Ok, So I passed on a red light in Downtown Chicago.. And thanks to my wonderful luck, there was a camera in the signal that took a picture of my vehicle.. And to rub it in, there was also a cop right next to me when I passed the red light..

Now the cop gave me a ticket and I had to pay up 125 dollars for that and attend 8 hours of traffic safety school.. I thought all was done and over...

But yesterday, I receive another ticket for the same violation(This is for the photo taken by the signal camera), saying that I have to pay $180.. I call the ticket hotline and they say that I cannot contest this in court because, I have failed to respond to their two previous notices ... I told them I never received any notice before from them and this is the first one Im receiving.. But they kept insisting that they sent me two previous notices before and my ability to contest in court has expired

I just spoke to my friend and he's like the same thing happened to him in NJ.. He got a final determination notice without even getting prior notices before.. And hence he could not contest in court too!

I finally had to end up paying $180 and so that's like $300 for the same violation..

But theyre like they already sent me two notices allowing me to appeal before this .. Which I never got..

I was trying to get over the signal when it was turning from yellow to red... And it turned to red right before I crossed it.. Really didn't wanna slam on my brakes and stop in the middle of the road

Even if you can't go to court, you could still go, to whoever it is you have to go, in privat, show them the receipt and tell them "I already payed b*tch!"

You should have stopped BEFORE you got to the middle of the road. In case you've forgotten... yellow means 'slow down and stop', not 'accelerate so you can make it through'... even in Chicago.

Yes I know I need to slow down.. But I was way too close to the stop line and I was travelling at the speed limit of 40.. So there was no way I could have stopped in time.. Anyways, I got screwed in any case

Yellow lights don't turn that quickly. If it turned red when you were crossing, that means it was yellow for a bit first and you would have had time to slow down and stop.

It doesn't seem right that you should have to pay twice, but it's hard to have much sympathy when you essentially brought it on yourself.

Umm running a red light doesn't seem like a small issue.......plus passing someone while running a red light makes it even worse.

I knew someone who got hit by a car when crossing a sidewalk and the driver ran a red light.....so your sympathy request is lost on me...
