This movie, nor the previous 2, were made for us

The common theme I keep hearing is that anyone who is familiar with the comics will hate this movie, and that regular joes will love iit. Well, thats not suprising since this movie, as well as the first two were not made for the comic fans. If they were, we wouldnt have gotten X2, or X3. Cause xmen 1 would have failed financially if all it appealed to were the core audience

Sin City says different, but yeah maybe if x-men were too close to the comic, it wouldn't have done well.... I don't know.

In my mind, Im thinking "why go see an x-men movie, if you're not familiar with its source at least in a general sense." heh

The general public will LIKE this film. We went to an early screening, and my 10 year old cousin thought it was amazing. The other adults in the theatre, however, thought the film was average to poor. There was laughter when Storm delivered some of her lines, and as we walked out of the theatre we heard a lot of "That second one was better" "It was more like Fantastic Four" "The cartoon did it better", but some "It was too long"(??) as well. It feels like a B-grade popcorn movie, and well....i was personally disappointed. You know how X-men 2 had that dark atmosphere, suspense, and a sense of epic "drama"? This film is very similar to Fantastic Four in tone, with less humour and more darkness. But basically as superficial as that film. So lower your expectations, and you'll be suprised!

"The cartoon did it better?"

I guess time makes the heart fonder because I didn't care for the 90's cartoon version of the Phoenix Saga.

Really?? why?

well not everyone is an x men fan and not evreybody spends a bunch of time reading comics. the movie is made for people like me who like the story and the idea of mutants, and thats it its just a movie.

Evolution was much better though. Give me 50 mil, and i can make the version that everyone wants.

Evolution was good. I really liked it. Their take on certain storylines was pretty good.

If X-men 1 and 2 were more like the comics it would've been better and made more money!

I agree. i never saw the need for the black costumes. Look at astonishing x-men. they aren't tights, they are leather. and Why was Wolverine even needed for a good plot? he didn't arrive til the 70's, and there were many good plots and characters that came before him.

Yeah, that you know of--not that the general audience knows of.

many know of the first five, banshee and havok. and the villians should have been only Mystique and Magneto, and a few nuclear bombs that are hijacked by him.

I'm willing to bet that a lot of the fans obviously know who the first five are . . . I doubt I'd go so far as to say that for the rest of the general audience, especially for the characters of Banshee and Havok. Wolverine wasn't necessarily just used for a good plot point. He and Storm were used because they were some of the most recognizable X-Men even among non-fans. They were used in part for familiarities' sake.

i still think the film could have worked without them. they should have come in the second film. the first should ahve played out like Mythos, but extended, expanded, and mcuh more content.

I just saw the film. Regular joes will definitely love it. Fanboys will be divided. Those who want a direct translation of the comics will be very disappointed. Those are willing to see a different take on the X-Men will love it (despite the film being far too short).

It might now, especially since the general audience and the world is much more familiar with the X-Men. I don't know how well it would have worked especially back in 1999/2000 (prior to all of this you probably would have had an insane number of fanboys *****ing that of all people, how could you leave out Wolverine from an X-Men movie). It's all in your interpretation of mythos. You want Banshee and Havok, because you like them. FOX and Marvel seemed to like the idea of Storm and Wolverine better. You also want to add Mystique to the Brotherhood rather than have the original mythos members Toad, Mastermind, Quicksilver, and the Scarlet Witch . . . again in it's all in your interpretation I guess.

But, I agree it could probably work. I would still say no moreso, than then.

hey, i never said i needed Banshee or Havok. Storm and Wolverine would have been better. hell, i would have kept the casting (Halle is the perfect storm). Like the Ultimates, Wolverine could be an assasin, sent by Magneto. Xavier gets in his brain, and fixs him. Lets make it the original Six then, and have Storm as the other girl. She could also have a rivalry with Scott on whose the leader.
And they are the only students at the time, the other students don't arrive til after the first movie.
and i was thinking about the original brotherhood too. I would have kept everyone except Mastermind(no one knows who he is really), Mystique would take his place.
I could see Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch as Magneto's kids, who don't see eye to eye with their father the whole time (especially in the End). Toad would basically be Magnetos' errand boy(he always was).

Ultimate X-MEN should have been the movies, too bad they came out after.

Damn, if only i could get the funding and the actors. hey, i don't need knowns, i can use unknowns for most, cause they are way younger than they are in the singer's version. only Magneto, mystique, and Xavier would have to be knowns.
