No I don't hate Williams...he's very good, if a bit overrated. Jerry Goldsmith was Williams before Williams was. But Elfman.....relaying emotion..it's the same damn emotion over and over! His music cheapens a movie, like using a generic ingredient while cooking instead of going for something with more quality and flavor. I'd still take someone like Silvestri over Elfman every time, unless I wanted circus music...then I'd just pick any of Elfman's compositions indiscriminantly. Just my take, really...I have no problem with folks who like his music. He's obviously got talent, but I just wish he'd give us some more variety.batbat_29640 said:wtf ever! He gets better and better. The man can relay emotion with his music. You felt what the characters felt in both Spiderman movies because of Elfman. Guess ya hate John Williams too.
KalMart said:Elfman's a half-trick pony, whose lack of variety and originality is only outweighed by his harmonic simplicity. YMMV, but his music should be limited to cartoons, and even then he might be reaching to make the grade. Elfman is the worst thing to happen to film soundtracks since the syhthesizer. But his stuff on Pee-wee's Big adventure was okay. Reached his peak on that, he did.
To each his/her own....but bringing up mothers is inappropriate. My point still stands as well.zer00 said:Your mother is ashamed of you.
And in the sad case your mother has passed. I apologize. But my point still stands.
What the F**K ever! Goldsmith is a hack . . . who ripped off Conan The Batbarian music for his Total recall score. Williams is the Man. Elfman is close second! Just do the world a favor and stay out of the gene pool.KalMart said:No I don't hate Williams...he's very good, if a bit overrated. Jerry Goldsmith was Williams before Williams was. His work on the Hulk was brilliant. As was his work on Big Fish. You are the worst thing to happen to amature critics!KalMart said:Elfman's a half-trick pony, whose lack of variety and originality is only outweighed by his harmonic simplicity. The man has done all sorts of amazing work. Sure, most of it has a similar tone. So what? His stuff is powerful and often rememberable.
Spiderman, Batman, Nightmare Before Christmas... all great.
Gene pool? Alrighty...we've digressed into microbiological insults here.batbat_29640 said:What the F**K ever! That's an immature attempt at an amateur comeback. I actually did like his work on Hulk, as well as Midnight Run. The rest is cookie-cutter...little square cookies at that.batbat_29640 said:His work on the Hulk was brilliant. As was his work on Big Fish. You are the worst thing to happen to amature critics!
Which all sound the same, based on the same narrow harmonic and rhythmic range, and synthetic-sounding orchestration. Memorable as it may be, it's unfortunately the same memory.Flexo said:Not really.
