably why they chose to turn Ned into Ganke and not Harry (or an other major male character) because they could recreate Ned character from scratches while Harry or MJ have a huge history. Like, everyone is complaining because they stole Ganke but no one is complaining about the changes they made to Ned character because we don't really care about him.

I just can't see Marvel suddenly turning one of their iconic redhead, whose nickname is 'red' into a brunette. And this is coming from someone who doesn't trust the mcu.

What if she's nicknamed "red" because she likes wearing red dresses (which she doesn't do at all in the movie)? Maybe that's why they call her that because of her fashion sense (of which she doesn't have any) and she gains a nickname for something that doesn't even happen in the film.

It'd be ridiculous of Marvel to think monologues are dated considering they've used monologues in some of their movies. I just wish they went the Ultimate route where MJ was his confident and knew about his identity early on. This was the idea Feige initially had in mind too. Swap Ganke for MJ

She's probably a mix between MJ and Ult!Kate Bishop (since they're stealing stuff from Miles), basically the love interests of Peter and Miles ...or a new character or an amalgamation of the above.

And I can't believe people are bringing up Michelle Gonzales again, maybe I should bring in articles of Zendaya talking about representation to explain how she would not go for a Latina role, she identifies as black while acknowledging she is biracial, and might I remind everyone Amandla Stenberg went for this role, had she been cast no one would be assuming she was playing Michelle Gonzales, they would be assuming she's a new character because she's the black biracial with the curly afro hair that screams black while Zendaya has "straight hair" which doesn't scream black apparently, so much so it confused people to the race of Zendaya and made them think she was "Latina" even though her name was a big blinking red sign of a clue...

And if this Michelle character was a variation of Gonzales Marvel would more than likely still have cast a Latina, cause mixing the character's personality trait doesn't mean you change one of the few latina characters into another race by casting a non-latina, like what an obvious backlash trap Marvel would have fallen into, I could understand the mental gymnastics people are going through if the character was Asian, b/c Hollywood treats Asian characters and actors like **** but come on now...

Well, I think Zendaya's playing Kate Bishop with a little bit of Deborah Whitman : "Debra is just as smart, possibly smarter, than Peter and maintained a friendly rivalry with him." Which explains why Kate attends a science and Technology School and in the comics, she had a crush on Peter while Peter had a crush on someone else and didn't really noticed her

I didn't say Zendaya would be playing Debra, I said she is gonna be Kate. And a small part of her character will be taken from Debra.

It reminds me of Mary Jane and Gwen, both being a mix of MJ/Gwen in the Raimi and Tasm movies neither of them being 100% truthful to the source material.

It's like...Why Sony does insist so much on creating hybrids?
