Thinking About Getting Season 1-6

I mean, of course most people would say that. I was just wondering if there were any reasons why I shouldn't.

Being a serious comic junkie and I mean "serious", I thought the show was terrible. :down

Well, a comic is a comic and a TV show is a TV show. How many episodes have you seen?

I've seen people go through the inconvenience of trying to watch a good show for the first time during its worst episodes.. :p

I think if you tried to sit down and watch all the episodes of smallville together in a big chunk, your head would explode with boredom.

Personally, i would only choose a few series to buy, like first (for nostalgia), possibly fourth and maybe fifth/sixth.

if you're a die hard fan, wait for the whole show to finish running its course and get a nice complete box set.

I have seen the first five seasons. I only watched the show in a hope that they would fix what they were doing wrong.

Just buy the first season, see how you like it, then buy or don't buy the rest.

That sounds like an expensive undertaking, the show is so different from season to season that liking Season 1 &2 doesn't mean you'll like Season 3 and so on. I personally like how its changed and grown with the characters, and I think there's something wonderful about each season. I have all the seasons except 6, which I haven't bought yet, and I'm definitely not sorry I own them.

nah wat u need to do is wait for someone to a SMALLVILE season 1 to 7 in 7mins on youtube

Yeah I watched the 10 minute snap shot for all of season 6 and it is pretty good. Says a lot about a show if an enitre season can be crushed into 10 minutes. lol

I say wait & when I say wait I mean in terms of price. I am sure all of the sets will go down to $19.99 like last year around the time Christmas comes around.

Should I go for it?

Pros? Cons?

How is it that somebody with 12 posts has the best advice? That just blows my mind.

TNC, your liking or loathing of Smallville is going to depend on your tastes (obviously.) It's a show that has its greatest appeal among teenagers and young adults, but us old farts (I'm pushing 43 myself) like it too. If you're like every other person who watches the show, you'll probably get attached to one or two particular characters and may come to vehemently dislike another.

Seven (or more) seasons is a LONG time to watch a bunch of characters on their way to a predetermined end that you already know, but that becomes part of the fun. Because they're always making reference to that end, they tantalize and tease you to the point of lunacy. And that's when you know you're addicted. :p

So, I agree with Kii's advice. Just pick up the first season. Watch the episodes in order and give 'em time to sink in. By the end of the first season, you should know if you want to see more. :)

not that expensive actually. seasons 1-5 can be had for only $20 each at most stores.

Season 1 has a fun, old school charm to it with all of the meteor freaks and high school elements.

Season 2 still stands as one of the best (if not the best) season of the show with all of the mythology elements and its collection of fantastic episodes ("Insurgence", "Red", "Rosetta").

Season 3 is....well.....it kinda sucks. But if you can get it for cheap, more power to ya.

Season 4 divided the fanbase with its arcs, but it does have some of the best episodes of the series (albeit, also some of THE worst).

Season 5 is as strong of a season as there has been. Very strong arcs and James Marsters. Can't go wrong.

Season 6 is as good as the show has ever been on an episode-by-episode basis, but the arcs leave a lot to be desired.

Cmill's Final Verdict: Just buy 'em all. :)

Quoted for truth, but I'd make the 5th season the best season even despite the stinkers it had.

Overall, in regards to the quality of individual eps, 6 beats them all out. Only one or two true stinkers out of 22 episodes last season...

Season 1 is meteor freaks, little to no season arc to speak of, just basically one-shot episodes of Clark dealing with each weeks Freak of the Week

Season 2 is the best mythology wise, some great episodes dealing with Clark learning his origins

Season 3 is ok, but if any damage was done to the status quo it would be back to normal by the episodes end

Season 4, once again ok, some cool guest stars, a few too many freak of the week episodes and a lame witch subplot that ran through the season.

Season 5's first half was good, but once Reckoning hit, the season took a nose dive

Season 6 was crap, maybe 2-3 good episodes, but mostly it sucked.

Here's my opinion... If you are even considering it...

Get them ALL! You won't regret it

No, seriously. I did. And it was one of the best entertainment investments I have ever made.

I had never watched Smallville until last fall. At my boss' recommendation I rented Season 1. After watching it, I was hooked. I went out and bought the whole series.

It was so GREAT to watch one show after another... no commercial breaks.... no days or months in-between cliffhangers. And the best part was... watching all the episodes in order really gives you a feel for the story and character development. It makes all the difference.

I've watched all six seasons now, in order, at least three times.... First on my own, then with my boyfriend (who also loved it) and most recently this summer before the beginning of season 7.

Defiantly a great investment. :cwink:

I completed my collection and got Season 1 (for gifts) for the low price of $15.99. It was around Christmas.

I know you can get them NEW from the Amazon Marketplace for around that price too.

why don't you just rent the seasons and if you like it that much, then buy them.

Here's the order i would buy them in

6,5,4,1,2,3 if you want to catch up with the past seasons of clark first

if you want to relive the moments from the beginning, then i would go
1,2,5,6,4,3

Why would anybody watch it in any other order but chronological?

Don't start with Season 6. You'll ruin it for yourself.

Also, don't start with 4.

It's best to start at the beginning and work your way up. That way, when you reach the crappy witch storyline, you're enough of a fan that you tough it out. Then, when you reach Season 6, you've invested too much time to walk away.

:yay:
