If I could ask a bold question... How old is your mother? I'm curious because my mom used to actually read the early MARVEL books. Spidey, Thor and Surfer were particular faves. (She watched Original recipe Trek when it aired on TV as well.) She not a full fledged modern geek type, she stopped reading comics, but she knew Marvel's pop culture impact.

Ma is 40, going to 41 in September and she has never touched a comic book in her life. She doesn't even read. When we watched Harry Potter together, every five minutes she would lean over and I had to explain what was going on to her. I've had to do it with both Avengers and IM3 because I knew enough about it at that point to clue her into a few things. She is as mainstream audience as it gets and I guarantee you she will see the tree guy and the raccoon and laugh and tell me that it looks too crazy to be good.

It's all he says hahaha. Rocket can translate what he says but humanoids can't.
Groot can say "groot" in many ways but the can go from a short three word phrase to a long drawn out paragraph lol

So let me get this straight:

There is a raccoon with an attitude problem, a tree that only says 'groot' and can only be understood by said raccoon, some alien lady with green skin, and a main character who is called Starlord and you guys think I'm weird for worrying about how well this LCD trip is going to go over with the muggles?

Ah... That's strange... These sort of things are more common now in entertainment these days. Your mom is old enough to have lived through the Star Wars craze. Of course different strokes and all that, I suppose. I work with a guy who is a couple of years younger than me and he has never seen ANY of the SW movies. Or Chris Reeves Superman... Or... Well you get the point. I've asked him why and his overall point is entertainment where things occur that cannot happen in life is "stupid". Of course his favorite comedy is "I NOW PRONOUNCE YOU CHUCK AND LARRY".

Wierdly, he liked Avengers. It's a strange universe.

I love this discussion. We are in a forum based around cosmic versions of Norse myths, but talking trees and raccoons? Just too outlandish. :lmao:

Ma doesn't like Star Wars probably because my Dad loves Star Wars and forced her (and me) to watch it. I got to tell you, being forced to watch Star Wars made me kind of resentful to the whole thing too. I told him I didn't want to watch them especially all in a row, he didn't listen and I hold a grudge to this day. She liked the Star Trek movie that just came out, not the second one she hasn't seen it yet, and she loved Avengers as well as the Wolverine, though she hasn't seen the new one yet but those movies are all things I convinced her to watch after long battles. She resists me but I'm converting her, slowly but surely :D

Your dislike of OT Star Wars explains so much. Do you also hate kittens, puppies and candy?
