Thor: Ragnarok The Official News and Speculation Thread - Part 5

Thor has pretty consistently been one of the more goofy Marvel titles. Especially all the best runs like Kirby, Simonson, JMS. The hardcore metal stuff has been hit-or-miss through the years. The humor in the first Thor was bloody brilliant, Dark World was definitely a mixed bag.

Eh... goofy is in the eye of the beholder (Note to self... copyright that :)). I never felt reading the Simonson run that the humor ever overshadowed everything else or undermined the story of characters that are "gods" in an epic cosmic story. Hell, Thor as a frog is one of my favorite stories. but most of his run and the most well remembered moments from it are played straight throughout. Not a lot of laughs to undercut the Surtur story or the last Viking tale, ya'know?

I think a balance as in the first Thor is what is needed. Lots of humor but it never undercut the hero's journey or family drama elements.

This looks crazy

Kirby definitely deserves a Production Art credit lol

TBH, the costumes and make-up look like some mediocre cosplay.

So is Valkyrie with the Galadorian Space Knights or something?

I wonder what the significance, in story the face paint and red symbols on Thor will have? Blessings? Incantations? Some tradition of the gladiators on Sakkar?

These look amazing! (Okay, so Hela looks nothing like how I expected her to, but it's Cate so I'm happy no matter what)

Why do you say that? The guy sitting next to her in the pic?

Yeah, he looks pretty knighty. Everyone else in that pic as well. They remind me of the Space Knight design from Annihilation/Annihilation Conquest. It's probably just a coincidence. They probably don't have any significance to the plot.

I'm actually quite glad we haven't seen him in this initial wave of info/photos. Hope the early marketing is indicative that their really gonna push this as a Thor movie, not a Thor/Hulk movie.
It will be a Thor movie, I don't expect Hulk to be too involved outside the gladiator stuff.

The colors are vibrant.

the colors are ridiculous for a thor movie, for a five years old child maybe is cool

Hela looks incredibly meh in the pics for me, but i'll hold back on a real opinion cos this is EW and they regularly make stuff look bad.

I like that the Grandmaster looks related to the Collector, but with Goldblum cast I didn't expect different

The notion that colors wouldn't be something for adults just sounds like the generic teenager trying to sound adult because he wants to be, rather than someone that actually is one. Kind of like how some sound when they think that dark and gritty movies automatically are so adult. :woot:

The hype is real!

Nice. :drl:
I didn't like Hela on the cover, but here she is cool.

I'm embracing the colorful retro look here. We left Thor in a pretty sad state, he needs a little vibrant color in his life. :funny:

I'm getting a Star Wars vibe from some of those background characters, I kinda like that. Also I have never been more attracted to Cate Blanchett than I am now seeing her as Hela. :o

I'm really curious about those symbols an face paint on Thor. There's gotta be some significance to them.

Wish they would have used the Valkyrie concept from The Dark World:

Yep they look much better here to me, particularly Thor and Hela. That cover really was a ****e representation lol.
