I was watching FF the other day and as I just began reading the third FF Essentials TPB, I was really mindful of the way JK drew the Thing. As I watched the film, I noticed that the scene where he says "You know, I used to smoke, he really looked like the Thing to me. And I think it's because you didn't see his teeth. In the JK comics, you never saw the Thing's teeth (if he even had teeth). I know later comic incarnations had him sporting teeth, but I was wondering if anyone thought they should do away with the teeth in the new film to make him look more like the JK version since everyone on here seems to want him to be faithfully adapted to the King's version.

Had to drag my comics out of the arcives, and your right. Never noticed, because wasn't here nor there. And I think it's still a neither here nor there issue. If your speaking from purly the standpoint of how he looked in the early issues, being faithfull to the orig. drawing, then there's more wroung with him then the teeth. They tried to merge the original thing, with the more modern version. A middle ground if you will. But I don't really care if he has teeth or not in the sequel. Just not that big a deal to me. He will never be compleatly faithful to the JK drawing, because to accomplish that, he would have to be cg, and dat ain't happening, nor should it.

Thing teeth? I'm absolutely sure I've seen them drawn before, and, unless my brain's playing tricks on me, I can picture King Kirby panels with them. But now you've got me wondering. If I can find anything I'll post it.

They we're drawn in later issues, but not at the very beginning.

There are a few very specific panels I can picture in which he's gritting his teet or eating and we can see his teeth, but I just did a quick search and I couldn't find the ones I'm thinking of.

And while I know I've seen his teeth, we usually just see that hollow opening, so the costume does definitely look different than that . . . not just the teeth, but also the size and shape of his whole mouth. I don't think there's any way to duplicate that look without very heavy prosthetics or CGI.

I guess it's the original Kirby HULK that I always think of with the jutting jaw and the lower teeth exposed; but check out FF #12, page 10 for a grinning mouth full of THING TEETH! I am sure there are others, but that's the first I've found.

So he had 'em, you just hardly ever saw them. If I remember even Byrne drew him without teeth in the later 100's issues (probably my favorite depiction). I know that more recently, he has been drawn with teeth visibly showing even before the movie came out. I just think he looks better without showing them.

I agree...
