This is just ridiculous!

 :csad: :whatever: :cmad:

Roughly what proportion of the overall US government budget would that be?

Why is everybody always shocked about how their tax dollars are spent?

This is the gov't 'screw you' attitude Good Fellas style: <not just Bush's gov or Republican gov, but the leisure spending/waste of it in general>

1) Military: Department of Defense/Expansion/Matinence - Screw You. Fund Me

2) Nasa: Space Exploration, Project Funding, Fiduciary Outlook - Screw You. Fund Me.

3) Political Campaign Funding for Incumbent Authority / Supportive Financial Measures for stability / monetary resources for Official Authorities - Screw You. Fund Me.

4) Navigational Aid (Local Law Enforcement - Fire Fighters - County/City Employees: Office, Highway, Trasitional Overseer) - Screw You. Fund Me.

5) Health Care - Enough left over? Nope. Cutbacks. Maybe Next Year Gramps.

Better buy generic for your authritis.*shrugs*

6) Educational Funding - Cutback.

Does anyone really want to think about what kind of person would be running this country(speaking for the USA solely) in 50 years if it still existed?

Capitalism is a double-edged sword. Too much opportunistic advantageous behavior stifles growth regardless of the venture or system. In this case, wasteful spending on a outrageously suspect war effort is taking away from other programs, charitable trusts, and basic health care.

I'm not shocked, but just think what this money could have done for poverty, education, social security, health care, etc etc in our own country.

Even if there wasn't a war to fund, that money never would have gone to those things. Maybe a fraction of it, but not enough to matter. Money will never go to the right places as long as people keep putting politicians into office.

Military family so I really prefer to see a high defense budget. My dad thinks that it should be much higher than $500 billion

Agreed. When people actually see things like this, it's kind of sad, because it only gets worse. Government contracts mean a paradisaic landslide of financial growth for the people employed, but it also means that a cutback or denial is occurring somewhere else.

Agreed 10x.

Money sort of just filters to places on the whims of people in power who's idea of necessity is drastically different.

Why? How many politicians do we know who live in a poor, average, or even less than upper-middle class community. Wealth sort of dictates political candidates and is also very phlegmatic where matters of need are concerned. . . at least politically speaking.
