Thor's box office competition - Part 1

The international marketing for Inglorious Basterds was deliberately focused on all the characters of the movie rather than just the Americans. It also played strongly on it being from Quentin Tarantino as much as the story itself.

While OS marketing for Cap Am won't be the easiest thing in the world, Marvel heads aren't stupid, they'll know the audiences they're advertising to an adjust campaigns accordingly.

So Thor surpassed Superman Returns world wide. It made $391,081,192 million world wide. How long did it take to make that much? June 28 to October 29. It's not a knock at Superman Returns, I kind of like that movie.

20 million more domestically and about 30 million more WW I'm a happy camper.

Very true and a very important point.

I liked SR too. But Singer said it himself that it wasn't the superhero movie that superhero movies audiences were expecting.

Plus, movies like TF2 making enormous numbers and getting sequels destroyed the value of the BO results in relation to the movie's quality forever.

Compared to expectations SR was a box office disappointment any way you cut it.

But it proved a point retroactively. Plus I think there are other examples of bad movies making loads of money and vice versa before.

I think when POTC2 came out it really hit me that quality wasn't any longer necessary to make huge sums. Prior to DMC, no film had ever joined the $400M domestic club without having at least a positive fresh rating on RT. DMC was the harbinger of doom.

Well, Fast Five just hit $500 million for its global box office take. It also had a smaller budget of $120 million. Now I really want to see Thor make it to the $400 million mark.

Weekend actual: $15,455,304

Worldwide:$392,361,459

Still amazed that turd of a franchise is able to snag $500 million on it's 5th rendition.

It was a pretty good movie and the best in the franchise. Very entertaining movie.

It really isn't all that bad. It has been a while since there has been a straight action film in the vein of old 80s and 90s movies. Sure there was Expendables, but that was lacking in any kind of depth. That is not to say that Fast Five is the paragon of intellectual richness, but by comparison, far more is going on in Fast Five. The pacing is solid, the action is enjoyable. They stay true to the street racing roots of the first film. I do not care for 2F2F or Tokyo Drift, which is why Fast Five is so great. It brings in the story from the first and the fourth film. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, so I am not here to change your mind. However, I can see why audiences are enjoying this film.

please, the last fast and the furious film was a piece of wannabe ****... I was laughing at how bad everything was and how serious it tried to take itself, plus the humor and the "funny comedic lines" were complete ****. Ludacris and that other loser rapper "actor" weren't even remotely funny. "Ohhh did he grab that ass or slap it" or some such garbage... what **** lines

And who gives a two bit **** about Rodriguea Letty coming back from the dead... what a **** film

You have to put spoiler tags on a statement like that. Even if you hate the film, there are those who may enjoy the franchise and have yet to see the new film.

I have no idea what echostation said. All I see is **** after **** after ****.

Also why are people surprised that a sequel that was a box office success made even more with a better sequel.

ZERO chance of me seeing it.

Paul Walker and Vin Gasoline are enough to run me away from the theater. I'm just not into this recycled storyline of stealing and street racing all these ghetto mod'd cars. I could barely stand any of the other ones ..... the icing on the cake is I'm supposed to believe Vin could take the Rock in a fight.

Honestly I can't. The dragging the safe thing is more rediculous than Indy surviving a nuclear blast from inside a refrigerator. I'm not saying audiences aren't enjoying it. I just can't see why. It's by far one of the top 5 dumbest movies I've ever had the misery of sitting through.

Bashing rappers is so "1990s", besides, I'm pretty sure Ludacris didn't write the script and that other rapper is actually Tyrese Gibson and he's a singer.
