Have you guys been to those fancy movie theaters? Miami is getting one. website: http://www.cobbcinebistro.com/

So, whats the deal with these? Are they any good or is it just a waste of money?

I personally hate the idea of going out to eat and watch a film at the same time, I can do that at home.

Go have dinner then watch a film. Don't do both...

With current gas prices this may not be a bad idea. ;)

EDIT:

Oh, and I love how the theater will have a bar. You know...cause thats what we need when watching a movie...drunk people.

Ugh. I'd hate to visit that kinda theater. There's gotta be lights on so that people can see to eat. Plus wine & cocktails? Drunken people.

When I go to the movies, I go to see a movie not to fcking eat!

There's nothing wrong with being drunk during a movie. I do it all the time :o

I'd hate to see how much a ticket costs over there. Must be expensive.

Yea. It'll probably be one of those 35 dollar ticket places I've been hearing about.

that's so much crap I thought of this years ago, what the hell?

But it would have been a place to take for dates, it would have been a normal ticket price, but a restaurant attached.

They've been around for years.

Cinema n Drafthouses' have been around for more than 20 years here but the new high dollar theaters with bars have been around for I think 5 years. I've only been to one and it was a red carpet thing so I didn't have to pay for anything, food and alcohol was served after the films.

This is why I don't go to Cinema Cafe (Local movie theater chain that serves food and drinks with waiters, etc.). If I am going to eat something good, I will sneak my own food in there, or just eat before/after the movie. I will cook my own gourmet dinner and watch a DVD if I wanted to.

I actually work at one. I must say it's a pain in the arse having to interlock our lounge cinema with one of the others all the time (one movie print strung out across 2 or more projectors). We do that to have a movie playing with both a regular screening and a lounge/meal option at the same show time.

Why? It's all about survival. Cinemas struggle. With distributors taking more than 60% of the ticket prices on the opening week and decreasing amounts as the weeks go by the cinema doesn't get to profit much from viewings alone. The traditional solution has been to have jacked up prices on sweets to supplement the income. These luxury wine & dine set-ups are another idea in that vein. People wanting a night out can treat themselves to a restaurant meal and a movie in one hit, without a bunch of rowdy teens or idiots throwing things at the screen.

One downside, as already mentioned, is that people need light to see. Small table lights between seats en masse tend to illuminate the screen too much for my liking. I have found the auditorium with all of those table lights on and cranked right up in the past and the resulting picture was horrible.

Are they worth it? I don't know. We need income sources and a gold class idea was selected as the leading option. We used to run a collection of arcade machines and those had a tendency to attract people who's contribution to society was scribbling graffiti everywhere. That mess was converted to a restaurant side of the business that I have practically nothing to do with, so I really don't know how much value we get out of it or not.

Id be willing to pay 35-40 bones for ppv movies while theyre still in their thetrical run(You know you wanna be able to watch Iron Man in the comfort of your own home)But $35 to go to the theatre?= not happenin

yeah they have sample seats here(in the crappy theater right next to it) in the miami theater you're talking about...

lol...

it better be free food and drinks at that price lol

The thing I hate most about going to the movies is smelling the **** everyone else eats (except popcorn). Why is this considered a good idea?

Yeah that's kind of a sucky thing, one of the great things about the movie theatres is the smell, and 99% of the time all movie theatres smell the same, so no matter where you are you can relate when you're at the movies.
