I was watching Throne Of Blood and i'm wondering how they done the arrows shooting Toshiro Mifune's character? Especially the Kneck shot at the end.

I think the special effects are pretty amazing considering it was made in 1957. To me it looks more realistic than the majority of pew! pew! arrows in movies we get today CGI or otherwise.
 
They shot real arrows at Mifune, except for bamboo ones that hit him.

old school special effects ingenuity and creativity will always beat out CGI for me.
 
You can see genuine fear on Mifune's face in some of that sequence. As well as his reactions timing up perfectly with the action. That's one of the best arguments for practical effects.

Of course, you need your expert archers to be on their game. Even if you do play some tricks with focus to make the arrows look closer than they actually are.
