Plus remember the Infinity War crew said Thor is in an interesting place at the end of Ragnarok and it heavily informs his motivation in Infinity War.

These where the Russo's words:
‘I’m excited to work with Thor,’ said Joe.

‘They’re doing some really interesting stuff with Ragnarok and where he’s gonna be at the beginning of Infinity War is gonna be a very interesting place and I think very profound,’ he added.
‘I think he’s gonna have a real emotional motivation after that.’
My guess is that Odin dies, Asgard is mostly destroyed and Loki is gone, either arrested or just out of the picture. And now Thor has to take the mantle of his father as the true King of Asgard. Culminating that what was about to happen in the first movie. The coronation of King Thor.

I would say his "motivation" would be to respect the memory of his father by "swearing to guard the 9 realms, swearing to preserve the peace and swearing to cast aside all selfish ambition for the good of the realm."

In the first movie he wanted to become King. He longed for it even though he wasn't ready.
In the second movie he refused to become King. He grew as a man and just wanted his "normal" life.
In the third movie it would make sense if he had no choice. If Odin dies then the right thing to do is to follow on his father footsteps and honoring him by becoming King Thor.

I wouldn't mind that at all.

Does anyone know if Hemsworth has any movies left after IW? It seems to me that King Thor going and staying in Asgard might also be a good way to retire the character for a possibly extended period of time.

That would probably be the best way to do it. Difficult to kill him off and not much point after Ragnarok. And this way he would be doing something cool behind the scenes and still be available for the future whenever needed.

Chris Hemsworth had 3 movies left after AOU.
And he specifically said "Avengers 3 and 4 and i got Thor 3"

So after IW, it looks like the new guard will be taking the helm (no pun intended....sorta....). I wonder what this means for Cap and IM. How about Chris Evans....how many movies does he have left. I think I read Sebastian has a bunch so I'm thinking he'll prolly be the new Cap (maybe not in name, but functionally).

EDIT: Ah....so they're both in the same boat (didn't actually listen to the video before).

The thing to remember is that even though their current contract might end with A4, it doesn't mean they won't return/can't sign a new contract. I believe Hemsworth has indicated that he's still open to continue playing Thor. Evans also clarified his "quitting acting" comments saying that he would still like to continue playing Cap....

Yeah. I get that, but can also see Marvel saying "Hey, we've got a new slate of characters we want to go with for awhile". It doesn't mean that's it for the current group, but at some point, the scheduling gets pretty crowded.

The colour scheme is looking a bit Thor Ragnarok: The Flash Gordon Years but I have my fingers crossed that it will turn out okay.

The look of Asgard in the first film was pretty Flash Gordon to begin with.

Yeah I don't remember who brought it up years ago, but they said Asgard reminded them of the Flash Gordon.
I'm VERY curious what this is going to look like. lol
Also Curious why Thor cuts his hair. I mean if he doesn't meet Hela until the later part of the film, why do we see the Hela looking thing on his back when he has LONG hair? I would assume that takes place early on after he leaves Cap and Tony in AoU

Doesn't Thor lose his powers if he looses his locks in Norse mythology? Assuming he gets thrown to Sakaar, they strip him of his armor, cut off the locks, and throw him with the other warrior prisoners. Feels like something they'd throw in the first or second trailer.

Yeah it's the Samson of myth (not our Doc Samson from Hulk) that THINKS his power is in the length of his hair. He ends up discovering it isn't.

EDIT: I see if he meets Hela early on taking Mjolnir, and traps Thor on Sakaar while she destroys the city of Asgard, but why cut his hair? Or was it maybe burnt off?

Thought that was Samson?

Pretty sure it was Thor too. Incredible similarities in Christian, Norse, Greek, and all mythology throughout the world. When Christians came to the Nordic lands to force them to convert or be killed, they kind of compromised a bit and retconned the Norse myths canon, if you will, by having Ragnarok be end right before Genesis, which in itself is rumored to have been derived from Norse legends.

Or the similarities could be chalked up to the Ancient Astronaut theory which is cool because that was one of the big inspirations for Kirby, who developed it through his lengthy run on Thor years before Erich Von Daniken's Chariots of the Gods. One of the many angles the first Thor movie absolutely nailed.

Either way, go Thor!

The Grandmaster mistook him for the other Hemsworth brother and wondered why he had all that long hair. Gale has short hair, darn it!

Been a while since I watched, but are you referring to how Russell was portrayed?

Ya.

He was the "accidental" hero in that film. Courageous, but a buffoonish, alpha-male type.

Thor is supposed to be stoic. I agree with Taika that Hemsworth is actually quite funny when he wants to be - but that's not core of Thor's character or at least as far as I've come to know it. Now if the film can capture the fun or spirit of a movie like "Big Trouble Little China" then I am totally fine with that.

Ahh ok. I've made peace with this less stoic version.
BTLC is quite the inspiration for a character that doesn't stop talking about his otherworldy knowledge.

I don't think you can play up a "clueless" Thor anyway. Even if on an alien world to him he is more in his element in a cosmic road trip story than he is in one like the first film's Earthbound stuff.

Anyone else notice we've heard virtually nothing about Executioner in all this news?

True. It's early but n the media push though. I hope Urban looks formidable as hell.
