The dates the cinema chain Cineworld is showing Robert the Bruce have been confirmed after The National gave prominence to a campaign to show the film.

The movie’s distributors Signature Entertainment confirmed to The National that Cineworld will have Robert The Bruce in five of its seven complexes in Scotland: Glasgow Silverburn, Falkirk, Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen Queen’s Link starting from tomorrow.

The chain's U-turn followed a huge backlash from Scottish film fans with more than 1300 people pledging online never to visit a Cineworld screen again after the world’s second largest cinema chain confirmed that they would not show the film starring Angus Macfadyen, who also co-wrote the film, in the title role.

Macfadyen himself hit out at Cineworld’s original decision and he was backed yesterday by Oscar-winning actor Tim Robbins of Shawshank Redemption fame.

Wait so... is this film like a Braveheart sequel? I mean, since it's Macfadyen playing Robert again.

Yeah it will be a direct sequel. This is the premise from the Wiki page

The film focuses on a winter in which the whereabouts of Robert The Bruce are in doubt, telling one of several stories that survive in historical accounts.

Following a series of military losses, with his army in tatters and the success of his rebellion in doubt, Robert retreats from the battlefield. Alone, injured, and pursued by fortune-seekers intent on collecting a bounty placed on his head by King Edward of England, he finds refuge in the croft of a peasant woman and the three children in her care – a teenage nephew, a young niece, and her own son. They care for him, forging a powerful bond, even though their clan is aligned with England. This connection inspires Robert with a deeper understanding of the patriotism of ordinary Scots, which drives his passionate return to the national stage and, ultimately, to victory and independence.

Interesting, thanks. Always liked Macfadyen; I'll have to check this out. Why is this theater chain barely showing it in Scotland? If there's a market for this movie, that's it.

I don't want to say for certain because from what little I have seen this reported on, its pretty much all been from unreliable tabloids.

Definitely an incredibly foolish move by Cineworld whatever the case. Why you would even have to consider showing a film about one of Scotland's biggest heroes in Scotland is beyond me.

Yeah, it's just strange. It would be one thing if Robert was this really controversial figure or if the movie portrayed one of their greatest heroes in an extremely negative light, but that doesn't sound like it's the case here.
