Q: Speaking of things you've done that are now being done a different way: Are you interested to see what Chris Nolan and Heath Ledger do with the Joker (in the upcoming Batman sequel The Dark Knight)?

A: You know, these things are like folk tales. Everybody has their version — which is good. I think that's what these things require and deserve. There's a reason why they stay around.

Q: Did you think 16 years later people would still be making new Batman movies? After a certain point, don't you want to claim the definitive one and tell everyone else to go away?

A: No! Look it: The franchise world is a lot bigger than us puny humans. [Laughs]

Burton's still the man. I don't care what anybody says. I want him to do another batman some day, a proper sequel to his films.

And he's right, beyond the typical individualistic artistic expression stuff, batman's really such a strong story that it can be come in many different forms and still be good.

I was xpecting Burton fans would wanna hang him for that comment! lol

they won't. they know deep down burton captured the essence of batman better than anyone besides bruce timm back in the good old days. That's why I'm not too scared of Jiggsaw joker. There's more to batman than even what the comics contain.

You could say that about most superheroes after they've proved themselves by surviving for 20 years or more.

Well I liked Burtons deffo over Shumacher til I saw Nolans and now Im excited to see what he will do with Joker. It'll be huge IMO but nothings gonna compare with how The Simpsons movie is gonna do in a couple of months!

good call.

I love Linda carter for instance but her version of WW seriously was only good for her time.

That's pretty cool how the heros evolve over time like that. They're progressive heros.

I hate Burton (not becaus eof Batman, but for all his films in general), but he finally said it, and someone had to. There is no fixed way to handle a franchise. Everyone complains about how unoriginal Hollywood, but no on ever mentions plays or operas. They've been recycling the same ideas for the last 2,000 years.

The stories are bigger than the people who tell them. That's why 10 different people can tell the same story, and they can all come out completely different films, and really good, too.

We should not treat old scripts and classic characters like they are sacred and cannot be touched. Even the bible has been adapted into various different films.

I liked Burtons Batman for its time but all his other movies could easily be the same movie for me. They all have the same gothic look which is repeatitive.

Burtons Batman had their time, just as Donner's Superman did. It's time to embrace and move on.

I think we Burtonites would really be better served by listening to his words.

Oh, mighty Burton! :oldrazz:

He's absolutely right, btw. Batman's much bigger than anyone's personal preferences. I'm trying to chill out and remember that these days.

"Two bloody questions?" I remmeber.

Now it's more "Two bloody threads for two bloody questions?"

Burton butched Planet of the Apes..he get's no love from me because he won't even make a sequel to explain the odd ending he left us with. :cmad:

It's best he leaves that universe alone forever.

Now, Beetlejuice 2 on the other hand...
