Batman Begins This works!

Yeah man! That's my favorite track from that album and I always felt it should be looped in with a trailer. It sure as hell works for me.

I was so glad...extrremely glad...that nothing about the BB soundtrack resembled anything from Elfman.

I dunno......just doesn't work for me. I dunno if I'm used to the BB soundtrack or what.....but it just doesn't work for me.

Ya know . . . I loved the music from BB. But I have to say that Danny Elfman still has the best Batman theme. The short and rarely heard Batman theme in Begins reminded me too much of the theme from Batman Forever and Batman &
Robin. And btw . . . there are hints of Elfman and Shirley Walker's Batman music in begins . . . check it out. When young Bruce is in the GPD headquarters with Gordan there is deffinately a Shirley Walker BTAS hint there . . . which was originally written by Danny Elfman. There is more . . . see if you can find it.

Elfman should just retire...we've heard everything he knows how to do...multiple times. Actually, the only two soundtracks of his that I liked were Dead Presidents and Midnight Run. The composers for BB did a fine job, and it matched the film very well.

wtf ever! He gets better and better. The man can relay emotion with his music. You felt what the characters felt in both Spiderman movies because of Elfman. Guess ya hate John Williams too.

No I don't hate Williams...he's very good, if a bit overrated. Jerry Goldsmith was Williams before Williams was. :cwink: But Elfman.....relaying emotion..it's the same damn emotion over and over! His music cheapens a movie, like using a generic ingredient while cooking instead of going for something with more quality and flavor. I'd still take someone like Silvestri over Elfman every time, unless I wanted circus music...then I'd just pick any of Elfman's compositions indiscriminantly. Just my take, really...I have no problem with folks who like his music. He's obviously got talent, but I just wish he'd give us some more variety.

While I definitely he's declined in quality in recent years, I disagree about him never being able to capture emotion very well. I think the scores for Batman, Returns, Edward Scissorhands, etc. are some of the best scores I've ever heard...and pretty powerful too. They're not the kind of upbeat thing John Williams usually does - he's definitely macabre, but in the films were macabre is called for, his music fits it really well, I think.

I agree I love his work but it doesnt fit BB. I like that the score of BB was just as theatrically restrained as the movie itself. BB was subtle and the score fit that sensibility perfectly.

Elfman's a half-trick pony, whose lack of variety and originality is only outweighed by his harmonic simplicity. YMMV, but his music should be limited to cartoons, and even then he might be reaching to make the grade. Elfman is the worst thing to happen to film soundtracks since the syhthesizer. But his stuff on Pee-wee's Big adventure was okay. Reached his peak on that, he did.

Your mother is ashamed of you.

And in the sad case your mother has passed. I apologize. But my point still stands.

To each his/her own....but bringing up mothers is inappropriate. My point still stands as well.

What the F**K ever! Goldsmith is a hack . . . who ripped off Conan The Batbarian music for his Total recall score. Williams is the Man. Elfman is close second! Just do the world a favor and stay out of the gene pool.

His work on the Hulk was brilliant. As was his work on Big Fish. You are the worst thing to happen to amature critics!

Not really.

The man has done all sorts of amazing work. Sure, most of it has a similar tone. So what? His stuff is powerful and often rememberable.

Spiderman, Batman, Nightmare Before Christmas... all great.

Flexo, Flexo....Flexo

We're talking about how great Elfman is, not me.

Gene pool? Alrighty...we've digressed into microbiological insults here.

That's an immature attempt at an amateur comeback. I actually did like his work on Hulk, as well as Midnight Run. The rest is cookie-cutter...little square cookies at that.

Which all sound the same, based on the same narrow harmonic and rhythmic range, and synthetic-sounding orchestration. Memorable as it may be, it's unfortunately the same memory.

Kids...I'm not trying to harp on anyone in particular who likes his music, please don't take it that way. My opinions on his music are no more or less than someone's opinions on a particular musical group. I'm not saying anyone here is right or wrong, just stating my take on it. If you guys like it, then cool, I respect that. I just don't like his work. :cwink:
