This is a touchy subject...

Chris you and I are on the same page with this. Its infuriating.

The Wayones Brothers are like the Zucker Brothers. Comedy is their thing (it may be bad comedy, but they are not dramatic filmmakers).

But the humor of the Wayans' used to be a lot more clever, and usually had some subtle social relevance.

And again, I'll speak to the wasted talent of Marlon Wayans. in the right role, he can do great things. Watching Requim For A Dream, I was shocked at how good he was. But the only films he's done since have been these ridiculous comedies with his brothers.

I liked Poetic Justice and Rosewood a lot. Is Higher Learning any good?
It is not great, but it is good. It does explore certain subjects that don't get much attention in film.

The problme was that these three films were not the great success of Boyz in the Hood, so Hollywood didn't allow Singleton the same freedoms to continue to try to make films with messages that they would have allowed a White filmmaker with a similiar career. Singleton had to do Shaft, Baby Boy, and 2 Fast 2 Furious to continue his career.

**** Bale even did Shaft. Was there a lot of money going around or something?

So did that of the Zucker Brothers. Their films got less and less clever as their career moved forward. Good comedy is tough to maintain.

Judge Mathis used to be a gangster before he set himself straight and became a lawyer. :)

From gangster to lawyer is hardly an improvement. More like a lateral promotion along the scumbag spectrum :)

Am I the only one who liked his Shaft, uh. . . .his re-imagining of Shaft, I mean!:O

But yeah, I thought it was a very good film, and after seeing Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift, I appreciate 2 Fast 2 Furious a lot more for being just a fun film, and why should you do a fun film every now and then.

Yeah, but he was hardly the household name he is now. Even with American Psycho under his belt, he was more of an indy actor.

It was actually pretty good considering it had some pretty big shoes to fill...it helped that they had really good actors in the film (Bale, Jackson, and Jeffrey Wright).

Reign of Fire BOMBED. He was always known as a good actor since he was a kid in Empire of the Sun, but he didn't truly become famous until Batman Begins.

Yesterday a co-worker asked me if I'd seen "Little Man", & when I said I had no interest in seeing it, she went into a rant about how I had a "responsibilty" to support all black films.

Hmm,What else is she doing to up lift the community because that's pretty freakin weak. That irkes me to no end. I didn't grow up in the hood, why should I act like it  Yet people give me grief for the way I talk :(

I have to defend myself and bring them down a few notches,by infroming them of the things I have taken part in that they didn't know existed.Gets old, real old.

He was coming off of American Psycho. How did he go from that to Shaft?
He wasn't famous to the general movie going public after American Psycho.

I am not speaking in terms of fame I am taking about material. What was so appealing about Shaft that made him wanna do that movie??

Equilibrium is far from amazing. Anyhow, go back and read all the threads. I stated that Bale wasn't famous until Batman Begins and that is true. Yes, he was loved by the internet geek community but he was far from a household name until Batman Begins - period. This can not be argued.
