I saw this earlier today. Awful news. Just yesterday, a thread here had me thinking about several murders of Muslim gas station attendants near where I lived, in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. My heart goes out to these people and their family and friends.

Also, I feel we need to wake up as a society and face up to the deeply ingrained hatred and intolerance that runs so deep in some people, to understand what causes it and perpetuates it, and do whatever we can to stop it.

To top off the senselessness, it appears that a parking place might have factored into it.

Police said "an ongoing neighbor dispute over parking" may have been a factor in the shootings Tuesday evening.

It doesn't look like he just picked three random Muslims to kill. They had met before the shooting and he was fed up for some reason. That doesn't excuse his actions, but a lot of people directly assume he got up that morning and thought to himself "I'm killing myself some Muslims today".

I think it makes it even more senseless. To kill someone over parking spaces is senseless in itself. Religion might have been secondary to the murder even if the guy had a problem with their religion. There still isn't enough information to know what his motivation was.
