Days of Future Past "This movie does not feel X-Men"

I read this off the comment section for the new tv spot on SHH's main page.

What does this comment even mean? What should X-Men feel like?


How could anyone gather such information just by watching a tv spot too? Are people again, trying so hard to dismiss this movie?

This isn't the first time I've heard people say this and it kinda bugs me...

Some just want to hate the film.You will hear comments that Bryan Singer ruined the X-Men and saying fox should just give the rights back to Marvel.Forgetting that Singer revived the entire comic book film genre after the fiasco that was Batman and Robin.
I can remember a time when it was amazing that X-Men was going forward.And If People think Fox would just hand over a profitable franchise like X-Men over to another studio to make money on they are just crazy.Plus Marvel Studios Is relvent slow.Inless things change we are getting 1 marvel film In 2012 and 1 Marvel film In 2013 from them.And may I also remind people so far they have shown little movement In Non Avengers projects.Hell they still can't get Ant-Man off the ground and that was announced with Iron Man.If they got X-Men back who knows when we would see any X-Men films again.

If anything, from everything I've seen, this film feels more like the comics than any of the past films. It's just giving me that kind of vibe and I hope the month of May goes by quick.

xmen has got to the point of just picking characters out of the comics and just making sht up.

Idk. I grew up reading X-Men comics and watching the animated series in the 90's. I get a major X-Men vibe from this film compared to the previous ones. Weird mix of mutants, but many of the iconic ones are present, and Hellfire Club is Classic X-Men. They're not holding back with the costumes and making characters fly and fight like never before. Plus it's what X-Men has always been. A dramatic story with action.

This film actually looks pretty amazing. I don't really have any negative feelings about it at all. Whereas with X3 and Wolverine I just knew they'd be stinkers.

I believe this film will surprise a lot of people.

Maybe they were just comparing it to the last movies? Honestly, I don't consider much when it comes to comments sections of any article.

I think because the superhero movie genre has taken off so much since the first movie was released, it's allowed them some more freedom to be closer to the look of the comics. What might have seemed inaccessible (or even cheesy) to audiences 10 years ago is different then how people see them now.

The funny thing about what I put in bold is that the original team in the comics were in fact teenagers. So what you said is true for the most part, a lot of people ***** as if they know the books when they really don't.

What's interesting is that I get a very elitist vibe from some X-men fans that seems to be lacking in other comic book franchises (or at least greatly reduced). Iron Man and Nolan's Batman weren't particularly comic-faithful, but I don't remember there being a great gnashing of teeth. The most I can come up with is the Joker perma-white drama.

Why is X-Men different? It's as if these fans are demanding the film be an exact retelling of the comic books, and won't give the director ANY creative control at all, which I simply don't see in the other comic book movie franchises. Is X-Men different somehow?

X-Men fans are generally very vocal, from my experience in comic stores and on other comic forums.

Some of them seem to take the whole "us against them" thing from the comics into the real world. Which is pretty sad, really. If you ever visit CBR, beware the X-Boards, that's all i'm saying.

I think a lot of fans are kind of fed up with where the X-Men films have gone and are disappointed this isn't a reboot instead. I kind of am, but I still am looking forward to this film.

As for the others complaining about them being teenagers, I think they just don't know the X-Men that well.

HA... they both look to take more from the comics tone-wise than the previous two films.

The only thing I want this movie to have in common with X3 is that they both share some characters, anything apart from that would make me go into panic mode.

i dont know. I look at the trailers and dont get a x-men vibe cause alot of these characters arent the ones I know and to me thats a big part of why I can't really get into this film. Almost all the people I have talked to about the film feel the same way. It just ends up feeling like a way for 20th century fox to throw a bunch of random mutants together and slap X-Men on it cause they know people will go see a brand name.

After watching Banshee fly, Diamond Emma, yellow team suits, Professor X teaching mutants about their powers, Magneto's new helmet looking more like the comics, Hellfire Club, Beast's transformation, Mystiques transformation continuity between all films and Mutant Powers being actually used I have no idea why someone would think this doesn't feel like an X Men movie

This looks more like the comics then the other films.

People are pissed because [insert your favorite character] isn't in the film.
The story doesn't really follow continuity of the comic books.
So they have their minds made up that it isn't an x men film.
Some people need an excuse to hold onto their early position that this movie would suck, lol.

not to say that this movie will or will not suck, but why do people who want the starting 5 in the film always get classified as looking for a reason to hate it or just haters in general. Those are thecharacters I have followed for years and there relationships are why I am a X-Men fan. Putting together random X-men, some of who had very little contact in the comics, and slapping a X-men brand name on it just doesnt do it for me. Now will the movie be good? maybe it will be. But if its not following the characters that made me love the comics in the first place I just see it as a waste/
