There were a few things that i'm glad MSJ decided to leave out of the movie from JB/GR's comic origin. I either found them too corny or thought they would have slowed the story down a lot, here are mine:

1) Johnny practising Black magic.
2) Johnny and Roxanne being step-related before they fell in love (especially glad they left this one out).
3) Mrs Simpson and Crash Simpson dying seemingly because of Johnny
4) Johnny's vow to Mrs Simpson that he would never ride in the stunt show and Crash thinking him a coward for not riding.
5) The devil having women worshippers who went after Blaze.
6) GR creating a motorcycle out of hellfire.
7) Johnny remaining a stunt rider even AFTER the world finds out he is GR.

These thing's would have made the story very convulted IMO, and though i liked them in the comic, i am glad they are left there and not added to the movie adaptation.

Agree entirely.

Agreed fully.

All of the above. Plus, I like it better that it was his real father he gave up his own soul for, this time around. It made a lot more sense because unlike Crash Simpson's case, the relationship between Barton Blaze & Johnny is a genuine maternal bond between "father & son". It felt more natural that JB would go that far to save a loved one.

^Oh yeah, I didn't notice that. :csad: It would've been great if JB could easily snap a chopper at any place, any time; But then, I've always felt that having a bike that's "not really there" (if you get my meaning) looked rather cheap & kinda awkward. I like the way they made a seemingly sentient bike, instead-- purely solid material & capable of locating GR wherever he goes. The movie bike feels more like a 'loyal friend' to JB, rather than simply being a fabric of his "imagination". Plus, I like the way it transforms along with him. :yay: Shows they have some kind of 'bond', or somethin'.....

Like that approach as well. It seemed that much more logical.

In the original run, the flame based bike worked but onscreen I couldn't see it working. Yes, it would visually but the heritage tied to the cycle made it that much more interesting as opposed to just being Hellfire created.

And it illustrated perfectly MSJ's cool idea of hellfire warping metal.

Yeah i agree, even though Crash raised him from an early age in the comic, i just prefer it that it was someone he was blood related too that he gave his soul for.

I Disagree wholeheartedly with you on that one.
That would've been great if they had done that

I think it would have looked great, but i prefer the idea that he just warps an existing bike into something truly hellish instead.

Yeah, i do prefer it the way they did it in the movie, made the bike seem alive and a loyal servant of JB/GR.

You know as silly as some of these things sound, its still not as silly as a guy dressed in a bat costume or a guy wearing blue and red spandex with an "S" on his chest because he's just "SSSSSuper!"

The fact is if MSJ had his hand with the real origins of Blaze (carnival, black magic, being partly responsible for the death of his parents, his promise to his dying mother, etc) and made something it would have been 10 times more corny. He's a horrible screenplay writer and it showed in the movie. The origins he created for the hidden and Ghost Rider were cool, but he ruined it with his screenplay, so it doesn't matter now really because he made the origin worse.

HOWEVER, under the appropriate and skilled writer, anything silly as a comic book origin can be created masterfully and faithfully and still arouse interest in the character. Batman Begins is a good example of how a rather odd & overdramatic origin can be put into good use and have a reason behind it.

Also I'd like to go on record to say that GR shooting hellfire from his hands and creating the bike would be *****ing sweet to see.

I think MSJ handled the adaptation of the story very well. His origin in the comics is just too convulted. You have his Dad dying, his mother leaving, then Simpsons take him in and he falls in love with his step-sister and then is partly responsible for deaths of both of his adoptive parents. Sorry, but all of this would have taken 2 hours to explain on its own.

IMO MSJ shortened and simplified it very well.

Well the story could have fit in well, it was actually Cage's age that ruined that part. They had to speed up the story because they have to explain why a 40 something (maybe 50 something?) actor has to be the lead role.

If they kept JB young I think it would have been much better and fit the story much better as well. Oh well, I think its meaningless to critique what they left out because we DONT KNOW how it would have been incorporated in a movie...in many instances it could have much better.

^I agree that many parts could have been better, but i do think the origin was done well. The one in the comics is just too convulted. On screen it would seem like they are trying to FORCE you to feel sorry for him.

1) wouldn't of made a difference...
2) Would have increased the gross 100x south of Maryland and 200x in England
3) and 4) same as 1
5) would have been cool IF they were in demon form
6) Should have been there
7) The world never found out he was GR

All in all, even after I bought the DVD the thought is the same. This was a tragic movie. I agree with the postings about MSJ's screenplay writing ability. He should never be allowed to do another movie. Unless its a teletubbies adaptation, in which case he should be the purple one.
