RT will never change how you feel about a movie
But, that list is pretty spot on, most can agree that Dark Knight is one of the greatest comic films ever, along with SM, IM, and Avengers
And we can also mostly agree that Jonah Hex, Elektra, and Catwoman are the absolute worst
so, it's not exactly off, and I would put TDW in firmly middle territory

Why were there only 189 reviews of this film?

It cant change how you feel about a movie, but it should help you identify where you have distinct tastes from the norm and for what reasons.

What's interesting about the list, especially the top 12, is that they are films where the director had a lot of creative control over the project. The further you get down you notice the films where the studios started getting their hands involved.

If that was a general rule, why would studios keep interfering? Does the fact they interfere not teach us that theyghave learned that interference is often necessary?

Is it that interference creates bad movies, ir is it that it fails to bail out bad movies?

They interfere because studios base their decisions on market research most of the time these days. 20 years ago it was more about a gut feeling, now because franchises are the driving forces in the industry they've got to treat things more like a consumer product. We're getting to the stage where the up and coming Chris Nolan's of the world won't be applying their trade in film, it will be on online TV content providers where creativity isn't just given, it's encouraged, because ultimately for franchises as long as the film isn't outright terrible there's too much risk involved with giving someone a chance to stamp their mark on a film series.

i dont think RT in anyway reflects whether the director had his vision imprinted or not.. sometimes directors do get their way but the critics have their say on whether it worked or not...

i dont think any studio interference was responsible for the low ratings for movies such as , mos, green latern, elecktra, fantastic four etc... they just didnt resound with the critics

I don't think it's mere coincidence that the highest rated films are also the ones where the director had a great deal of control.

    Dark Knight, 94%, 288 reviews
    Spider Man 2, 94%, 248 reviews
    Iron Man, 93%, 243 reviews
    The Avengers, 92%, 301 reviews
    Spider Man, 89%, 224 reviews
Dark Knight Rises, 88%, 304 reviews
    X Men: First Class, 87%, 243 reviews
    X Men 2, 87%, 224 reviews
    Hellboy 2, 87%, 209 reviews
    Batman Begins, 85%, 265 reviews

I'm not read up in depth on all movies but Whedon talks a bit about not getting to keep some stuff, and being surprised that he got to keep some other things, on the commentary track for The Avengers. He also didn't come in on the project as early as he will be for Age of Ultron so that movie will probably be more him (as the success of the first movie might give him more freedom).

Shouldnt there be more reviews coming in by now? Most big films get more reviews than this on RT. I smell something fishy here.

Its not really a busy month for movies now. Maybe if this opened in the summer, there would have been 250 reviews in just 2 weeks of release.

That makes no sense Gravity and Captain Phillips were released in an even weaker time for movies and both have well over 200 reviews. Something is up. It makes no sense. Hell even the wolverine got more reviews.

I don't know why people are complaining here, usually, when more reviews are added the tomatometer falls further, so if some reviews are not yet added that keeps RT meter in a better position.

I am saying this because, a single negative vote reduces the rating and to compensate it many more positive reviews need to be added.

Guys, the RT score isn't the end of all things you know. I love ASM but it's not that far above T:TDW.

Depending on how you look at the film, I can see where people would say it was better or worse than the first. If you're looking at the scope of the film, the 2nd is by far the better. However if you're looking at acting, directing, dialogue and such, the first was better. It's not that the 2nd was a bad film, some parts were rushed and we're never given small moments to soak things in, and the first 1/3 of the film was very choppy.

I know, it's a little late for conspiracy theories ain't it.

@Tony Stark, Certainly I thought the first Thor had a far better villain and that Thor actually seemed to be more of a character in his own film than in the sequel.
